1 Silverdale Lutheran Church Ridgepoint Drive NW Silverdale, WA (360) Website: Pastor Bill Crabtree Pastor Jonathan Sansgaard Pastor Paula Burchill Music Minister Justin Cormier Second Sunday of Epiphany January 20 th, 2019 We have Listen ear pieces available for the hearing impaired-simply ask one of the ushers! THE GATHERING Confession and Forgiveness (Please stand as you are able) P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, who spoke light into creation, who calls us to listen and follow, who sends us to shine like stars. Let us come before God, confessing our sin with the assurance of God s grace and mercy. (Silence for reflection and self-examination) P: Holy and merciful God, C: We confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you that in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! C: Amen. 1

5 THE WORD Silverdale Lutheran Church Council Installation (11am) Children s Sermon: Kids Word (11am) - Kids approx. ages 4-8 can go and hear the Word through story, crafts & games. Please meet in back of sanctuary. Children return after sermon. First Reading Isaiah 54:4-8 4 Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more. 5 For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. 6 For the LORD has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like the wife of a man s youth when she is cast off, says your God. 7 For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you. 8 In overflowing wrath for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you, says the LORD, your Redeemer. R: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Second Reading Revelation 19:1, 6-9 1After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power to our God, 6Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready; 8 to her it has been granted to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure" for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. 9 And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are 5
6 invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said to me, "These are true words of God." R: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Musical Meditation We are Many Parts arr: Marty Haugen (SLC Choir) Gospel Acclamation R: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 2 nd Chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord Gospel John 2:1-11 1On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." 4 And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." 5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." 6 Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. 8 He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. 9 When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now." 11 Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. R: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. (Please be seated) Sermon (after a brief period of reflection, please stand for the hymn of the day) 6 Pastor Bill

8 Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Prayers of the Church P: Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayer. Sharing of the Peace P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you.
