1 Part Two Methodist Church involvement in Union Parishes or CV s in decades Please note the dates refer either to the date of inauguration of the Parish or to the signing of the Agreement, often, but not always, these dates were the same. In some cases it has been possible to identify the year but not the exact date of either the signing or the inauguration. To indicate this a question mark has been used following the year. In the vast majority of cases existing Methodist properties, churches or parsonages, were incorporated into the newly formed local unions. Occasionally a Methodist property was seen as redundant and sold at the time of union. Proceeds from sales of such property were normally lodged in Christchurch with the Administration Division pending future decisions. Other Methodist properties have become redundant at later stages and have been sold or replaced sometimes with new shared facilities The total number of Parishes listed below is 127. The majority of these came into being in the 1970 s the decade in which Church Union at a national level looked like a possibility. Local Union or Co-operative Parishes that have no officially recognized Methodist component have not been listed below though some will have individual members who have Methodist origins. Please Note: Norman Brookes ( nebrookes@xra.co.nz) would appreciate being advised if in reading this document you note any errors or additions that need to be taken into account. It is important that the document is as factually correct as possible and regularly updated (2) ie number of Union Parishes formed in this decade.
