When storm clouds sweep my family s skies, let me light hope in my husband s eyes. Help me be gentle and kind during the tedious hours, that my offspring may blossom like buds into flowers; then when their stars blink out and wild winds blow, let me show my children the way they should go. When crisis comes to our home and hope seems lost, give me the strength, Lord, to guide the tempesttossed. Please, God, help me to live so close to Thee, that a lighthouse each day to my family I ll be. It was a Rally Day program at the church and a little girl was to recite the Scripture she had memorized for the occasion. When she got in front of the crowd, the sight of hundreds of eyes peering at her caused her to forget her memory work. Every line that she had so carefully rehearsed faded from her mind and she stood there unable to utter a single word. In the front row, her mother was almost as frantic as the little girl. The mother gestured, moved her lips, trying to form the words for the girl, but it did no good. Finally, the mother, in desperation, whispered the opening phrase of the memorized Scripture: I am the light of the world. Immediately, the child s face lit up and a smile appeared on it as she said with supreme confidence: My mother is the light of the world! Of course, everybody smiled and some laughed out loud. Then they soberly reflected that the girl, in some ways, was not far from wrong. For the mother is the light of the child s world. -Pastor Chuck

2 Meet Zebra Barker Zebra was born in Chambersburg and lived here until she was in the second grade. She then moved to Huntington Co. with her mother, when her parents were divorced. Her father came from Indiana & was a truckdriver. Her mother was raised in Mont Alto & was a nurse. She retired from Menno Haven/Penn Hall. Her parents are deceased. While living in Huntington Co., she rode the church bus 3 hours, one way, to go to church; boarding the bus at 6:00 am. She attended a wide variety of churches, including Emmanuel Bible Church, Mormon, Baptist, Pentecostal, & Church of God. She began attending Air Hill about four years ago, when she began dating Joe Ehrhart. Zebra earned her GED from Waynesboro High School. She was a customer service representative for trucking companies for 10 years and a part time caregiver for about two years. She is currently unemployed. Zebra has a daughter and 2 sons. She has 7 living grandchildren and 1 deceased grandson. A 7 year old granddaughter, Rhyann, occasionally comes along with her to church. She also has a 12 year old "Paw Child", or beagle, named "Kokoa"; affectionately also known as "Cocoa Bear", or "Bobo", when in trouble. Zebra helped at Air Hill's VBS last summer & was instrumental in securing all that bamboo to create the forest effect for the panda bears. She and Joe attended the small group study on "Experiencing God" and really enjoyed getting to know a few other couples involved in the small group with them, and they would desire to do more small group type activities. Zebra's hobby is sketching, and many of us enjoyed her hand drawn Christmas card in Submitted by, Lois Denlinger

Dear Family and Friends, Praise the Lord, He is at work here at SYME (School of I will spend more time with the students outside of work. Youth Ministries in English). The past couple of weeks have been full of excitement in getting to know our students, trials and growth. This is a very difficult time for our students especially those who have lower English levels. It is very hard to hear and speak only English five days a week. As staff, we have the challenge of trying to communicate with them and help them learn how to communicate, as well as, teaching them truths from the Word of God and encouraging them spiritually. Along with these things, two of our staff members have lost loved ones. Despite the challenges and trials that have come these past few weeks, there is also joy. We have what we call family time three mornings a week. During this time the girls and guys meet separately. We share what God has been teaching us through His Word that day in quiet time and we pray and sing together. These are my favorite times of the week. God is helping us to be transparent with each other and be honest when we are having rough days or need encouragement. We have been able to pray more specifically with one another and encourage each other more. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we are learning and growing through the Word of God here at SYME! Sincerely, Karina Thrush CONGRATULATIONS TO FAYE GARDNER Dear Church Family, A few months ago, the US News and World Report once again voted the profession of nursing to be the most trusted profession in our country marks the 13 th year in a row that nursing has held this distinction. I m so incredibly humbled by the opportunity I ve had to be a part of this most trusted profession for nearly 32 years. On Saturday, May 9, 2015, I will be graduating from the Old Dominion University with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice in their Nurse Executive program. While I m so incredibly thankful for this opportunity, I have many of you to recognize for your care and support of my journey through this program. I would like to thank Ruth Lehman who is my Shepherd and has shown such care for me during this time. I have appreciated her checking in with me to see how things are going. It was such comfort to know that Ruth was praying for me and walking this journey with me. I want to recognize Sandy Bender who is as close to me as a sister and has been sharing such uplifting and amazing words of encouragement with me through all of this. She, together with Mickey and Tammy planned an amazing birthday party for me last year and while I was having a tough semester, they extended themselves to show Christ s love to me and honor me. I want to acknowledge the College and Career Sunday School class that I co-teach with Dwaine. When I wanted to bail out while working on my degree, Dwaine was quick to assure me that he would manage the class and he has done a fabulous job. The students in this class are an amazing group of young adults and you don t have to mine too deep to find the gold of good intentions in their hearts. They are growing and sharing their walk with the Lord and it s an incredible blessing. They were my biggest cheerleaders and always quick to encourage me. To those of you who took the time to ask how things were going thank you so much, and please know that those kind words can and do speak life. As you know, I have this husband who you can usually find around on Sundays, either greeting or opening doors, etc. While his attempts to be funny aren t always well executed, I can tell you that his smiling and friendly personality that you see on Sundays is the same personality I get to live with every day. He made an incredible amount of sacrifice for me to succeed in my studies I m telling you we ate a lot of frozen pizza, I mean A LOT and he never complained when there was simply no time to prepare a meal. We have an amazing friendship and I couldn t finish this list without recognizing the level of love and sacrifice he made for me. It tells us in Proverbs that a man s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. I m certainly thankful for the direction the Lord gave me and for the encouragement of my church family along the way. Thank you for your kindness. Faye Gardner

4 Shepherd Ministry Moment The Shepherd Ministry is a wonderful caring ministry that allows you to build a lasting relationship with your families as long as God gives them life here on this earth. Your commitment is to pray daily, be available in good times and bad, contact your family once a month either by a phone call, note, card, visit, short visit at church, or something else like; going out to lunch, going to an activity of one of their children, just being creative. Also by being a good example. A Shepherd Couple has 5 families under their care. A single Shepherd has 3 families under their care. Every summer we have a fun picnic all together with our flock families. At Christmas we enjoy a wonderful appreciation Banquet as we join with all the leadership. If you do not have a Shepherd, it is because we need more Shepherds! As God calls you to this opportunity to be a servant of love and compassion, I pray you will hear the Call and obey. 1 Thes. 5;24 says, The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it. It is only through the power of the Hoy Spirit we can truly love one another. Like Elizabeth Ann Hoke said, just a small amount of time will do it. I challenge you to fast one meal a week and pray for our church body...then expect great things. If God is calling you to be a Shepherd and you say, but I am not a member of the Air Hill Church, then I encourage you to talk to Pastor Chuck and he would love to show you the way to membership. Galatians 5:6 says, The only thing that counts if faith expressing itself through love. 5 I KNOW A MAN WHO CAN I can t take a heart that s broken and make it new again. I can t take a soul that is sin sick and make it whiter than snow. Oh! But I know a man who can. I can t walk upon the water or calm the troubled sea. I can t cause blind eyes to see or make the lame to walk again. Oh! But I know a man who can. Some call Him Saviour, the Redeemer of all men, but I call Him Jesus for He is my dearest Friend. If you feel that no one loves you, and your life is out of hand, I know a man who can help you. He is the carpenter of Galilee. I wish to give you one of my personal experiences. One spring day in May during the middle nineteen ninety s, I went spring turkey hunting in Lower Horse Valley. It was a beautiful morning and the stars and moon were very bright. I heard a turkey s gobble on the backside of the North Mountain, and this presented a problem because I had to cross the Conodoquinet Creek. I had no boots to keep my feet dry. While approaching the creek I remembered what Jesus said to Peter, you can walk on water if you have faith in me. At the creek bank I looked up at the beautiful sky and said to Jesus, I know you can help me walk on the water, and I have faith in you. I crossed the creek and positioned myself to call in the gobbler. After hunting gobblers in the spring many years, I can tell by the sound of the gobble what kind of turkey is in front of me. This was the most beautiful gobble and had to be a big turkey. The turkey was about to show himself when a logging truck came between us and scared the turkey away. Yes, I did get wet feet, and the Lord told me that this is one of my best turkeys, and he is not for you today. The Lord will help you if you really have a need. If you really have a burden, lay it at Calvary. The current term ends October The next step, in the near future, will involve the congregation in a process to be determined jointly by the Pastoral Committee and Pastor Chuck. In Sunday School, the pre-kindergartners through 5th graders are learning about Loving God's Way - How to Live in the Family of God: God's family should love one another, serve God together, speak kindly to one another, bear one another's burdens, help one another grow, and worship God together. "May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other..." I Thessalonians 3:12 Our preschoolers are learning about how Paul obeyed God and told the Good News about Jesus in the difficult times and even when others were unkind to him. Student Highlights The students who are part of the New Heights Youth Group have many skills and talents. Starting next month we will try to feature the many accomplishments of our youth. If you have an accomplishment of one of the youth that we can share in the breezes please let Jason know. It could be track time, winning a championship, making honor roll, Honor Society, or any other accomplishment. We are a church. As a church we are family, as family we want to celebrate each others achievements. So check back next month to see what our youth are up to. - Thank You To the many people who were involved in planning the Silent Auction we want to say Thanks We were able to raise about $5400 for the youth ministry and our trip to Kentucky this summer. It is never easy to fund everything we do for the youth so to everyone that gave, time, items or food thank you. A special Thank You to Sharon Warren, Susan Montano and Daryl Stoltzfus. They gave many hours to making this a success. Thanks again!
