In this series, we ll hear about how excited people were for Jesus to come, even hundreds of years before he was born! Then, we ll count down to our own Christmas celebration, learning a lot about God on the way! Memory Verse: Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. 3 Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued) : Trusting Jesus Did you know that people weren t always nice to Jesus? Some people teased Jesus, just like we sometimes get made fun of today. When you feel sad or hurt, God will always listen, and will always be with you. Lesson 2: Meeting Jesus Christmas is still on the way, and we re getting more and more excited! It can be tough to wait, but there s one thing we can always remember while we wait: God loves us! This week, we ll hear the story of some people who met Jesus after he was born, and see how they learned that God loves them. Lesson 3: Waiting for Jesus It can be hard to wait, especially for Christmas! Did you know that God told people that Jesus was coming hundreds of years before he was born? That s a long time to wait! We can make waiting a little easier by counting down to Christmas in a super fun way, and learning that we can trust God, even when we have to wait. Lesson 4: Following Jesus Christmas is here! It s the most wonderful time of the year, but have you ever wondered why we celebrate Christmas? The amazing thing is, Jesus came for a reason, to show us all that God loves us. Following Jesus is a wise choice, because he loves you so much, and you can always trust his plan. 3

5 Transition Time 2:00 Do This: 10 minutes after the start of the Adult Service, walk into every Preschool Room and introduce yourself. Tell kiddos to follow the directions of their room leaders, clean up, line up, and that you will see them in a little bit in the large group room. Know This: You are these Kid-Os experience of church! Your tone, attitude, and actions are forming the way these kids think about God, church, and even people in general. You have the opportunity through what you do and say to create an environment where they feel safe, welcome, included, and valuable! My name is, and I m super excited to be here for a brand-new series in Kid-O-Deo with all of you! We ll hear a great story, sing some songs, and even dance and play a game called Kid-O-Whampus! Before we start, though, there are three things we should all practice together. They re our three Kid- O-Deo rules. Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Wonderful! Those rules help us pay attention and keep us from distracting others, so we can all have fun. 5

6 Worship 3:00 Let s stand up, because we get to start by singing about how wonderful God is. This is an extra special time of year to sing about God, because Christmas is almost here. Christmas is when we celebrate God sending Jesus to show how much he loves us. That s what this song is about. Song 1: Its Christmastime (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Bible Adventure 5:00 It s so fun singing with you, Kid-O s! You can sit down. We re starting a new series today called. Our stage is all decorated, and we have a countdown calendar up here to help us count down the days until Christmas is here. Do any of you have something like this at home? Do This: Point out the countdown calendar. On this calendar, you put one ornament on the tree for every day closer to Christmas we get! On Christmas, we ll get to put the star ornament on top of the tree! That s not the only way we ll be counting down to Christmas, though! We have twenty-five gifts up here, too. Each one has a different number on it! Since today is December, we get to open gift number! We get to open it in a super fun way, too. Do This: Punch through the tissue paper on the front of the gift. Take out the Bible. Know This: Make sure the objects you need are inside the box before the hour begins, and that the hole on the box is covered with tissue paper. If the number on the box you are using doesn t match today s date, change the number. After the hour, you should place the objects into the box again (the bottom is hollow, just lift the box and place them underneath). Also after the hour, replace the tissue paper by taping another piece over top of the one you punched through. There are a few things in here! The first one is a book. It s a Bible! That must mean it s time for us to go on a Bible Adventure. 6

7 Bible Adventure Jingle Do This: Show kids the Bible. Kid-Os, the Bible is a book all about God. Since our world began, people have been learning about God, and when they saw God do something amazing, or learned something new about him, they wrote it and put it in this book! Today, we get to hear a story about the place where God s son, Jesus, came from. Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair. This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave. Picture 1: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph On Christmas, we celebrate a very special day, the day that God s son Jesus was born. The day Jesus was born, though, not many people noticed. His parents didn t have anywhere to stay, so he was born in a place where animals were kept. Picture 2: Jesus in Nazareth Jesus grew up in a town called Nazareth. It was a town that some people didn t like. They would make fun of the people that came from there. They even made fun of Jesus. Picture 3: People laughing at Jesus Jesus knew that God had a plan, though. Jesus didn t have a perfect family, he didn t have a lot of money or things, and he came from a place not many people expected. Even when things were difficult, though, Jesus knew that every part of his story was part of God s plan. Picture 4: Jesus talks to a group 7

8 Jesus showed people that God loves them by being kind, helping them, and giving his life for them. It wasn t always easy, but Jesus always trusted God, and chose to follow his plan. Series Title Slide: Great job listening, Kid-O s! We really can trust God like Jesus did, no matter what. No matter where you re from, God has a plan for you! Now, it s time to find out what else is in this big gift! Do This: Reach into the gift again and take out a Memory Verse card. This card has a verse on it. It s our memory verse! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance) Memory Verse: Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. This memory verse tells us about the time when Jesus was born. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. God sent Jesus to show everyone on earth that God loves them. Sometimes, the writers of the Bible called Jesus the Savior, like in this verse. Let s practice saying that verse together! Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your quiet voices, then do it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices! Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: (Open your Bibles) Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David (Put arms on top of one another, and lift top hand in morning motion) a Savior (arms across chest) has been born to you (rocking baby motion). Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os! Let s stay on our feet and get ready to sing and worship God! 8

9 Worship 3:00 God sending Jesus was the best gift we could ever get! Let s stand and sing this song about how Jesus is the best gift ever. Song 2: The Best Gift Ever (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Try it Out 5:00 Jesus is amazing! There was something more in that gift we opened earlier. Let s see what it was. Do This: Reach into the gift again, and take out a doll. This is a doll. This reminds me of what we re learning today, which means it must be time to try it out! Try it Out Jingle (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: This is the time where we get to try out what we ve learned today. This doll makes me think of a baby. It was made with its own hair, with feet, hands, and even its own eye color. It kind of reminds me of how God made you and me. God has made every one of you uniquely. That means there is no one else who is just like you. There is so much about you that is special, and God knows everything about you. He gave you your eye color, your own fingerprints, and even gave you your talents, or the things you are good at. That s not all God thought of when he made you, though. He gave you your family, he put you in the place you live. Sometimes, it s hard to understand why God made 9

10 us the way he did, but remember the story we heard in our Bible Adventure. Jesus, God s son, was born to a family that didn t have much. As Jesus grew up, there were people who made fun of him because of where he came from. Jesus always knew that God had a plan for him, though. He trusted that God cared about every part of his life. Even when things happened that were hard to understand, God had a plan for Jesus life, and He has a plan for yours! God put you where you live for a reason. He gave you your family for a reason, and just like Jesus did, you can always trust that God has a plan for you. That s one reason spending time with God is so important. When we get to know God better, it s easier to know what he wants us to do, and to see what his plan for us is. Kid-Os, you can spend time with God anywhere and anytime, because he is always ready to listen to you. The things you have to say, the things you feel, and the things that matter to you are all so important to God, because he made you and he loves you. You did really well listening Kid-Os. Now, it s time for us to find out what else is in this gift box. Do This: Reach into the gift box and take out an ornament. This ornament goes on our big tree, but before we can put it up, let s learn our Big Idea with Ranger Ron. Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle Let s say Hi Ranger Ron! 11 Thanks Ranger Ron. It s so good to know that we can always trust God s plan, no matter what happens, or where we are. Now it s finally time to put up this ornament! There are two things you should get as you leave today. The first one is our family connection card! This helps your grown-ups learn what we were talking about today. The second thing is our memory verse card. This card helps you remember and practice the memory verse at home, so when you come back next week, you ll have it ready! Let s Pray God loves when you talk to him about whatever is important to you, because he cares about you. God will always listen when you talk to him, no matter what time it is, or where you are. Let s talk to God for a moment right now! We ll put our hands in our laps and close our eyes to help us focus on what we re saying to God. If you want to, you can repeat this prayer after me.
