Each year Baptist Women in Ministry encourages Baptist churches to invite a woman to preach on any Sunday in February. Our preaching month is named in honor of Martha Stearns Marshall, an eighteenth-century Separate Baptist preacher. The number of participating churches has steadily increased each year since 2007, when 54 churches participated. Last year, 217 churches celebrated God's gifting of women! Here's how your church can participate: 1) SAVE THE DATE!! Reserve ANY Sunday in February. 2) Invite a woman to preach--ask a member of your church, contact a nearby seminary or Baptist university and inquire about the availability of a student or professor, or ask someone in your community. For ideas, contact Pam Durso at pamdurso@bwim.info. 3) Download the certificate from the BWIM website, print it out, and present it to the preacher on your church's Martha Stearns Marshall Day of Preaching. 4) Order the book, this Is What a Preacher Looks Like: Sermons by Baptist Women in Ministry and present it to the preacher. 5) Incorporate the history of Martha Stearns Marshall during your worship service or use the bulletin insert provided by BWIM. 6) Sing the hymn written by Courtney Krueger, written especially for Martha Stearns Marshall Month.
2 Executive Assistant Support BWIM Donate Now Vocare 7) Please send your church name, city, state, pastor, the name of your guest preacher, and contact information to Aimee Day Yeager at All participating churches and preachers will be listed in the Spring Issue of Vocare, the BWIM newsletter. Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching is a great way for your church to stand with other churches in affirming the gifts and voices of women preachers! Blessings! Pam Durso To sign up for Vocare, Aimee Day Yeager at aimeeyeager@bwim.info. Ordination Resources Check out the BWIM website for ordination resources! We have collected orders of worship plus litanies, charges, and poems that are helpful in the planning ordination services! WHAT ARE YOU READING?: Our 2013 Monthly Conversations Will Feature Interviews with Authors For three years, a collaborative group led by Devita Parnell and Pam Durso has gathered each month for conversations about women and Baptist life. We would love to have you join in these conversations! You don't even have to be in Atlanta, because our group meets via phone conference call and/or online through live meetings. The 2013 conversations will feature interviews with authors of books of interest to Baptist women! SAVE the DATES! Below are the dates and times of the upcoming meetings in Put these dates on your calendar. We welcome any and all to attend, and we welcome you to invite your friends and colleagues. For more information about the meetings and getting connected, please Pam Durso at pamdurso@bwim.info

BWIM Blog: A Day in the Life The BWIM blog in November featured a daily posting titled "A Day in the Life." Baptist women ministers traced one day of their life and shared about the activities and ministry involvements of that day, while also telling about places in they have seen God at work in the midst of a busy ministry day. Visit the BWIM Blog to read these posts. Be inspired by the stories of these gifted women ministers! Dear Addie Ever needed someone to talk to about the search committee process and salary negotiation? Ever wondered what an experienced woman minister would say when church members spent more time talking about her fashion choices than about her sermon? Ever wished you could have an honest conversation about the challenges and loneliness of being a single minister? If you are ever in need of a little help from a "seasoned woman minister," Baptist Women in Ministry now offers you "Dear Addie." your questions to dearaddie.advice@gmail.com. "Dear Addie" is designed to provide women with encouragement and advice as they navigate ministry waters. The "Addies," who will be responding to questions, share out of their ministerial experience, but they are not certified counselors or therapists. They are seasoned ministers, volunteering their time and sharing their wisdom. The staff of Baptist Women in Ministry does not monitor the conversations and is not responsible for the accuracy or helpfulness of the responses.

The Modern Magnificat By Jennifer Harris Dault The Modern Magnificat is an attempt to chronicle the journey of calling. In its pages, you will find the stories of twenty-three Baptist women who heard God's call. These women are from a variety of backgrounds, spanning Baptist life. You will find Southern Baptists, Cooperative Baptists, American Baptists, Missionary Baptists, Alliance of Baptists, and others. There are women who are committed to being life-long Baptists. There are
6 women who find their identity in the Baptist church, but have found places of service among the Disciples of Christ, United Methodists, and Mennonites. There are women who are not sure if they will be able to remain Baptist. This book is published by Nurturing Faith, Inc., and can be ordered here. Beyond the Stained Glass Ceiling: Equipping and Encouraging Female Pastors By Christine Smith Pastor Chris Smith explores the challenges in breaking through the stained glass ceiling-and then shares the lessons learned and best practices of those women who are currently serving in solo or senior pastorates-insights that will empower not only women called to the pastorate but their male colleagues and denominational leaders who want to support them. Beyond the Stained Glass Ceiling will be available soon from Judson Press. Shattered Soul? Five Pathways to Healing the Spirit after Abuse and Trauma By Patrick Fleming,Sue Lauber-Fleming and Vicki Schmidt Work with survivors of abuse and trauma involves more than emotional, mental, and physical wounds. Experiences of abuse can block a person's capacity to pray and worship, and stunt spiritual growth. This user-friendly book reveals five pathways for healing spiritual wounds of survivors of abuse. Help survivors navigate courage, holy anger, grief, forgiveness, and transformation. Includes helpful reflection exercises at the end of every chapter. This book can be purchased here. Open Ministry Positions Positions are listed by state, city, open position, church name. BWIM collects these openings from a wide variety of sources, and the degree of openness to women ministers among the listed churches varies. In its effort to advocate, network, and connect, BWIM provides this list as a resource to those searching for ministry positions. ALABAMA Auburn-Pastor-First Baptist Church
