1 Presbyterian Church of America Christ Community Church DECEMBER, 2018 December 6, 2018 A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR PAUL... STAY IN TOUCH Paul Sanders, Sr. Pastor Roger Sowder, Associate Pastor Jim Perry, Youth Director Jason Cornwell, Assistant Pastor of Worship Steve Wearden, Ministry Staff Assistant FOR YOUR INFORMATION... Check out the Resource Materials in the ADS hallway near the Youth Room. Good reading! THIS WEEK ON - - DISCOVERING CHRISTMAS The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1 This Sunday, we continue to focus on the Advent. Advent means coming and refers to the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. The four Sundays before Christmas prepare us to celebrate two comings. First, Jesus coming as a baby in Bethlehem, and second, His future coming in glory to judge the living and the dead. Have you noticed that the narrative of Jesus does not begin with Once Upon a Time? There is significance to that. Many accuse the story of Jesus as just another fairy tale or fable. But that is not true. The story of Jesus is rooted in history and it was not written to give good advice, but to proclaim good news. Yet, the historical story of Jesus is the reality of what all fairy tales long for; love, justice, forgiveness, and rescue. You cannot imagine what we can learn from the genealogy of Jesus Christ. We find that the story of Jesus is far better than Once Upon a Time. There are copies of the current Update and additional resources available in the Atrium. Men, women, teenagers, retirees, ALL invited to come and join your hearts together in prayer for our body of Christ's Church at CCC. We pray each week for our missionaries, our pastoral staff, church leaders, ministry leaders, our congregation, children, youth, elderly, for God's direction, for the world, our governmental leadership, our protection from sin, from harm, from idolatry, from counterfeit images of God's perfect gifts, from the world, and from Satan. Come and add your prayers - the Lord even hears silent prayers from His saints. Here are two quotes from well-known theologians for consideration: The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but he trembles when we pray. Samuel Chadwick
