vplease rise in body, mind or spirit, as you are able, when you see this mark. Please silence your cell phone before worship begins. Prelude FANTASIA ON THE HYMNTUNE PICARDY Diane Wituszynski-Deptola (Hymn No. 107) (1991) PRAELUDIUM William Byrd ( ) Processional Hymn PRAISE TO OUR GOD Lobe den Herren (see facing page) vcall to Worship One: As we gather, we remember our sisters and brothers, Beth A. Faeth All: from above and below the equator, from the North and from Down Under, from every time zone around the globe. One: As today s sunlight inches across land and sea, people gather to celebrate their place in the family of creation. All: All people are children of the Holy. One: All creation bears the divine image. All: Let us worship our Creator. vintroit Francis Jackson (1957) For the fruit of all creation, thanks be to God. For the gifts to every nation, thanks be to God. For the plowing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping, Future needs in earth s safekeeping, thanks be to God. For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God. For the good we all inherit, thanks be to God. For the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us, Most of all that love has found us, thanks be to God. Fred Pratt Green, 1970 vunison Prayer 2 God of all peoples, unite our hearts this day as we gather to celebrate your creating presence in our midst. Instill in us a sense of wonder at the life of the cosmos, a sense of gratitude for the presence of those assembled here and for the human family, and a sense of hope in the goodness of the world around us. Remind us that you are a part of each of your children and that we, too, are a part of you.

vthe Lord s Prayer Tender, loving God, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Welcome and Announcements Fellowship Joy Eric Olsen vhymn HE COMES TO US AS ONE UNKNOWN Repton (see facing page) Scripture Reading 1 Corinthians 11:17 26 Meditation a Messy Table Paula Northwood vversicles Minister: Let us prepare our hearts for prayer. Minister: God be with you. Congregation: And with your spirit. Minister: Let us pray. Pastoral Prayer Seth Patterson Offertory THE LOVE OF GOD Libby Larsen world premiere (2018) This anthem was commissioned in celebration of Carolyn Brunelle s 50th year as a member of the Plymouth Choir. The love of God, unutterable and perfect, flows into a pure soul the way that light rushes into a transparent object. The more love that it finds, the more it gives itself; so that, as we grow clear and open, the more complete the joy of heaven is. 4

And the more souls who resonate together, the greater the intensity of their love, and, mirror-like, each soul reflects the other. Dante Alighieri, translation by Stephen Mitchell Prayer of Dedication vdoxology #464 Praise to God, immortal praise, for the love that crowns our days! Bounteous source of every joy, let thy praise our tongues employ; Singing thus through all our days: Praise to God, immortal praise! Amen. vcommunion Hymn #254 Break Thou the Bread of life Bread of Life The Sacrament of Communion All are welcome to participate in this communion meal. The table does not belong to us but to the One who invites us to it. Invitation to the Holy Meal Minister: God of all generations, we come to your table today, World Communion Sunday, to unite with our global family and to celebrate Your love poured out for us. Congregation: God of the open and expanding table, we come to give up our appetites for power, our thirst for revenge, our addictions to despair, our shame about suffering... we come empty-handed, reaching out to receive You. Minister: God of the open and expanding table, we come to partake of Your Spirit living in this bread. Congregation: We come to drink from the cup of blessing, Your love given for us. Minister: God of the feast, we remember today our ancestors in faith; we come to celebrate the ties that bind us, generation to generation, one to each other. Congregation: We live between memory and hope for your kin-dom come, here on earth as it is in heaven. Feed us, rekindle Your light in us to be Your faithful vessels of transformation. Words of Institution and Distribution of the Elements 6 We use grape juice for communion services at Plymouth Church. Gluten-free wafers are available. During the distribution of the elements, Sonja Thompson will play music of Emma Lou Diemer and Charles Callahan, and the Plymouth Choir will sing William Byrd s communion anthem:

AVE VERUM CORPUS William Byrd (1607) Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered and was sacrificed on the cross for mankind; whose side was pierced, from whence flowed water and blood. Be for us a foretaste of heaven, O sweet and pure Jesus, Son of Mary, and have mercy on me. Amen. Eucharistic hymn of Pope Innocent IV, c Prayer of Thanksgiving God, we offer thanks for the touch of your Spirit this day: for the tranquility found in silence; for the nourishment and strength in the bread we have shared; for the delight of fellowship found in the gathered community. We go forth trusting in your wisdom to guide us; your dreams to inspire us; your love to empower us. Amen. vclosing Hymn GOD, WE DO THANK THEE WHO HAS PLANTED Rendez à Dieu (see next page) vbenediction Postlude FINALE from Triptych for Organ Charles Callahan (1989) 7

Ambassador s Pledge Our fourth- and fifth-graders are learning to be Ambassadors this year, joining in greeting, ushering, chatting and serving coffee. Their pledge may be inspiring for us all: I am an ambassador. I am a role model to people at church both children and adults. I will do the right thing today, even if I don t feel like it. I will treat people right today, even if I don t feel like it. Today, I will remember that my willpower is stronger than how I feel or what I think. All things are possible today. Good news is heading my way. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am an ambassador. 10
