1 Angels Spoke to Mary & Joseph 4pm: 3yr - 5/K Teacher Guide Bible Passage: Matthew 1:18-24 Main Point: God keeps His promises! Memory Verse: Numbers 23:19B What he says he will do, he does. What he promises, he keeps. 3:45 4:00 Check-In / Playtime. One teacher take control of sign-in: One tag will go on the child, another will go on the clipboard, and one will be used for checkout. Just place the Pick Up sticker on the clipboard to check the child out. If someone is new to the church or not in our database they can fill out a guest tag. Please make sure that you get their phone number in case we need to contact them and any special instructions for the care of their child. One teacher lead orderly free play: 4:00 4:20 Coloring Sheet / Snack / Intro Activity COLORING SHEET: Have the kids color the sheet and ask them questions about the sheet. SNACK: Animal Crackers & Water Give each child animal crackers in a cup & water in a cup with a lid. Pray over them a simple prayer. INTRO ACTIVITY: Relay Have the kids line up in 2 lines across from one another. Instruct the first child to run to the person across from them and give them a high five, that child will then run to the next person in the line across form them. Continue until everyone has had a chance to go. Say: You did a great job listening today! Mary and Joseph did a great job listening to God. Today we re going to learn that God had a plan to give Jesus a family when He came to earth as a baby. 4:20 5:00 Story and Craft STORY: Have the children transition to the Jesus rug for story time. Read the Bible Story provided in the teacher aid bin. Say: God had a big plan for Mary and Joseph. Mary and Joseph loved God. God chose them to be the family of Jesus. God needed to send Jesus to keep his promise to us! God keeps His promises! Craft: Angel Items needed: half paper plates, printout of triangle, circle, crayons, stapler Instructions: (1) Give each child two paper plates and a printout of the triangle. Have the color it. (2) Help the child staple the pieces together to resemble an angel. (3) Have the child glue the head on the angel. Say: God sent an angel to Mary and Joseph to tell them they are going to have a baby. God picked Mary and Joseph to be Jesus family. God sent Jesus to fulfill His promise. God keeps His promises! Hide the baby doll in an easy to find spot in the classroom and invite the preschoolers to find it. Say: Jesus is God s Son! God promised to send Jesus to earth because He loves us. The angel went to visit a young woma Mary was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph. The angel said to Mary, God is happy with you! He is with you. Mary was afraid and unsure. Why would with her? She had done nothing special. Do not be afraid, the angel said. He told Mary that she was going to have a very special baby. The baby s Jesus. Mary asked the angel, How can that happen? The angel said, God will be the father of the baby. The baby will be God s Son. Then the angel said, God can do anything! He told Mary that her relative Elizabeth was pregnant, even th and did not have any children. May everything happen just as you said, Mary said. Then the angel left. Mary hurried to Elizabeth s house. When she arrived, the baby inside Elizabeth leaped for joy! The Holy Sp Elizabeth and she said, What an honor, Mary! You and your baby will be blessed! Mary was so happy. She praised God with a song about how great God is. Mary knew families in the future was blessed because God was going to do great things through Jesus. God had kept His promise to Abraham to world through Jesus. Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months. Then she went home. Joseph found out Mary was going to have a baby, but Joseph knew it was not his baby; Mary and Joseph we yet! Soon after Joseph thought these things, an angel appeared to him in a dream. Joseph! the angel said. Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. Mary is going to have a son. Name Hi He is going to save His people from their sins! When Joseph woke up, he did just what the angel said. He married Mary, and when she had a son, Joseph n Christ Connection: Many of God s prophets talked about Jesus before He was born. Everything they said about Jesus came tru the world, He planned to send Jesus. Jesus came to do God s plan, to rescue people from sin.
