1 THE FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY February 9 & February 10, 2019 Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer exists to: Welcome people to faith in Jesus Christ; Equip His followers with a maturing faith through Word and Sacrament; and Serve in the world as Jesus served us. Welcome. As God called the prophets and as Jesus called the disciples, the Holy Spirit has called us to this time of worship and to life in God s love always. Please introduce yourself to and Pastor Akers, and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew. Large print services and bulletins are available from the ushers. For Pastoral Care please call or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you! The Lutheran Hour can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU 1350 AM, sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Please note that the deadline for bulletin announcements is Wednesdays by noon. 3 SPEAK UP! But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. ALWAYS be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that you have 1 Peter 3:15 ENROLLMENT: We are now accepting new students. Currently we have 68 students enrolled for next school year. If you know of anyone looking for a school, please encourage them to check Redeemer out. SGO: As we begin the re-enrollment and enrollment for next school year, we remind you that once again, we are seeking any financial assistance we can through our SGO program. If you have donated before, the school thanks you, but especially our students thank you. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Mrs. Tucker in our admissions office. TRASH BAGS: Redeemer Lutheran will be selling trash bags at the end of each service beginning NEXT Saturday, February 16. The cost will still be $ Orders will be taken in the Extended care room after each service. Orders must be paid in advance. We will not have change, so you will need to pay with the exact amount or write a check to RLS. STEWARDSHIP MOMENT Luke 5:5 And Simon answered, Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Your word I will let down the nets. Peter s words show both exasperation and trust. He s tired. He tried his best and failed. But he is still ready to trust the Lord s word and act on it. Our stewardship is also a matter of trusting the Lord s word and acting on it. NYG NEWS SCRIP Fundraising- Need to order SCRIP cards? Orders can now be placed with proceeds benefitting our youth trip this summer! Specify when ordering that you would like your funds donated to the NYG trip, or to a specific youth that is going. Guest Director Rebecca Holt of Indianapolis will be leading handbell choirs from six area churches. The choirs will spend the day practicing as a mass choir in preparation for the evening Vesper Service. The choirs range from beginning to advanced ringers, our church has ringers participating in Group I and Group II. Ms. Holt is the handbell director for both St. Lukes United Methodist of Indianapolis and Second Presbyterian. Please come join us at 5:30 PM for the Vesper Service where we will ring to the Glory of God. HARTMAN MEMORIAL EUCHRE CARD PARTY - MARCH 16, PM Save the date March 16 th for the Hartman Memorial Euchre Card Party. See you in the Mission Hall from 2-4 PM to raise money for Worship Anew. Last year we raised $ and had almost thirty card players present. We hope to see you this year. LOOKING AHEAD TO LENT On Wednesday, March 6, we begin the Season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service. Two services will be held on Ash Wednesday, 12 noon and 7:00 PM. Both services will offer Holy Communion, and the imposition of ashes. The other remaining Lenten services will be held at 12 noon and 7:00 PM. Our theme this year is the A Lent to Remember. The key word will be remember. Each week we ll focus on something God remembers or something God causes us to remember. There s a big difference between God s remembering and our remembering. When we remember something, too often it s like one person saying, You forgot my birthday and another replying, No. I remembered your birthday. I just didn t do anything about it. When God remembers, He does something about it. God remembers and acts graciously toward us. When God causes us to remember something, He also causes us to do something. He causes us to believe. He causes us to receive, by faith, His gracious gifts. By the time this Lenten season is over, our prayer is that the power of God s Word will cause us to remember the way God remembers, with action. THE WEEKLY THEMES AND TEXTS ARE: Ash Wednesday, March 6 Remember Dust Psalm 103:13-14 Lent 2 March 13 Remember Wondrous Works Psalm 111:4 Lent 3 March 20 Remember Jesus Words Luke 22:61-62 Lent 4 March 27 Remember the Covenant Psalm 105:8 Lent 5 April 3 Remember Sins No More Jeremiah 31:34 Lent 6 April 10 Remember Steadfast Love Psalm 98:3 Maundy Thursday April 18 Remembrance of Me 1Corinthians 11:23-26 Good Friday April PM Remember Me Luke 23:39-43 Good Friday April 19 7 PM Tenebrae Service Easter April 20 & April 21 Remember Jesus Risen 2Timothy 2:8, 11
