Whatever is past is past. The Risen Jesus invites us to live with Him and with one another in hope and joy every day of our lives. May God bless all those who take such an active and loving part in our parish community! parish families or priests have now pledged $71,599.00, more than 68% of our goal of $104, for the 2018 Sharing God s Blessings Annual Appeal. I am asking for a several-month pledge if you are able, or at least a one-time gift to help us reach our goal, which supports so many critical areas in our archdiocese and our parish. Once we go over goal, the parish benefits even more! Please fill out a commitment form located in the church or rectory this week. Arnhols, Pastor Reflection on Today s Readings From an Easter homily by St. Melito of Sardis: For the sake of suffering humanity, Christ came down from heaven to earth, clothed Himself in that humanity in the Virgin s womb, and was born a man. Having a body capable of suffering, He took the pain of fallen man upon Himself; He triumphed over the diseases of soul and body that were its cause, and by His Spirit...He dealt man s destroyer, death, a fatal blow. He was led forth like a lamb; He was slaughtered like a sheep. He ransomed us from our servitude to the world, as He had ransomed Israel from the land of Egypt; He freed us from our slavery to the devil, as He had freed Israel from the hand of Pharaoh. He sealed our souls with His Own Spirit, and the members of our body with His Own Blood. He is the One Who covered death with shame and cast the devil into mourning, as Moses cast Pharaoh into mourning. He is the One Who smote sin and robbed iniquity of offspring, as Moses robbed the Egyptians of their offspring. He is the One Who brought us out of slavery into freedom, out of darkness into light, out of death into life, out of tyranny into an eternal kingdom; Who made us a new priesthood, a people chosen to be His Own forever. In Abel He was slain, in Isaac bound, in Jacob exiled, in Joseph sold, in Moses exposed to die. He was sacrificed in the Passover lamb, persecuted in David, dishonored in the prophets. It is He Who was made man of the Virgin, He Who was hung on the tree; it is He Who was buried in the earth, raised from the dead and taken up to the heights of heaven...on the tree no bone of His was broken; in the earth His Body knew no decay. He is the One Who rose from the dead, and Who raised the human race from the depths of the tomb. Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure! Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. - Colossians 3: 2 On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, Who died and rose for us. We celebrate and sing Alleluia! Holy Hour and Benediction - First Friday of every month at 8pm, upper church, in English; Last Thursday of every month at 8:00pm, upper church, in Spanish. Rosary - Monday through Saturday 8:30am, upper church. Sacraments Penance - Monday-Friday: 7:00pm-7:20pm. Saturday: 1:00pm -2:00pm and immediately following the 5:30pm Mass upon request, or by appointment with a priest at any time. Baptisms are normally held the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:30pm.* Instructions for parents are normally held the 1st Sunday of each month at 1:30pm in the basement of the Parish Life Center. These instructions are required of parents having their first child Baptized. All parents must be registered parishioners and present child s birth certificate at the time of arranging for the baptism. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, at least sixteen years of age, who have received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and, if married, the Sacrament of Matrimony. The 31st Annual Liturgy for Parents The 31st Annual Liturgy for Parents whose child has died will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 7:30pm at Notre Dame RC Church, 359 Central Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ. All parents who have suffered the death of a child of any age are invited to attend with their families and friends. The Mass includes a personal witness and the reading of each child s name.
