2 CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK 2017 April 30 th May 5 th Walking Forward Together Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 Accomplis la justice, aime la bonté et marche humblement avec ton Dieu. Michée 6,8 This year s Catholic Education Week theme is, Walking Forward Together. The 2017 CEW theme and its five sub-themes are drawn from three contemporary Catholic documents that address the need for reconciliation and renewal in our lives, with our families, in our relationships with others and in our relationship with our environment and our common global future. The first is the 2016 response of the Canadian Catholic Bishops to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission that we need to heal past injustices by Walking Forward Together. The second is the 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si : On Care for Our Common Home by Pope Francis, that emphasizes the cultural roots of our ecological problems and advocates an urgent world collaboration for the care of our common global home. The third document, Amoris Laetitia: The Joy of Love is a 2016 Apostolic Exhortation by Pope Francis, which applauds our dedication and concern shown to children, families, migrants, the poor, the elderly, and to persons with special needs, as a sign of the Spirit. These supportive relationships are a test of our commitment to show mercy in welcoming others and to help the vulnerable, to be fully a part of our communities. Our CEW biblical quote, Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8), acknowledges the important role of justice and solidarity with our Indigenous peoples, our environment, the poor and marginalized, and all those who work to protect our common global future. There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week: Day 1: Day 2: Day 3: Day 4: Day 5: Walking Forward Together with God Aller de l avant avec Dieu Walking Forward Together with Our Families Aller de l avant avec nos familles Walking Forward Together with Others Aller de l avant avec les autres Walking Forward Together with Creation Aller de l avant avec la Création Walking Forward Together in Hope Aller de l avant dans l espérance Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own developed activities, we have prepared a series of activities which will highlight how our school is Walking Forward Together. We hope to see many of you during our school celebrations.

7 Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board Proclaiming the Work of Your Love DRESS CODE As the warmer weather approaches please review the school dress code with your child: Our school is a Catholic community and we require our students to dress in a fashion that represents the respect and dignity of the individual. We are a place of learning and as such have an understanding that what we wear portrays our purpose. Clothing must be functional, modest and clean. Students are expected to wear clothing that will overlap when standing and sitting and must cover undergarments. Open back, tube/tank tops, spaghetti straps and muscle shirts are not permitted by themselves or under other clothing. Sleeveless tops with a shoulder band of at least the width of three fingers are acceptable. Shorts, skirts, skorts and dresses are expected to be of a modest length (width of wearer s hand at knee). T-shirts with suggestive slogans or those offensive to Christian values are not permitted. It is recommended that all pupils necklaces and neck wear (i.e. chokers, chains, whistle straps, neckkey chain holders etc.) are to be constructed of breakaway materials, or preferably not worn at all. (Recommendation by the jury at the Coroner s Inquest of the Myles Neuts fatality in 1998.) Before students leave the school premises for a special activity or an excursion, the teacher will inform the students and their parents of the appropriate dress required e. g. white shirts, black pants for a Music Festival etc. We show we care, by dressing in a manner which is appropriate for our school setting Proper Footwear Students are allowed to wear sandals and flip flops indoors, however, outdoor shoes must have backs on them. Proper footwear is required for gym time activities indoors and outdoors. Let us remember in prayer Betty Voisin and John Wilkin Grandmother to Alexie Reid and Jasmine Voisin, Uncle to Teo and Saskia Remers, Gracious God, loving Creator, welcome Betty and John into paradise. In your love, lead them into the unending joys of your presence where every tear will be wiped away, Looking for Volunteers: During the past several years, the Dirven family has taken care of the flower beds in front of the school. Our school has always looked so beautiful for our families and visitors. The Dirven children have moved on to high school. We are looking for a family or a group of families who would be willing to come a few times a year to look after the flower beds. If you are interested please call the school. Merci beaucoup! and there will be no more sorrow. Amen. We are a Catholic Faith Community committed to developing and maintaining a love of life long learning, nurturing self-esteem and respect for all creation.

Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. Amen.
