10 Rev. Jan Edmiston Co-Moderator of the 222 nd General Assembly (2016) Jan Edmiston is Co-Moderator of the 222 nd General Assembly of the PC(USA) along with her friend and colleague the Rev. Denise Anderson of Maryland. Jan also serves as the Associate Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Chicago. Prior to serving at the Mid- Council level, she was a pastor for five years in Albany Presbytery and for 22 years in National Capital Presbytery. Jan has written the blog A Church for Starving Artists ( for over 11 years. She is a national speaker and member of RevGalBlogPals, and her special interests are culture shifts and being a different kind of church in the 21 st Century. She is a lifelong Presbyterian. Jan is a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and her family includes her husband the Rev. Fred Lyon who is Pastor of Flossmoor Community Church in Flossmoor, Illinois and their young adult children who live on the East Coast. Ruling Elder Tony De La Rosa Interim Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Ruling Elder Luis Antonio (Tony) De La Rosa has served since December 1, 2015, as the interim executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Prior to accepting his current call, De La Rosa, a lifelong Presbyterian, most recently served as a commissioned ruling elder and interim lay pastor of Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Washington. From 2010 to 2013, De La Rosa was the interim executive presbyter of the Presbytery of New York City. He and his husband, Michael P. Bendgen, were married in June 2015 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, California, where De La Rosa is a member and its former Clerk of Session. He received Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity and Juris Doctor degrees from Yale University. PRAYERS AND PRAISE Notify the church office or office@fpcsantafe.org to add a name to our prayer list. We pray for Nancy Ruoff hospitalized this week with weakness in her legs. The Ecumenical Committee of the Downtown Churches presents the annual Pastors Panel at the Church of the Holy Faith in Palen Hall on Thursday, January 28, at 6:30PM. What does it really mean to be One Nation Under God? Please plan to attend the Annual All Church Retreat on Saturday morning, February 18, from 8:00AM until 12:30PM. The retreat will be led this year by Jane Knight who is a spiritual director and a potter. MISSION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE HELP! Our time at the shelter is coming. We need workers in the service sector of Shelter Night on Sunday, January 22, and Monday,January 23! Please check the sign up book in the lobby. We re also extending our 150 th festivities in January to Pete s Place, 2801 Cerrillos Road. The evening of January 25, as part of Shelter Week, we ve planned a 150 th Birthday Party at Pete s Place. After the nutritious dinner we are cooking for the guests, we ll serve birthday cake and ice cream. To make it a true birthday party, the 150 th Task Force is asking for your donation of new clothing items for Pete s guests that evening. Donated items of new, warm long-sleeved women s pullover shirts in sizes medium and large, men s and women s socks, gloves, and knitted caps can be placed in the large birthday box located in the church lobby. Please be generous with your donations. Pete s guests are in need of warm clothing during Santa Fe s cold winter weather. Meet and Pray for Your Mission Co-Workers David Cortes-Fuentes and Josey Saez Acevedo Cuba David teaches at the Theological Seminary in Matanzas, while Josey assists the Cuban church in Christian education efforts. They developed an appreciation for the country through Cuban friends and mentors in the years prior to their mission appointment. David and Josey sense a call to be a part of a new sense of hope that s emerging in the Cuban church and society. Earth Care Tidbit of the Week: "In the USA we have elected a climate change denier who doesn't believe that climate change matters. This new political reality requires people of faith to say that God still calls us to care for creation in every way, to bring science and faith together." ~ Rev.
