5 CHURCH FAMILY I wish to express my gratefulness to the entire congregation. Seven years ago, January 13, I was blessed with a new heart. This entire church supported us with prayers, food, cards and visits. I will never forget the Love of God that came through to me during those days after my new life began. Blessings upon you all. Cheryl Luttrull Ryan Ideas for Including Being a Parent of a Child with Special Needs "What I want you to know about being a parent of a child with special needs is that they have beautiful things to offer you and the rest of the world. It can be exhausting advocating for my child and educating others on their gifts and needs everywhere we go, not just school, but church, in the community, and even with our friends. It s hard for others not to make assumptions when they see my child on the outside. These assumptions can harm my child and make them feel less than. But it brings tears to my eyes when others welcome and enjoy my child in even the smallest ways because I love my child and hope you enjoy them too." At CWC, we strive to empower and be empowered by our brothers and sisters with special needs. 6 OPPORTUNITIES LEARN ABOUT CHILD DEDICATION 12NOON Are you interested in dedicating your child? Would you like to learn more about this tradition? Attend an informational meeting in SPLASH at 12noon TODAY. ELEVATE, SESSION 4 JAN 10AM GREAT ROOM Most of us enter the new year aiming to cultivate good financial habits, but don't have clear knowledge of how to do it. On Saturday, January 26 at 10 AM, Ryan Jones (a financial planner in Marion) will offer a framework for achieving short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, along with tools that will help propel you to success. MEMBERSHIP CLASS - STARTING NEXT SUNDAY! Membership at College Wesleyan Church is another doorway into the discipleship process of the church. Through membership we take a step toward living as stewards of a body that is much older, larger, and more diverse than any one of us. If you aren t a member, we would welcome you to explore this option. If you would like more information about becoming a member at CWC, you are invited to take part in Membership Class, 10:45am on Sunday mornings, January 27 - February 24, You can register for the class by filling out a Connect Card. DOCUMENTARY FEATURING KINWELL ACADEMY "Last Year at the Crossing," a documentary about four at-risk Grant County teens and the school administrator trying to help them overcome obstacles to earn their high school diplomas, will be shown at Indiana Wesleyan University s Globe Theatre at 7:00 pm on January 28, The heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful film features Roger Younce who administrates Kinwell Academy (formerly The Crossing), a CWC ministry partner organization. Event is free and open to the public. Teen and adult audiences recommended.
7 BRAIN KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS The Brain Kitchen is looking for volunteers to help with their after school ministry program from 2:10-5:30 on Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to partner with 4th grade students to help them with homework, play games with them, do movement activities, or teach them how to cook. If this is something you are interested in please gmail.com. WONDERSPACE WonderSpace is preparing now for a series of play previews beginning this month through May, in which we will bring indoor play to Grant County. Once a month, WonderSpace will bring pop up play to a select group in Grant County. As WonderSpace prepares for these previews, we are inviting anyone who would like to help disciple families in healthy, exciting, engaging, and playful interaction, to contact us. We need 5 people at each preview to help us welcome guests, check them in and out safely, build relationships with the guests who attend from the community, and facilitate play for families who may not know how to approach the equipment. If you would enjoy exploring what discipleship through play looks like, please join our WonderSpace volunteer team, one Saturday each month between January - May. We are excited to see how play affects our community and draws people toward right relationships with others and with God. Contact: stephanie.freemyer@collegewes.com ALLIES FOR CIRCLES OF GRANT COUNTY Circles of Grant County, one of our Grant County partners, is recruiting Allies. An Ally is an individual, couple or family that is willing to share life with a family that is working to overcome poverty. Being an Ally means things such as sharing meals, sharing goals, connecting people to helpful resources, encouraging one another along the way. Will you consider becoming an intentional friend to a family that is motivated to work toward the hope they hold for their future? Training starts 1/22 at New Life Community Church from 6-8 pm. Meal and friendships included! For more info contact Andrew Sprock at circlesofgc@gmail.com.

11 OUR MISSION Making More & Better Disciples We are blessed to be adjacent to the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University and consider it a gift to be part of raising up students for leadership in the world. We are excited by the numbers of students from both IWU and Taylor University who worship with us each Sunday, who serve in ministry with us and are part of Spiritual Formation groups. As a sending church, our Ministry Development Program (MDP) continues to equip and send out leaders into youth ministry, denominational headquarters, church revitalization and other ministry areas. Transforming the Community With more than 300 commissioned shepherds, we are committed to influencing our neighborhoods, workplaces, and homes with the transforming power of Jesus Christ. We seek to develop strong and healthy families which aid in the revitalization of our community. Resourcing the Church In building partnerships with other churches, we have opportunity to influence, serve, and lead beyond our own congregation. These partnerships inspire and produce events, curriculum, and services that promote a nurturing ministry and revitalization of smaller local churches. 12 SERMON NOTES Build Up One Another Matthew 9:18-26 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another Don t grumble against each other or you will be judged, for the Judge is standing at the door Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing Let us hold unswervingly to the hope that we profess and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Do not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another, and all the more as we see the (last) Day approaching.
