P Let us confess our sin, calling for God's transforming power. Source of all life, C we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. 2 HYMN OF PRAISE SALUTATION AND RESPONSE PRAYER OF THE DAY P Gracious God, throughout the ages you transform sickness into health and death into life. Open us to the power of your presence, and make us a people ready to proclaim your promises to the whole world, through Jesus Christ, our healer and Lord. 3 4
3 FIRST LESSON: Isaiah 35:4-7a 4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you." 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then the lame shall leap like a deer, 7 and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water. A C The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM Hallelujah! Praise the LORD, O my soul! 2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 3 Put not your trust in rulers, in mortals in whom there is no help. 4 When they breathe their last, they return to earth, and in that day their thoughts perish. 5 Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help, whose hope is in the LORD their God; 6 who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; who keeps promises forever; 7 who gives justice to those who are oppressed, and food to those who hunger. The LORD sets the captive free. 8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. 9 The LORD cares for the stranger; the LORD sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. 10 The LORD shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Hallelujah! 5 SECOND LESSON: James 2:1-10 [11-13] My brothers and sisters, do you with and are convicted by the law as 10 your acts of favoritism really believe transgressors. Now if you do not you take notice of the one wearing commit adultery but if you murder, the fine clothes and say, "Have a you have become a transgressor of 12 seat here, please," while to the one the law. So speak and so act as who is poor you say, "Stand there," those who are to be judged by the 4 13 or, "Sit at my feet," have you not law of liberty. For judgment will be made distinctions among yourselves, without mercy to anyone who has and become judges with evil shown no mercy; mercy triumphs 5 14 thoughts? Listen, my beloved over judgment.] What good is it, my brothers and sisters. Has not God brothers and sisters, if you say you chosen the poor in the world to be have faith but do not have works? 15 rich in faith and to be heirs of the Can faith save you? If a brother or kingdom that he has promised to sister is naked and lacks daily food, 6 16 those who love him? But you have and one of you says to them, "Go in dishonored the poor. Is it not they who blaspheme the excellent name 8 that was invoked over you? You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, "You shall 9 love your neighbor as yourself." But if you show partiality, you commit sin 6 17 needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. A C The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, "Ephphatha," that is, "Be 35 opened." And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then Jesus ordered them to tell no one; but the more he ordered them, the more zealously they proclaimed 37 it. They were astounded beyond measure, saying, "He has done everything well; he even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak." We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen 18

It s not just a meal on Wednesday evenings; it s a time of fellowship. It s not just supper for strangers; it s an outreach. It s not just a duty ; it s a joy! Soul Food is NOT only a community meal; it s a gathering together to nourish bodies and souls. Join us! Get acquainted with someone you might not know! And help is needed with all that goes into these weekly meals. Helping hands are always welcomed, and you don t have to commit to every week; simply come when you can and help as you are able! We usually get together at 3 p.m. to start prepping ; the head cook for the week determines the menu and usually shops accordingly, but there are still ways you can help. Dishpan hands are ALWAYS in need, We serve from 5 to 6 p.m. if available, take-outs are allowed only after 6 p.m. Concentrating on healthier foods, we d like to have fewer desserts and MORE fresh fruit!! Salads and fresh vegetables are also welcomed every week. With vacations, work schedules, health issues, family needs, etc., our crew is fairly skeletal lately, and we welcome YOUR involvement! There is plenty of food, fun, fellowship, and we share prayer concerns each week. Come feed your body and your soul! Thank You!!! Thank you to all who have been donating their garden goodies to Soul Food. It is very much appreciated. Rally Day - 9:15-10:15 TODAY We will have inflatables and ice cream.
