It is like going for a second helping of dessert. This weekend the men are going to treat themselves twice. It is called ReTreat. As His children, we will WALK IN LIGHT (Ephesians 5:8 14). This will enable us to: Produce good fruit. We will be generous to each other while doing right, and holding up God s truth, 5:9. We will discern what pleases the Lord, 5:10. This will enable us to: Wisely walk the talk, as revealed by God s Word, instead of recklessly hurting each other, 5:15. Make the best use of the limited time we will be together, instead of squandering our time for evil, 5:16. Understand the will of the Lord, rather than ranting foolishness, 5:17. And as Christ s Holy Warriors we will MARCH IN STEP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (Ephesians 5:18 20). This will enable us to: Be filled with the Spirit, instead of being part of a drunken party, 5:18. Praise God by addressing each other with songs that originate from melodious hearts, 5:19. Thank God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, every moment and for everything, 5:20. Father God, thank you for your light that helps us to walk a careful & holy walk in the limited time we have in this world.

Why was that change difficult? Was it the unknown? Is it a lack of trust within ourselves to be able to handle change? No matter the reason there are often times where the fear of change prevents many from improving themselves. We should not be wary of accepting changes that could benefit us. There should be some confidence in ourselves when change is inevitable. We should trust ourselves to handle any situation because God will never put us through more than we can handle. Isaiah 41:10 says, Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. I am always in deep thought about where I am and what changes need to be made moving forward. I do not want to change things that have helped with successes, but as time goes on I have become more open to making necessary changes that will help me grow in my faith. What changes do we need to implement to grow in our faith? Do we need to spend more time reading God s Word? Do we need to invest more time in a ministry? No matter the area of focus, change can be good if it is applied appropriately. Let us not be afraid of change. Let us grow in our faith every day.

As one of a large family, when we get together for special occasions, needless to say, we are a crowd, but we love being together as a family and if some can t or don t come they are very much missed. It is the same for us as Christians. We are a part of God s large family so don t we need the same connection with Jesus when we gather to worship on Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and for Bible study on Wednesday night. Do we love being together and hearing the Word just as the crowds did who followed Jesus when he walked on earth? Isn t it just as important today as it was then? If we forsake the gathering with the family of Saints, do we forsake Jesus who sits and waits for us to come? Do we think that Jesus does not miss us? Do we leave Jesus to sit in the pew alone? Why do we have so many empty pews? Are other things more important? Jesus knows and keeps watch over and blesses those who have good reasons for not coming but for some Jesus still sits and waits patiently but the pew remains empty.

7 News, Notes & Announcements OCTOBER FELLOWSHIP MEAL To ensure plenty of food, plus variety, the following recommendations have been suggested for our next Fellowship Meal on October 7th: A-F Fruits, vegetables, salads G-L Cookies, desserts M-Q Entrees, meat/protein R-Z Soups, sides COMMUNITY COAT DRIVE Accepting donations of new or gently used winter coats, hats and gloves. Place all items in the marked bin located in the foyer. Items should be clean and ready to wear. All sizes accepted. WOULD YOU LIKE A VISIT? The elders and Neville are stepping up their efforts to visit the members of Summit. The visits are very informal; they can be in your home or at the building. If you d like to be scheduled for a visit, please let Donna Painter know. WANTED: BULLETIN DEVOTIONALS We are looking for more men of the congregation to write devotionals for the bulletin. Please the office if you are interested in contributing articles (nkychurch@gmail.com). L2L 2019 BIBLE BOWL: EXODUS THE WAY OUT Participants will continue studying the book of Exodus on Wednesday evenings in the 3rd-5th grade classroom. Mark your calendars for the afternoon of Sunday, October 28th to join us for an afternoon of Bible Bowl Practice, review and games. If you re interested in helping, there s still plenty of options to get involved. Please see Renuka for a list of available opportunities. SUMMIT FAMILY MAILBOX The mailbox is set up in the foyer. If you wish to send a greeting card to someone in the congregation, place the card in the mailbox and raise the flag. Postage is not necessary. It will be delivered by the young ladies in the 3rd-5th grade class between Bible class and worship every Sunday morning.
