Cardinal Sean O Malley led the celebration. God Bless All Of Our Catechists! O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We life them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their Hopes and needs May we be attentive to the presence Of your Word in them, A Word that lifts up and affirms, Calls forth and challenges, Is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family Will always be blessed with those who Have responded to the call to share In Christ s prophetic mission as catechists. 4 SOCIAL JUSTICE The Unites States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) states in their writings: Communities of Salt and Light: Reflections on the Social Mission of the Parish: One of the most encouraging The parish is where the Church lives. Parishes are the place where God's people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church's life. signs of the gospel at work in our midst is the vitality and quality of social justice ministries in our parishes. Across the country, countless local communities of faith are serving those in need, working for justice, and sharing our social teaching as never before. Millions of parishioners are applying the gospel and church teaching in their own families, work, and communities. More and more, the social justice dimensions of our faith are moving from the fringes of parishes to become an integral part of local Catholic life. We welcome and applaud this growing recognition of and action on the social mission of the parish. Reading these words from the U.S. Bishop s certainly supports our efforts and fills us with pride for our Social Justice Corner. As we have said, we will be highlighting various efforts throughout the year some local, some wider community, some global. We have completed our drive for Cradles to Crayons and are grateful to everyone who donated to the Ready for School drive. Your generosity ensured many of the 68,000 children served by Cradles to Crayons will have new school supplies, underwear, socks, and/or a back-to-school outfit to go to school ready to learn and feeling equal to other students. Sometimes words don t convey the true sentiment but THANK YOU! for your generosity of heart and gifts. The first weekend of every month is our Maintenance and Repair Collection. IF we are called to be church to others, if we want to show ourselves with pride and be welcoming and supportive to those around us, if we want people to know that something great happens at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in St. Ann Church we need to ensure that our prayer space, that our worship space, that our gathering space, and our property is well tended. We might not always think about that as a justice issue, but it is and your donation to that monthly collection contributes to the wellbeing of our parish and signals are commitment to be church to one another. During the month of September we have heard about our parish through reports and speakers from the Finance Committee. The financial health of our parish is in our hands. MUSIC MINISTRY AT ST. MARY S! - JOE SCOLASTICO/ DIRECTOR Our Music Ministry at St. Mary's is a diverse one, offering a variety of ensembles and styles of music to lift the congregation's voices and minds to God. Music reading and music experience is not required for any of the groups, but is helpful. No audition is required. If you have any questions, please music director, Joseph Scolastico at music@stmaryhull.com or see him following the Masses. Adult Choir Our adult choir sings a wide variety of sacred and liturgical music and leads the congregation in singing at most of the Sunday 9:00 AM Masses year round as well as other special events such as Holy Week and Lessons and Carols. We rehearse weekly from September until late spring Thursday nights at 7:00 PM and at 8:15 AM on Sunday. We are always looking for new members, especially men. There may also be opportunities for instrumentalists to accompany the choir. Bell Choir Our Bell Choir accompanies the choir and congregation and plays solo pieces usually once a month at the 9:00 Mass and at other special events. Mondays at 7:30 PM in the church. Children's Choir Our Children's Choir sings at special liturgies such as Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday and at other special events such as Lessons and Carols. Our goal is to have them sing more frequently. We rehearse immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass. Grade school to middle school children are most welcome to join our children's choir. 5 ST. MARY S AT ENDLESS SUMMER Dear Ministry leaders and Parish Staff, What a great turn out for the Endless Summer ministry awareness and information table. Thank you for all your efforts in making our first hello to the community at Hull's Endless Summer 2016 a great success. Please extend our thanks to all members of your ministry who volunteered their time and talent with preparation and on Saturday. It is evident that God has blessed our parish with many special people who are willing to share the joy that our ministries have added to their lives. Some highlights from the day: Over 200 Endless Summer attendees received a bottle of Holy Water and a prayer card Over 150 Jesus Prayer bracelets and bubbles were given to children Many "Catch the Faith" fish were colored by children Over 20 special intentions were written on our prayer list to be prayed for at Mass Over 100 raffle tickets were filled out for our "Lord, Hear Our Prayer" prayer basket (the lucky winner was from Hanson, MA) Many conversations took place regarding questions about Faith Formation and we even may have a few new Rel Ed students, a teacher and an RCIA candidate! All the days volunteers (Lori Magner, Harry Diemer, Pat Downing, Deacon Jim, Claire Theriault, Denise Comeau and Tina Delguidice) felt we prayerfully touched many lives with smiles and kindness on Saturday CONFIRMANDI - CONGRATULATIONS! 6 BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP St. Paul s, Hingham Our pastoral staff understands the importance of the support that is extended after the Funeral Rite and we believe that faith and prayer are foundational for the grieving process. Inspired by the healing ministry of Jesus, Saint Paul s ministry to the bereaved is committed to providing spiritual support and comfort to all who mourn the loss of a loved one through death. The reality of a loved one s death can lead us to an awareness of our need for God and others. Participation in a Bereavement Support Group provides an opportunity for grieving in an emotionally and spiritually nurturing environment. Our New Day Bereavement Support Group OPEN HOUSE will be held on September 27th at 7:00 PM. The group will begin meeting on ten alternating Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30 PM on October 11th, 2016 and concluding by February 28th, 2017 in the Rectory. Elizabeth A.
