3 FOOTNOTES The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. To have a shepherd is a good thing for a sheep; it means you ll be led, protected, encouraged, fed, and nurtured. You won t go without. The sheep are pretty easy prey in the wild; sheep don t have sharp teeth, but a lot of wild animals do. Nature is red with tooth and claw to quote Tennyson. But sheep provide a lot of good as a herd animal. They provide cosy wool to keep humans warm through the bitter winter. They provide food and sustenance to human communities when they celebrate their shared life communally. They are also animals fit for sacrifice should the divine relationship require it. Our master Jesus is often pictured in early Christian art as the Good Shepherd carrying the sheep across his shoulders. Jesus models for us the strength and safety that goes with following the good shepherd. The shepherd provides protection and a safe place for the herd to find shelter from wind and the wild. All we like sheep have gone astray, says Isaiah. And Luke tells us that Jesus is the kind of shepherd who goes to find the one lost sheep, leaving the ninetynine, so eager is he to find us. The model of Jesus inspires all of us to think about lost sheep around us, prodigals and even black sheep. To follow Jesus is to walk with straight feet toward the neighbour who s lost and to help them find the safe ground for themselves. Who are you praying for right now who needs your help to find their way out of lostness? Think about inviting them on the next Alpha course and go with them. Jesus would do that. Grace and peace go with you this week! Pastor Craig Page 1

If you have time to commit to plant and maintain the garden, we need you! Also if you can provide financial support for purchasing plants and building the garden deck please Pastor Phil: The primary purpose of the community garden is to supplement the Cooking For Others programme, where we provide meals for those in need from our community and beyond. 8 MINISTRY UPDATE OM Sponsorship Program - Adele and Clive Pedersen OM s work in India began in 1963 when the first long, overland truck arrived in the country. OM s international workers came alongside Indian national Christians in partnership to present the Good News about Jesus in a loving way to those who did not yet know the living God. In 2012, OM India became GS/OMI, a separate, autonomous church-based movement led by Indian nationals, who now partners with OM. GS/OMI s work includes church planting, discipleship and evangelism, as well as education, healthcare, economic development, justice work and training, especially amongst the Dalit peoples. Sponsor a child today. Contact Adele & Clive on adele.s.pedersen@gmail.com or mobile: Page 6
9 FINANCIALS, MEMBERSHIP AND GIVING Financial Update 2015 We had a slow start to income for TUR the first two months. We have been running significant deficits month to month for the first third of the year in fact. We have been able to sustain this based on last year s surplus. However, it is important revenue from tithes and offerings rises to a consistent $70,000 to meet our ongoing needs. It is good to see giving rising. There have been a few large one-off type expenditures which have affected month to month expenses and these should tail back shortly. By the same token we have also added to staff to better serve our community and sustain its growth. Further significant gifting beyond $70,000 p/month will be required to sustain capital expenditures too. We are also trimming general expenditures wherever possible and prudent. TUR Church Family If we all do our small, medium or large part our community will thrive. So if you are not currently on our giving team, get on it by doing two things: 1. Ask for a giving number: giving@upperroom.org.nz 2. Set up a monthly AP gift to TUR April May June July Income $50,000 $48,000 $62,000 $71,000 Expenses & Depreciation $56,000 $57,000 $81,000 $90,000 Surplus/Deficit (-$6,000) (-$9,000) (-$19,000) (-$19,000) Account Name: Upper Room Charitable Trust Account Number: Page 7 Bank: ANZ Branch: East Tamaki If any of you are currently generously giving and have an ability to increase that giving, or are in a position or have been blessed by God to make a significant contribution to general costs financially, then now not later would be the time. Remember, every little gift helps. As always we are committed to trusting our gracious heavenly father for his abundant provision.
