2 Call to Worship Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Joel 2:13

3 Opening Prayer O God, Maker of every thing and judge of all that you have made, from the dust of the earth you have formed us and from the dust of death you would raise us up. By the redemptive power of the cross, create in us clean hearts and put within us a new spirit, that we may turn from our sins, leave the darkness behind and lead lives worthy of Your calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

5 I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice, and it told thy love to me; but I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to thee.

19 Prayer of Confession Leader: Most holy and merciful Father: We confess to you and to one another, and to the whole community of saints in heaven and on earth, That we have sinned by our own pride and arrogance in thought, word, and deed; By what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

20 Leader: We have not loved you with our whole heart, and mind, and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not forgiven others as we have been forgiven. Response: Lord, have mercy on us.

32 Leader: By the cross and passion of your Son our Lord, Response: Bring us with all your saints to the joy of His Resurrection!

34 Lord s Prayer In unison: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. 42 Blessing of the Ashes Lord, help us to know your powerful presence this night. We have come to this place shrouded in darkness both of night and of spirit. Bless these ashes as a sign on our forehead and a seal upon our hearts that we might travel this Journey of Lent and in the end find the healing light of your grace and hope found in Jesus Christ. We lift our souls and spirits to receive your direction. In Christ s Name, we pray. AMEN.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise Psalm 51
