Westminster Presbyterian Church The Lord s Day, September 16, 2018 WPC exists to develop in ourselves and others a passion for the glory of God and the preeminence of Christ in all of life and in all the world, as revealed in the infallible, inerrant Word of God alone.

The Lord s Day September 16, :15 a.m. Greetings and Announcements * The Call to Worship (Psalm 139:13-18) Pastor: For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother s womb. All: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Pastor: My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. All: Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them. Pastor: How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! All: If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. Prayer of Invocation * Hymn of Praise #116 For the Beauty of the Earth For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, For the love which from our birth over and around us lies; For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night, Hill and vale and tree and flow r, sun and moon and stars of light, Lord of all, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise For the joy of ear and eye, for the heart and mind s delight, For the mystic harmony linking sense to sound and sight, For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child: Friends on earth and friends above; for all gentle thoughts and mild, For each perfect gift of thine to our race so freely giv n, Graces human and divine, flow rs of earth and buds of heav n, 2

Reading of Scripture Matthew 25:14-30 Prayer of Confession *Assurance of Pardon In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. (Ephesians 1:7) * Hymn #253 There is a Fountain Filled with Blood There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel s veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; And there have I, as vile as he, washed all my sins away: Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away; And there have I, as vile as he washed all my sins away. E er since by faith I saw the stream your flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be till I die: And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be till I die. Then in a nobler, sweeter song I ll sing your pow r to save, When this poor lisping, stamm ring tongue lies silent in the grave: Lies silent in the grave, lies silent in the grave; When this poor lisping, stamm ring tongue lies silent in the grave Dear dying Lamb, your precious blood shall never lose its pow r, Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more: Be saved to sin no more, be saved to sin no more; Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more. Pastor: Which is the eighth commandment? *Confession of Faith Westminster Larger Catechism Q/A # All: The eighth commandment is, Thou shalt not steal. Pastor: What are the duties required in the eighth commandment? (answer on next page) 3

All: The duties required in the eighth commandment are, truth, faithfulness, and justice in contracts and commerce between man and man; rendering to everyone his due; restitution of goods unlawfully detained from the right owners thereof; giving and lending freely, according to our abilities, and the necessities of others; moderation of our judgments, wills, and affections concerning worldly goods; a provident care and study to get, keep, use, and dispose these things which are necessary and convenient for the sustentation of our nature, and suitable to our condition; a lawful calling, and diligence in it; frugality; avoiding unnecessary lawsuits; and suretyship, or other like engagements; and an endeavor, by all just and lawful means, to procure, preserve, and further the wealth and outward estate of others, as well as our own. Pastor: What are the sins forbidden in the eighth commandment? All: The sins forbidden in the eighth commandment, besides the neglect of the duties required, are, theft, robbery, manstealing, and receiving anything that is stolen; fraudulent dealing; false weights and measures, removing landmarks, injustice and unfaithfulness in contracts between man and man, or in matters of trust; oppression, extortion, usury, bribery, vexatious lawsuits, unjust enclosures and depredation, engrossing commodities to enhance the price; unlawful callings, and all other unjust or sinful ways of taking or withholding from our neighbor what belongs to him, or of enriching ourselves; covetousness; inordinate prizing and affecting worldly goods; distrustful and distracting cares and studies in getting, keeping, and using them; envying at the prosperity of others; as likewise idleness, prodigality, wasteful gaming; and all other ways whereby we do unduly prejudice our own outward estate, and defrauding ourselves of the due use and comfort of that estate which God hath given us. Offertory Prayer, Music, & Offering Song My Worth Is Not In What I Own My worth is not in what I own; not in the strength of flesh and bone, But in the costly wounds of love at the cross. My worth is not in skill or name; in win or lose, in pride or shame, But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross. I rejoice in my Redeemer greatest treasure, well-spring of my soul. I will trust in Him, no other; my soul is satisfied in Him alone. As summer flowers we fade and die; fame, youth and beauty hurry by, But life eternal calls to us at the cross. I will not boast in wealth or might, or human wisdom s fleeting light, But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross. Chorus Two wonders here that I confess: my worth and my unworthiness, My value fixed my ransom paid at the cross. Chorus x2 4

(Children ages 3 through 2nd grade are dismissed at this time for Children s Church at parents discretion) Pastoral Prayer The Proclamation of the Word of God Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 Let Your Ignorance Be Your Guide Rev. Knox White I. You don t know what will grow, so sow II. You don t know what the weather will be, so sow now III. You don t know what disasters will destroy your harvest, so give it away IV. You don t know nothin, so hope for a hundredfold harvest 5

* Hymn of Response #585 Take My Life and Let It Be Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee, swift and beautiful for Thee. Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee, filled with messages from Thee. Take my silver and my gold not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect, and use ev ry pow r as Thou shalt choose, ev ry pow r as Thou shalt choose. Take my will and make it Thine it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne, it shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure-store. Take my self, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee, ever, only, all for Thee. * The Benediction And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:8-11) For Your Calendar: Sunday, Sept. 16, 4-7 p.m. NextGen Youth Group Monday, Sept. 17, 6 p.m. Women s Joshua Study (Li-Ping Chew s Home) Monday, Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m. Session Meeting Wednesday, Sept. 19, 9:30 a.m. Ladies Weekly Bible Study (NCR) Thursday, Sept. 20, 6 a.m. The Carpenter s Apprentices (The Breakfast Place, Beal Pkwy) Thursday, Sept. 20, 4:30-6 p.m. Kids Club Tuesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m. Nursery Volunteer Training 6
