We were blessed with a hot, sunny day-despite the forecast of rain!! With the good weather came lots of activities and projects that were completed. Village House was treated to a "deep cleaning" of their facilities. Boys and Girls Club received 5 new raised beds that were filled with dirt (ready for planting) an outdoor classroom was mulched, and lots of weeding. At 2 Oasis houses there was a multitude of outdoor activities in the form of landscaping. Many positive comments floated that day. "I met 5 new people from Highlands Church!" "What a great way to get to know people I see at church, but don't know!" "It's so much more enjoyable doing this work together versus working alone at home!" "My husband and I are going to help out that young woman we met who is getting a Habitat house!" God is good and we thank Him for all of these opportunities to show our love to others and help to Change The Worldeven if just a little! SAMARITAN'S FEET On July 25, 2015, Highlands Church will partner with other United Methodist churches in the NW corner of AR to participate in an event called Samaritan's Feet- Shoes of Hope. This will take place at Gravette UM Church from 4-8 pm. This is a program to share hope with needy children. This is done through washing their feet and giving them new socks and athletic shoes. The people of Samaritan's Feet believe that shoes are much more than a status symbol and fashion accessories. The gift of a new pair of shoes can be a tangible foundation of hope to a child in need. The shoes and socks cost $ The goal is to give out about 250 pairs of socks and shoes on July 25th. How can you be involved? Through donations and volunteering to help at the event. Check the Gathering Area in the next few weeks for sign-up sheets. Volunteer opportunities are: registration helpers, greeters, foot washers, water changers and shoe room workers. Samaritan Feet personnel will be on hand to run the logistics of this event. This will be very organized and well run. For more information contact Kathy Dunn or go to website GRAVETTE MIDDLE SCHOOL SNACKPACKS Highlands Church has supplied weekend snack packs for approximately 25 students per week this year. This program will continue through the summer and then into next school year. These snacks are supplied with food through donations to the Power of One Fund. Thank you to those who help pack the snack packs and those who donate dollars.

2 PAGE 2 A CARING COMMUNITY OF FAITH AND FELLOWSHIP VOLUME 18 ISSUE 6 From the Pastor God used the following true story to rattle my faith. Cole was in the Middle East sitting across from a friend and colleague. His friend was a Muslim convert to Christianity and a leader in one of Iran s fastest-growing underground house church movements. Cole said, Brother, before we agree to support your plans to start an underground Bible print shop, I need to know that you understand the risk. The leaders I know in the other underground house church networks who did similar things have all gone to prison and have been tortured, and some have had to flee the country. Recently, in every case we know of, the house church leaders who ran an underground Bible printing operation were caught six to eighteen months after they started distributing the Bibles. His friend assured him that he understood the risks and that he was going to go forward with the plan whether Cole and his ministry supported him or not. The man s work became one of the most successful underground printing operations they had seen inside Iran. But just as Cole had warned him, his operation was discovered within two years and his team arrested, imprisoned and severely tortured. (The Voice of the Martyrs, April 2015, Are You Ready to Take the Risk?) Two thoughts come to my mind. First I am convicted by how much I take God s Holy Scripture for granted. And secondly, I am convicted by how little I truly sacrifice for God when it comes to making God known to others. The story of Cole s friend puts my sacrifice into a more realistic perspective. What I typically consider sacrifice is nothing more than inconvenience compared to what so many other Christians risk. I m not sure what I m to do about this right now. I just know that I find myself being challenged to do something significant and sacrificial for Jesus when it comes to sharing the good news with others. What might the Holy Spirit be saying to you? Would you pray for me in regards to this and I will pray for you. United Methodist Annual Conference-2015 From Gary E. Mueller, Resident Bishop: " A Call to Spiritual Revival is the theme for this year's Arkansas Annual Conference. Spiritual revival is at the heart of who we are as Jesus' disciples. It energizes, directs, and enables us to be fully alive in Christ. We can long for it to be a reality in our lives, but can never cause it to occur because it is the work of the Holy Spirit. Our job is to get serious about it through reading Scripture, praying, and opening ourselves so the Holy Spirit can go to work in us. The Conference Session Planning Team's mission for the 2015 Annual Conference is to plan the Conference so it inspires and equips Arkansas United Methodists to return to their local mission fields to make disciples of Jesus Christ who are so transformed they transform the world. ~ Attending from Highlands Church will be Pastor Bryan, D Ann Brumett and Andy O Neil. Conference is in Hot Springs, June CET Devotion Plan for June Christian Education Team God is good: all the time. Mike Pehosh, Another Successful Blood Drive The Hummers Blood Drive held on May 20 in conjunction with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks was, once again, successful. The CBC had a target of 25 potential donors for this Blood Drive at Highlands Church. We actually had 31 donors for this visit 24 % over the CBC goal. Thank you to all who donated,. or tried to donate, during this visit. That was an outstanding turn-out on a rainy, messy day! The next Hummers Blood Drive is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29 th from 10 3:00 in Fellowship Hall. If you gave at our May Drive you will be eligible to donate again on July 29th. Remember: 100 % of the blood product used in NW Arkansas hospitals comes from and through the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. This can truly be the gift of life for our friends and families.. and thanks, again, to all who came out for this May drive. You are making a difference

The new service would not replace an existing service, but would appeal to a segment of our population in our mission field that is under represented in our church. The Task Force members include Carmen Alessi, D Ann Brumett, Susan Craton, Luckie Fink, Terri Fontenot, Chris and Pam Henderson, and Jackie Warren. The Task Force members are continuing research via articles, books, and area church Web sites. May 17 and 24 the Task Force visited three area churches, Grace Point Church of Northwest Arkansas, Bella Vista Christian Church, and Oakley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rogers and talked to various leaders about their experiences in starting an additional service. Deadline for the July 2015 Newsletter is Saturday, June 20 at 12 noon. Send to Marilou Edwards at edwardsbva@cox.net or place in Newsletter Box in former church office. Check the church website for information on coming events. When traveling read the newsletter and listen to the Sunday service through the website - humcbv.com

It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date; Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in the Committee of the Whole on June 14, In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.

8 PAGE 8 A CARING COMMUNITY OF FAITH AND FELLOWSHIP VOLUME 18, ISSUE 3 JUNE Mine is the Month of Roses; yes, and mine The Month of Marriages! All pleasant sights And scents, the fragrance of the blossoming vine, The foliage of the valleys and the heights. Mine are the longest days, the loveliest nights; The mower's scythe makes music to my ear; I am the mother of all dear delights; I am the fairest daughter of the year. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow BY YOUR LOVE Michael Callahan, Pastor of Congregational Care (Michael can be reached by at michael@humcbv.com for comments or questions.) Rita and I want to thank everyone for the many, many expressions of love and support that we have received during these past 8 weeks while Rita had her radiation treatments. When you read this, that should all be behind us, as planned. Each and every time we received your expressions of love and support it brightened our day and gave us an additional ray of hope and encouragement to hang on to. And that is so important during trials and times like this, as many of you know very well. So I would encourage everyone that when the Holy Spirit brings to your remembrance a special friend, neighbor, loved one or someone you just met, please respond to those tugs of the Holy Spirit by contacting those people in whatever manner feeds your soul. As you well know, whenever we respond in this manner we are not only helping someone else, we are feeding our soul and growing in the knowledge of God and His heart toward His creation. I have seen this Spirit lived out in the body of Christ at Highlands Church for many years, and I think that is the heart and soul of this church. I have seen your interaction within the body. As those within the body are faced with very difficult circumstances, the body at Highlands Church goes into action, expressing the love of God in word and deed! This is Christianity! Not a philosophy. Not a theory or title. But real live people in action, sharing the love of God without reserve or respect of person. It has been said that Christ did not come to give us a theology, but to offer a relationship with Him. As we participate with Christ in the sharing of His life and love we come very close to personifying the words of that song which says, They will know we are Christians by our love. Rita and I would just like to say we know the body of believers at Highlands Church are Christians by your love! Thank you.
