Collect For Pentecost 10 O God, the Protector of all who trust in You, without whom nothing is strong and nothing is holy, increase and multiply Your mercy on us that with You as our Ruler and Guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit; one God, now and forever. 3 as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Holy Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is? 14 And they said, Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am? 16 Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar- 3 Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. Holy Communion It is the custom of Concordia to offer Holy Communion in most of our worship services. If you are a Baptized and Confirmed member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregation you are welcome to partake. If you are not an LCMS member, we ask that you refrain from partaking until you have visited with our pastor. We believe what the Bible says about Communion to be correct and true, namely that we receive with the bread and wine the very body and blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, the strengthening of our faith, and the assurance of life eternal. We also believe that this sacrament should only be received by those who share in this Biblical belief. Distribution of Communion Distribution of the wine is by common or individual cup. The center cups of the individual tray contain grape juice for those who for medical reasons cannot have the wine. Those desiring a blessing from the pastor, but not communing, are asked please place 2 fingers over their lips to alert the servers of their desire.
