8 PASTOR NIGELS THOUGH OF THE WEEK: First Things First 19th Nov 2016 We have been told to consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work (SC 70). This is very good advice for three reasons It s a matter of priorities. Like my Dad always said, First things first. We are told in Matthew 6:33 to seek God s kingdom first. If we have our priorities straight and put God first in all that we do then the rest of the day will be a not always great, but manageable. It s a matter of timing. When does an athlete need his carefully calculated energy boost? At the end of his race? No Before his race. So why would we ever tackle a day without tapping into God s strength first? That s why we call breakfast the most important meal of the day it gives us the energy we need. The same goes for consecrating ourselves to God first thing in the morning. It s a matter of attitude. When we consecrate ourselves to God it changes us. Our attitude becomes more Christ-like. Our spiritual and moral compass is recalibrated. We will be able to handle temptation better. We will handle people with more kindness and compassion. We will be better ambassadors for the Lord. In short, we will have a better attitude all day long. So, if you re the kind of person that needs three good reasons before you do something there they are So, every day God blesses you with another day of life, get out of bed and make consecrating yourself to Him the very first thing you do.
