Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them. Revelation 14:13 We are grateful for the friends and members of Lake of the Isles who have remembered and honored love ones with their gifts to the Endowment Fund. Grant us grace to follow your blessed saints in lives of faith and commitment, and to know the inexpressible joys you have prepared for those who love you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 3 Children s Sermon Dismissal Song Ephesians 1:15-23 After giving thanks for the faith of the Ephesians, Paul prays that they might understand the wisdom, hope, and power of God that is embodied in Jesus Christ. Reading 15 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. 20 God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. 4 P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the twentieth chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. Luke 20:27-38 The Sadducees, who do not believe in the resurrection of the dead, try to trap Jesus. They formulate the convoluted case of a serial widow who marries a succession of seven brothers. Jesus responds by teaching about God, to whom all are alive and in whom all relationships are fulfilled. Congregation, please be seated Hymn of the Day Congregation, Please remain seated. Gospel 27 Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to [Jesus] 28 and asked him a question, Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man s brother dies, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; 30 then the second 31 and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. 32 Finally the woman also died. 33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her. 34 Jesus said to them, Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; 35 but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. 36 Indeed they cannot die anymore, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. 37 And the fact that the dead are raised Moses himself showed, in the story about the bush, where he speaks of the Lord as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive. Sermon Behold the Host Arrayed in White ELW #425 Verse 1 Reading from Revelation 7:9-17 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing, Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen. Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from? I said to him, Sir, you are the one that knows. Then he said to me, These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, 4

5 and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Offertory Prayer A: Merciful God, as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills were gathered together to become one bread, so let your church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom, for yours is the glory through Jesus Christ, now and forever. Meal We lift our hearts with praise and thanksgiving as the table is set, and we receive the bread and wine the humble meal through which we are fed by the presence of Jesus the Christ and united as the body of Christ in the world. For intinction dip the bread into the brown cup with the wine (dark) or grape juice (light) as you prefer, then eat. At Lake of the Isles, we practice open communion. All who hunger for the presence of Christ in their life are welcome at this table. Post-Communion Blessing P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. MARTIN S FEST NOVEMBER 12TH PPL WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE AT LOTI - 5:00 7:30 P.M. St. Martin of Tours was known for his generosity to the poor. One cold winter night, when he was still a Roman soldier, he cut his cloak two in two to share it with a beggar at the city gate. In honor of St. Martin and his legacy, our St. Martin s Fest dinner will kick-off a winter clothes drive for PPL Project Pride for Living. Participants are encouraged to share new and gently used mittens, gloves and hats, as well as new or gently used and cleaned winter jackets. The St. Martin s Fest dinner is sponsored by the local Thrivent Action Team. 11

12 This is a family event for both adults and children. The meal, a German Farmer s dinner prepared by Don Holzschuh, will consist of roast beef and gravy, spaetzel, brussels sprouts and dessert, as well as beer and soft pretzels. The evening will culminate in a lantern procession with St. Martin riding a horse. $15 per person / $30 per family. Please call the church office to make reservations. COLLEGE CARE PACKAGES PARENTS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS-- WE NEED YOUR HELP The Sunday School children and their families will be preparing care packages for our LOTI college age students once again this year. The Care Packages will contain hand-made cards from our Sunday School kids, a letter of encouragement from Pastor Haug, healthy snacks and other fun items. The packages will be mailed early in December just before finals. Parents, if you would like a care package to be sent to your college-age child, please send an to Diane LaMere, Children s Ministry Director (dlamere.loti@yahoo.com) with your child's mailing address no later than Wednesday, November 16.
