3 AUBURN, MASSACHUSETTS Dear People of Saint Joseph Parish, St. Joseph Parish provides support to the missions two times each year. We support the missions on Mission Sunday in October and we support the missions as part of the Mission Cooperative Program. Next weekend we will support the Mission Cooperative Program as we receive a guest who will celebrate mass with us and preach at all masses. He is part of the Love and Care Mission who has been assigned to us to bring awareness to our parish of the work this organization does in the missions. Next weekend we will not take the second collection for the Holy Father. That collection is postponed to July 15. We will take the second collection next weekend in support of the missions. All Catholics are called to participate in the mission of the Church summarized by Jesus mandate Go out and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. That mandate is given to us by virtue of our own baptism. Some take it as a direct vocation to leave what is familiar and move to a foreign environment and proclaim the Gospel in a new place. Others do not move, but their support of the missions is no less serious. Spiritual support for the missions is critical. Missionaries depend on the prayers of faithful people to support the work they do. We pray for missionary work in our prayer at mass often in this parish. Personal prayer in support of the missions is also crucial to maintain the courage, charity, boldness, and sincerity of the missionary bands. The spirit of Saint Paul is still an inspiration to many that he drew from the prayers of the Church to proclaim the Gospel to many and the beginning of a new Church. We support the missions materially on Mission Sunday and through the Mission Cooperative Program. Missionaries know that people resist hearing the Good News of Jesus and God s people when they are hungry, thirsty, sick, or in crisis. Many missionaries are experts in proclaiming the Gospel and are also experts in agriculture, organization of people, medicine, and engineering. Once people have reached the point of relative calm, only then can they afford the luxury of bringing their hearts to prayer and listening to the Gospel. Financial support helps to make good things happen in communities faced with crisis after crisis under the direction of the missionary who brings the Gospel to build the spirit. Please be generous next weekend in the second collection. Support the Church s Missions and bring Christ to people who will find great love in Him. Sincerely, Fr. Paul Bomba Listen to Your Children This summer, when your children are out of school and on different schedules, meeting new people and going to new places, make sure that you talk to them often about their experiences and the people they ve met. Listen carefully to your children. If possible, observe and get to know the other children and adults who are part of your children s summertime fun. Above all, communicate your safety concerns to your children. Make sure they know that they can come to you with any concerns they may have about the people they interact with. And if you hear of or observe behaviors that may be inappropriate, make sure to communicate your feelings to people who are in a position to intervene. Communication is key to creating and maintaining a safe environment all year round.for particular help you may call:judith Audette, Director of Office for Healing and Prevention at (508) Source: Stewardship!! For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil, according to what he has done in the body. (2 COR 5:10) We are all accountable for the gifts God has given us our time, our talent and our treasure. Each of us is accountable not only for our own life but for the lives of others as well. One day God will ask each of us what did we do with the gifts we were given. How will you respond? Envelope Change Take out your package of envelopes for June and July. Find the envelope for Peter s Pence Collection, June 24. Cross out the date and write in July 15. We will host a missionary on June 24 and the second collection on that day will be for the support of the missions. We will take up the collection for the Holy Father on July 15.

5 Progress Report Thanks to all our parishioners who have made their gift to the 2018 Partners in Charity Appeal. Saint Joseph Parish is 72% towards our goal of $60,700. That is $43,860 from 201 donors. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge, please fill out a commitment pledge envelope located in the pew or the back of the Church or Parish Center. Or visit to do it online. Partners in Charity, formerly known as the Bishop s Fund, is the Annual Appeal for the Diocese of Worcester, serving 28 charitable, educational, and pastoral ministries. Through your generous support we are able to serve thousands of families and individuals in Worcester County through outreach, formation, evangelization, and worship. Thank you! Blessings & prayers are woven into each stch. PARISH PLEASANTRIES for the month of July, 2018 may be le in the box located in the main entrance of the church near the side ramp entryway on or before Sunday, June 24. We are always happy to acknowledge Anniversaries, Birthdays & Special Achievements of our parishioners. News from Hospitality Ministry Update This ministry provides a place for families to gather and share a meal or coffee and pastries after a funeral in the lower church hall. After our meeting last week, we are confident we can begin to offer this service in the fall. We have four volunteers eager to begin, but to make this successful and not burdensome on a few, we will need more help. Responsibilities of those on the committee would include covering the tables, making the coffee and tea, arranging the pastries or helping the caterer should there be one and clean up. Please consider becoming part of this supportive and caring ministry. We will meet again on Tuesday, August 14, 1:00pm, in the lower church hall. Call Lisa at or stjoesreledaub@gmail.com, if would like to help LOVE AND CARE MISSION Next Weekend we will hear from a representative from Love and Care Mission. The second collection will help to support their efforts. Some of our prominent projects are: 1. HIV/AIDS PROGRAMS: LCM supports the HIV/ AIDS children at Bangalore/ at Tuticorin, run by the Franciscan Sisters and Gramodhaya, a not for profit organization. They serve hundreds of HIV/AIDS affected families and children. 2. ORPHAN CHILDREN PROGRAMS: support 12 orphanages in 11 dioceses. 3. FOR THE STREET CHILDREN: support 98 children in two street children projects. 4. TRIBAL CHILDREN: LCM Provides education to 85 Tribal Children in India & Africa. 5. POOR CHILDREN EDUCATION PROGRAM Provides school fees, school supplies, and dress to the school going children in 8 centers. 6. EVENING STUDY CENTERS: Provide space for students whose houses have no electricity and no space. Teachers are available to give assistance to students whose parents are uneducated. These 16 centers have proven to be highly beneficial to poor students to keep going to school. 7. DRINKING WATER PROJECTS: Provide safe drinking water to schools and villagers by digging bore wells and building water tanks. So far 6,800 are benefitted. 8. SEMINARIANS SUPPORT: LCM supports vocations in the missions by helping the seminarians for their studies. Please pray for the missions.

6 Religious Freedom Week will be celebrated in dioceses nationwide from June 22 to June 29. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of preserving the essential right of religious freedom, both now and in the future, for Catholics and all people of faith. This year s theme is Serving Others in God s Love reminding us that religious liberty allows people of faith to serve God and others freely in ministries like healthcare, adoption and foster care, education, and migration and refugee services to name a few. The significant feast days during the week (Saints Thomas More and John Fisher June 22, Saint John the Baptist June 24, and Saints Peter and Paul June 29) inspire us to follow the example of these great saints who loved God above all and remained faithful in the face of adversity. Please visit ReligiousFreedomWeek to download the Pray ReflectAct onepagers for each day on various religious liberty topics. These excellent resources are intended to inspire us to learn more about religious liberty from a Catholic perspective, help us to pray about particular issues, and provide us with tools to act on what we learn. Additional information can be found at Diocese Group Night at Worcester Bravehearts Come join with members of the Diocese of Worcester for an evening of fun and baseball on June 19! Your school, parish or agency will all be seated together (sectiondiocese of Worcester) to watch the Worcester Bravehearts as they pursue a third league championship! Contact Ryan Adams at the Worcester Bravehearts at if you have any issues. 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 15, 2018 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, On the weekend of June 24, our diocese will take up the Peter s Pence Collection. Our participation supports the charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering around the globe. By supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world. Pope Francis challenges us to look at those around us with the eyes of mercy. At a Papal Audience he said, We encounter so many weary and oppressed people today... And how is our heart? Is it merciful? And our way of thinking and acting, is it inclusive? (Jubilee Audience, Nov. 12, 2016). I invite you to reflect on how you feel moved to answer the call to mercy. In Iraq, many people still live a nightmare of war and violence. This has left many displaced, including young people in the midst of their studies. Without an educated population, it will be difficult for the country to gain stability. Thanks to support from this collection, the Archdiocese of Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, has received funding for 10 scholarships for young displaced persons. With this help, the students can complete their university education and move forward with the hope of rebuilding their country. Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized in our world. I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year. For more information about the good works that result and the response over past years, please visit the website of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops at Thank you for considering how you can respond to the call to be a Witness of Charity by your prayers, your spreading the word about this good work, and by your financial support. With every prayerful best wish, I remain, Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, S.T.D. Bishop of Worcester Because we will support the Missions next weekend we will postpone the Peter s Pence collection to July 15. The Sympathies of our Parish are extended to the Families of Theresa Hamrin and Joseph Pietrzak who recently passed away.
