May you find comfort, joy, strength and peace as you worship the Loving and Living Lord with us today. First Christian truly seeks to be a place of welcome to all! Children are welcome in worship! For those who desire childcare during worship, nursery care is available downstairs for infants through 4 year olds. Older children can be at the activity table towards the front on the right with Deb and Anna. Audio Receivers are available from an usher for the hearing impaired. Communion: As members of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we practice open communion. All believers are invited to partake. The emblems will be passed through the rows by the deacons. Please partake of the gluten free bread and grape juice as it is passed. The original title is Le Songe de Jacob. This surrealistic religious work was painted in 1966 in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France where he died in 1985 at the age of 97. Born in 1887, Chagall was a Russian Jew who moved to France in 1923, to the US in 1941, and back to France in Outreach Opportunities Hygiene & Cleaning Kits for Church World Service: There is a great need created by the hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods for Hygiene Kits and Cleaning Kit Buckets. 7 Announcements & Things of Interest SpringHouse Fall Adult Faith Formation: Faith, Sexism, Justice - Join us in the Gathering Space at 9:30 on Sunday mornings as we jump into fall with a 6 week look at Faith, Sexism, and Justice! We will be using a study published by the Lutheran Church as work toward their social justice statement...but it is NOT just for Lutherans! We need lots of varied voices to join the discussion about these important issues facing the church, and each of us, today. EVERYONE is welcome - no experience necessary! Brews and Views is back on a new date! We'll now meet on the 4th Monday of each month, starting tomorrow, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. It will be at Monster Lake brewing. Whittier PTA s first Project Whittier event is scheduled for next week on Wed Black Sheep Pizza. Dine out at Black Sheep Pizza, 2550 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN anytime on Wednesday Sept. 27th and 10% of all sales will be donated to Whittier International PTA! Support our students' global learning at Whittier International Elementary School! First Christian supports Whittier in other ways as well, but this option tastes pretty good! Apple picking: Our (mostly) annual apple picking outing will be next Sunday, October 1 at the Deardorff Orchard 8340 Parley Lake Rd, Waconia Meet at the Orchard at 1 pm. Maps are on the easel at the SH entrance. If you are interested in car pooling, there is a sign-up sheet on the easel, or call Michael Vanderford at Sacred Places, Sacred Stories: A Reclamation Journey into Healing Justice will be October 7-9, It has been planned collaboratively by Black, Native, white, queer, cisgender, straight, Christian, Jewish and traditional activists, artists and storytellers from the Center for Sustainable Justice (Lyndale); Black Lives Matter Minneapolis; Healing Minnesota Stories; the Kaleo Center for Faith, Justice and Social Transformation; and Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light. It promises to be an important opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds who wish to learn more powerfully how to be working in spiritually and religiously-rooted ways to bring about embodied justice.
