1 1 January 2019 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Wow, we have a whole new year to live for Jesus. This is going to be a great year because we are going to be in God s Word and He is going to teach us more and more. God bless you as you study God s wonderful Word this month. Gladly in His Service, Dr. Jason B. Brittain

2 Tuesday January 1 Scripture Reading: Genesis 1-2 Matthew 1 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:11-12 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us. What great Scripture for us as we start a new year! Let s live (and endure) for Jesus. We will end up reigning with Him. Don t ever quit and certainly don t every disown Him. Here s some more encouraging news. Jesus will even help us to keep these commitments. We are so blessed to be able to study the Word openly and freely. There are people who would love to have the freedoms we have. We are also blessed because we know that we are not just studying some history book. We are learning about God and all that He has provided for us. Look at Hebrews 1:1-2, In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. God is now revealing Himself to us through Jesus. We learn about Jesus through the Word. Matthew 1:18, This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Mary gave birth to Jesus even though she was a virgin. His birth was miraculous. Jesus came to reveal the Father to us and He came to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus lived a sinless life so He could die for the sins of the whole world. We know these things from the Word. Prayer: Lord, I want to live fully for You and I am never going to quit. I know that You are always helping me and I rely on You for everything. Help me to know how blessed I am to be able to study Your Word and to learn about Jesus and You. Please teach me more this year. I love You! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

3 Wednesday January 2 Scripture Reading: Genesis 3-5 Matthew 2 Praise the Lord! Look at 2 Timothy 2:13, If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. Jesus is always faithful. I am sure we all know that in general terms but we need to apply this wonderful truth to our lives. Jesus is faithful to you. Even when we waiver and maybe falter Jesus, is still faithful. He will not disown us because we belong to Him. When Jesus was born there were all kinds of signs and wonders that something very special had happened Matthew 2:1-2, After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him. Somehow these guys knew that a King had been born and they went in search of Him. There was even a star to guide them. God was surely in control and He was revealing the birth of Jesus. When king Herod heard about these things he wanted to find Jesus and kill him. That was his plan but he was destined to fail because God all-mighty was in control. God was protecting Jesus and so He told Joseph to go to Egypt and Joseph and Mary did what God wanted them to do. (By the way that is the best way for you to live too. Hear from God and do what He says.) Now look at Matthew 2:19-21, After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child s life are dead. So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. God was still in control. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for Your faithfulness. Thank You that I am going to make it because of Your faithfulness. I want to hear from You and obey You in all things. I know that living like that is best and I know that You will always take care of me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

4 Thursday January 3 Scripture Reading: Genesis 6-8 Matthew 3 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:14, Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarrelling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Paul was telling Timothy to keep preaching the Word and not to get distracted by other things. You may not be called to preach but this is still good advice for you. Base your life on the Word and don t ever get distracted by other things. Matthew 3:1-3, In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one calling in the desert, Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. One of the things I hope we can all see is that those who were willing to do what God told them to do were always blessed. That doesn t mean they never faced anything hard but they always had God s blessing on their life. John the Baptist did what God had called him to do and he was blessed. Matthew 3:16-17 says, As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Jesus was also obedient to God and He was certainly blessed. In this case, God even spoke His blessing over Jesus. I am sure that this was good for Jesus but I also think it was for those who heard it. It probably motivated them to obey God like Jesus had just done. Let it motivate you too. Prayer: Lord, I want to base my life on Your Word and I don t ever want to be distracted by anything else. I want to know what You want me to do and I want to obey You in all things. I know that You blessed those in the Word who lived that way and I want to be blessed too so I can bless others more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

5 Friday January 4 Scripture Reading: Genesis 9-11 Matthew 4 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:15, Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. What a great verse for me to give you as you are doing these devotions. Do your best and you will be on the right track. You will end up being a workman who is not ashamed and who is able to correctly handle the Word of Truth. We are so blessed to be able to read about Jesus and how He did things. There are so many things we can and should learn from Him. In the first part of Matthew 4, Jesus faced the devil and his temptations. Jesus defeated him every time with the Word of God. This is vital for us to know and we need to defeat the devil the same way. Look at what Paul said in Ephesians 6:17, Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Take the Word of God. It is the sword of the Spirit. Want to see how that works? Read Luke 4:1-11 again. Matthew 4:23-25, Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him. Praise the Lord we have given our lives to Jesus. Prayer: Lord, I am going to do my best. I am going to do my best as I study Your Word and I am going to do my best as I live for You. Thank You for always helping me. I choose to take the Word as my sword of the Spirit to defeat the devil and I am again so thankful that You help me in everything. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

6 Saturday January 5 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 5:1-26 Praise the Lord! In yesterday s verse, Paul told us to do our best to be prepared with the Word of God. In today s verse he tells us some things to avoid. 2 Timothy 2:16, Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Base your life on the Word and avoid all those other things that could distract you from what is really important. Avoid godless chatter. We are blessed to be able to study God s Word. It is God speaking to us. We know that Jesus came to reveal the Father to us and He also came to reveal God s ways to us. We need to learn and apply His ways in our lives. With that in mind look at what Jesus said in Matthew 5:10-12, Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. If we face persecution for our commitment to Jesus we are blessed. Others have faced hard times and there will always be people who oppose those who love Jesus more than they do. Matthew 5:16, In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. We need to live for Jesus. If people like us and accept Jesus like we have they will be blessed like we are. If others reject us and Jesus then we need to continue living for Him no matter what others think. Keep being a loving example to them. Prayer: Lord, I want to stay focused on You, Your Word and living like You want. Help me to know if I ever start to get distracted by other things. I want to live fully for You no matter what others think. I want my life to be a good example for others when things are good and when I am facing hard things. I want Your light to shine through me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

7 Sunday January 6 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 5:27-48 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:16-17, Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus. These people were not living like God wanted and unfortunately their influence was spreading. We need to be good influences on people. Let the light of Jesus shine through you. Matthew 5:43-45, You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and He tells us to pray for those who persecute us. Can you imagine what we would look like if we really did these things? Before you answer let me tell you what Jesus said. We would look like our Father in heaven. Matthew 5:46-48, If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Even sinners do nice things to those who love them in return. We need to love and pray for those who don t love us in return. We need to be like Jesus. Romans 8:29, For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Prayer: Lord, I want my life to influence people for good. I want Your light to shine through me. I can see that loving and praying for people who oppose me are surely ways to let my influence grow. I know that is what Jesus does and I want to be more like Him. Please continue Your good work in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

8 Monday January 7 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 6 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:17-18, Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. These people were off themselves and they were hurting others. We don t want to be like them. We should be helping people to have faith in Jesus. I sure hope you do the Scripture Readings I have laid out on these devotions. You see, we need all of the Word. In these short devotions I can only comment on a few of the things covered in each day s reading. So, please continue reading and God will speak to you as you do. Matthew 6:33, But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. This is such a key verse. Jesus wants to be number one in our lives. One person said it this say, If Jesus is not Lord of all then He is not Lord at all. We need to seek Him, His Kingdom and His Righteousness first. When we do those things this verse tells us that He will help us with all the other things in our lives. You see, Jesus knows there are other things that we need to deal with and He wants to help us. When we keep Him first we will have His help. Think about it this way. Wouldn t you rather deal with all those other things with His help? Now, look at the very next verse that ties right into this one. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Prayer: Lord, I want to help others to have faith in You. Help me to never hurt anyone as they pursue You. I want to seek You, Your Kingdom and Your righteousness first. Help me. I know that I have nothing to worry about because You are helping me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

9 Tuesday January 8 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 7 Praise the Lord! Let s look again at, 2 Timothy 2:18, Who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. These people had strayed so far from the truth that they were denying the future resurrection. They would have done better avoiding godless chatter. They should have sought Jesus, His Kingdom and His righteousness more. Matthew 7:1-2, Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. This is a great example of the law of sowing and reaping. If you sow judgement you will reap judgement. This law also works on the positive side of things. Sow good things and you will reap good things. Can you think of any areas of your life where you need to stop sowing bad things and where you need to start sowing good things? Well then, get busy. Matthew 7:7-8. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Jesus said these things. I believe He was wanting to motivate us to pray more. So, here s what He did. He told us that when we pray we will get answers. If you really believe this (and you should) then you should be motivated to pray more. Jesus was really making sure we would get the point by referring to prayer in three different ways. Ask (that sounds like prayer), seek (this also sounds like prayer) and finally knock. Don t quit. God answers your prayer. Be motivated. Prayer: Lord, I want to avoid everything that might distract me from You and Your perfect will for my life. I also want to pursue things that You want for me. I know that praying more is certainly one of the things that I should be doing more. Please help me to know that You answer my prayers and help me to be motivated to actually pray more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

10 Wednesday January 9 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 8 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:19, Nevertheless, God s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: The Lord knows those who are his, and, Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness. Aren t you glad that God knows that you have turned your life over to Him? He knows you and He is going to keep you. Well then turn away from wickedness because people who belong to God don t live wicked lives. Matthew 8:1-3, When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. I am willing, he said. Be clean! Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. This short story is very important. You see, there are people today who aren t sure if Jesus is willing to heal them. This man was like that and Jesus said that He was willing and He healed him. If this answer was just for him I think Jesus would have said something like, I am willing to heal you but to be clear there are some people I am not willing to heal. We know Jesus didn t say that because He was and is willing to heal everyone. We need to believe that and come to Him in faith. Matthew 8:16-17, When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases. Many came to Jesus and He healed them all. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful that I have given my life to You and I am thankful that You have taken my life. Help me to turn away from all wickedness. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me as my Healer. I am never going to doubt what You have revealed in Your Word. Thank You for being willing to heal me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

11 Thursday January 10 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 9:1-17 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:20, In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. Paul isn t just talking about bowls and utensils in this verse. He is talking about people. Some people can be used more than others. If you want to know what makes the difference you can read the next verse. We will talk about it tomorrow. Matthew 9:2-8, Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven. At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, This fellow is blaspheming! Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up and walk? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins... Then he said to the paralytic, Get up, take your mat and go home. And the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men. Psalms 103:1-3, Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. Jesus forgives ALL our sins and He heals ALL our diseases. The Old Testament promised that and Jesus revealed that He is the One who does all these things. Believe in Jesus and all that He has provided for you. Prayer: Lord, I want to be used by You more. I know that You have called me to live for You and to represent You well. Please help me. I am also thankful for all the revelation that You are giving me from Your Word. I know that You forgive ALL my sins and that You heal ALL my diseases. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

12 Friday January 11 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 9:18-38 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:21, If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Want to be used by God more? Cleanse yourself from all wickedness and you will be more useful for the Master. He has good works that He has prepared for you to do. Let s not ever miss out on anything Jesus has for us. Look at Matthew 9:20-22, Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed. Jesus turned and saw her. Take heart, daughter, he said, your faith has healed you. And the woman was healed from that moment. This woman had heard about Jesus, she had faith in Jesus, she spoke what she had faith for, she acted on her faith and she received what she had faith for. Jesus said, Your faith has healed you. Let me review the steps she took because they are what we all need to do. This woman had heard about Jesus, she had faith in Jesus, she spoke what she had faith for, she acted on her faith and she received what she had faith for. Matthew 9:27-29, As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, Have mercy on us, Son of David! When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? Yes, Lord, they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, According to your faith will it be done to you. Let s have faith in Jesus! Prayer: Lord, help me to know if there is any wickedness in me and help me to get rid of it. I also thank You for showing me that I need to have and utilize my faith more. I want all that You have for me. Thank You for teaching me Your ways. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

13 Saturday January 12 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 10:1-23 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:22, Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Flee from the things God tells you to flee from and pursue the things He tells you to pursue. Ephesians 5:10 says, Find out what pleases the Lord. Find out what pleases the Lord and do those things. Look at the last verse we covered yesterday, Matthew 9:38, Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Jesus told His people to pray and ask God to send more workers into the harvest field. What do you think they did with that instruction? I believe they prayed just like Jesus told them to do. I believe that because God answered their prayers. Look at the very next verse. Matthew 10:1, He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. Don t miss this. They prayed for God to send more workers and God answered by sending them! Matthew 10:7-8, As you go, preach this message: The kingdom of heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Jesus not only sent them He also gave them power and authority to do what He was sending them to do. So, here s a recap that is worth seeing. Jesus told them to pray. They prayed and Jesus answered their prayers by choosing to use them and He helped them to do what they had prayed for. Let s pray more! Remember God hears your prayers and He answers them. Prayer: Lord, I want to flee from wrong things and I want to pursue good things. Help me please You in all things. I know that prayer needs to be a greater part of my life. I also know that You answer my prayers and I know that I may end up being used more. Help me to be confident that You will always help me to do what You call me to do. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

14 Sunday January 13 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 10:24-42 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:23, Don t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. If God just told us to not have anything to do with arguments it would be enough but He even calls them foolish and stupid arguments and He tells us that they produce quarrels. Romans 12:18 tells us how to live, If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Did you know that God loves you? I am sure you do know that but I also know we all need to know it more. Ephesians 3:16-19, I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fulness of God. Paul prayed that they might know the love of God more because it would change them for the good. Look at how much God loves you, Matthew 10:29-31, Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. God loves you that much. Surely we can and should trust a Savior that loves us that much. He died for us, He was raised from the dead, He is alive today and He is praying for us. That s love. Prayer: Lord, please help me to live at peace with others. I know that part of that process is for me to avoid things that cause quarrels. Thank You for loving me. I know that my understanding of Your love is mine because You have revealed it to me and I want to grasp Your love even more fully. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

15 Monday January 14 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 11 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:24, And the Lord s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Are you the Lord s servant? Well then don t quarrel. It is much better to pray and trust God to work things out. Believe me He is much better at accomplishing His will than we are. Be kind to people, teach people what God has taught you and don t be resentful. Have you ever felt like you were one of the least in the Kingdom of God? Well, look at Matthew 11:11, I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. I want to make sure you realize what Jesus said here. Jesus said that John the Baptist was greater than any person who was ever born. This includes all the great men and women of faith in the Old Testament. Then Jesus went on to say that he who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than John! Did you get this? Can you believe this applies to you? I hope you can because it does apply to you. Now look at Matthew 11:28-30, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Have you ever felt weary and burdened? Well, Jesus is giving you an invitation to come to Him. He will help you, He will teach you His ways and He will give you rest for your soul. Can you believe that this applies to you? I hope you can because it does apply to you. Prayer: Lord, I want to live like a servant of Yours should live. Help me to pray and trust You more. I also want to be kind to others. Help me to know how significant it is that I am part of Your Kingdom. I also thank You for reminding me that I can always come to You for help when I am weary and burdened. In Jesus Name, Amen.

16 Tuesday January 15 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 12:1-21 Praise the Lord! Paul was writing about how a person of God should live. 2 Timothy 2:25, Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth. If someone opposes us we should try to gently instruct them so they can know the truth and be set free. Don t give up on people. Pray for them and keep showing them the love of God. There were people who opposed Jesus during His earthly ministry and one of the points of contention was the Sabbath. The religious leaders of the day had all kinds of rules and regulations about what a person could and could not do on the Sabbath and Jesus didn t keep all their rules. In Matthew 12 they were upset with Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath. Matthew 12:11-12, He said to them, If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Jesus was pointing out that they would help an animal in trouble on the Sabbath and so it was perfectly acceptable for Jesus to help a person on the Sabbath too. Matthew 12:13, Then he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. This was a good thing and it is always right to do good things. You would think everyone would have been convinced but look at the next verse. Matthew 12:14, But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. They were missing God because of their own man made rules and regulations. Prayer: Lord, help me to know how to handle people who oppose me and the Good News. Help me to be gentle and help me to pray and never give up. Jesus, I am so thankful for Your goodness and I am thankful that You are always ready and willing to help me no matter what day it is or what others may think. In Jesus, Name, Amen.

17 Wednesday January 16 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 12:22-50 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 2:25-26, Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. Don t quit on people. Remember that our ultimate goal is for them to turn their lives over to Jesus. It is the devil that is trying to deceive them. Let s speak the truth and live it so they can learn and be saved. Yesterday, we talked about people who were opposing Jesus. Look at what He said to them in Matthew 12:34, You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. They were saying all kinds of evil things about Him. Jesus said it was because the abundance in their hearts was evil. The good side of this truth is that we can have a good abundance in our hearts rather than evil. When we have a good abundance we will speak good words of life. Let s let Jesus rule in our hearts and let s store God s Word up so we will speak good rather than evil. Matthew 12:48-50, He replied to him, Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? Pointing to his disciples, he said, Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. Hear the truth and put it into action in your life. When we do those things we show that we belong to Jesus. Look at Romans 8:29, For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Prayer: Lord, I want to see more people being saved and I want my life to be a good witness for You. I also want my words to represent You and Your good work in my life. Help me to store good up in my life and then to speak from that good abundance. I am so glad that I have given my life to You! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

18 Thursday January 17 Scripture Reading: Genesis 41 Matthew 13:1-32 Praise the Lord! Look at what Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:1, But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. You know that I don t spend time speculating about when Jesus is going to come back. We know that He is coming but we don t know when. Paul is going to write about things that will happen before Jesus returns and we will see that these are things that are certainly happening in our day. So, let s live fully for Jesus. That is the best way to live. We have the parable of the sower in your reading for today. Look at what Jesus said in Matthew 13:14-15, In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. Jesus was saying that when people wanted to understand they could and when people didn t want to understand or when they were rejecting the truth they would not be able to understand. Thank God we want to understand. Matthew 13:23, But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. This parable is about the Word. We need to hear it and we need to hold on to it so it will produce in our lives. Thank God that we are getting lots of the Word. Let s understand and let the Word produce great things in our lives. Prayer: Lord, I want to live fully for You and I know that is how I will always be ready. I want to be ready if you come back right away and I want to be ready if it takes a long time. Please continue to teach me Your ways and I am so thankful for Your patience. I love Your Word and I want It to produce mightily in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

19 Friday January 18 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 13:33-58 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:2, People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy. Paul said people will be living these things out in the last days. We can sure see a lot of these things happening around us. We should not live like this. We could take this list and know that we should be doing the exact opposite. Thank God that we have His help to live like He wants us to live. Jesus taught using parables a lot. He was wanting to make Spiritual truths easy for us to understand. When we want to understand He will help us. Look at Matthew 13:33, He told them still another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough. When we are in the Kingdom of God it will grow and end up taking over everything in our lives. That is Good News! His Kingdom and His ways are always right. Matthew 13:45-46, Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. The Kingdom is very valuable and we should be willing to give everything we have to get it. After all when you were saved you gave your life to Jesus. Believe me the life we gain in Jesus is much better than anything we will ever have to give up. Look at Matthew 13:52, He said to them, Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old. Has God taught you many things? You should be willing to share with others. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful that You are in my life. I want to live like You want. I know that Your ways are always right. I am also thankful for all that You have taught me. I want to be faithful and I want to share the Good News with others. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

20 Saturday January 19 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 14:1-21 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:2-3, People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good. Thank God that we have given our lives to Jesus. Who knows where we would be if He hadn t saved us. Let s keep our lives open to Him and closed to the devil. Herod was a wicked man and he killed John the Baptist. Look at John 10:10, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. The devil is the one who kills so we know that the devil was behind what Herod did. Jesus came to give life and life in abundance. When Jesus heard about John s death look what He did. Matthew 14:13-14, When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Jesus kept giving people life and life in abundance. Thank God that we have given our lives to such a wonderful Savior. Then Jesus fed the multitudes and look at Matthew 14:20-21, They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. There were probably about 20,000 people there and Jesus met their needs. That s life and life in abundance. Prayer: Lord, I am so glad that I have given my life to You. Thank You for saving me from how my life would have been if I hadn t gotten saved. I want to keep my life open to You and closed to the devil. I don t want any part of the things the devil makes people do. Thank You for alway meeting my needs in abundance. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

21 Sunday January 20 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 14:22-36 Praise the Lord! Paul is continuing to describe people who don t know Jesus. They are, Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God 2 Timothy 3:4. Think about this. They are lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. We are lovers of God and look at what He gives us. Psalms 16:11, You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. He gives us Eternal pleasures. Look at what Jesus said to the disciples in Matthew 14:27, But Jesus immediately said to them: Take courage! It is I. Don t be afraid. Now I know that this was Jesus speaking to the disciples who were in a boat in the middle of a storm but I believe Jesus is speaking this to us today too. Can you believe He is speaking to you right now? If you can believe it then it is for you. Believe it and do your part. Here s your part. Take courage! Don t be afraid. Well, the disciples made it and you are going to make it too. Look what happened next. Matthew 14:34-36, When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed. When the people recognized Jesus they turned to Him for help. Do you recognize Jesus today? Maybe I should ask it this way. Do you recognize that Jesus is speaking to you and saying, Take courage! Don t be afraid. Recognize Him and turn to Him for help right now. Prayer: Lord, I love You and I want to know more about the Eternal pleasures that are at Your right hand. I also recognize You speaking to me and saying, Take courage! Don t be afraid. I am turning to You in Faith and I know that I am going to make it because You are my Savior. In Jesus' Name, Amen..

22 Monday January 21 Scripture Reading: Genesis Matthew 15:1-20 Praise the Lord! Paul is still describing people who don t know God. 2 Timothy 3:5, Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. They wanted to look like they were Christians but they were denying God s power. Paul said to have nothing to do with them. You see they might lead you astray and others might see you being with them and assume you believe the errors they believe. Some religious people came and asked Jesus some questions. They weren t really interested in His answers because they weren t really seeking truth. They were just trying to trap Jesus. Look at what He said to them. Matthew 15:3, Jesus replied, And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? Jesus wasn t breaking the command of God. He always lived exactly how the Father wanted Him to live. These other men were breaking the commands of God because they were exalting the traditions of men above what the Word says. Matthew 15:7-9, You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men. They were saying the right things but their hearts were far from God. Because they were doing these things their worship was in vain. You see, God looks at our hearts. When our hearts are right towards God He is able to work in our lives. As long as Jesus is working in our lives we are going to make it. Thank God that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Prayer: Lord, I don t ever want to be led astray from You. I know that You have life and life in abundance for me and I don t want to miss out on anything You have for me. Help me to base everything on Your Word. I know that You are working in my life and I am so thankful that You are never going to quit on me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

23 Tuesday January 22 Scripture Reading: Exodus 1-3 Matthew 15:21-39 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:6, They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires. The people who were doing these things were way off base. They were using their lives and their influence to lead others astray. We should use our lives and our influence to help people and to lead them to Jesus. I hope you are doing your Scripture Readings every day. There was a woman who came to Jesus in faith and she refused to be denied. Look at the end result. Matthew 15:28, Then Jesus answered, Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed from that very hour. Her example sure motivates me to take my needs to Jesus in Faith and to never quit. Do you have the same reaction to accounts like this? Matthew 15:30-31, Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. These great crowds were like the woman who came to get healing for her daughter. They came to Jesus in Faith and they did whatever was necessary to get the needy to Him. Jesus healed them and they all praised God. I guess we can add something to what I said before. Come to Jesus in Faith, never quit and make sure to praise God. We should be the most thankful people. Prayer: Lord, I want to use my life and influence to help people. Please help me to be a good representative for You and Your goodness. I also want to be a person of great Faith, I want to never quit and I know that I should always praise You more. Thank You for speaking to me from Your Word every day. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

24 Wednesday January 23 Scripture Reading: Exodus 4-6 Matthew 16 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:7, Always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Have you ever met someone like this? They seem to know about everything but they don t know the truth and they certainly don t live the truth. We need to know the truth and we need to let the truth affect every area of our lives. Matthew 16:13-15, When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man is? They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? Jesus was in the process of revealing more to the disciples. Aren t you glad that He is still revealing more to you? Matthew 16:16-18, Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus replied, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Peter had received revelation from the Father and Jesus commended him for it. You see, the Father reveals things to us as well. Thank God that you can spend time in His Word every day. Many times His revelation comes through the Word. The more time you spend in the Word the more opportunities God will have to speak to you. When He does speak to you hold on to what He shows you. You may not need it right then or it might be for someone else but don t ever quit listening and learning. Prayer: Lord, I want to learn more from You and I want to put it all into practice in my life. Please help me to do my best as I study Your Word and help me to really get everything You are revealing to me. I want to learn for myself and I want to be equipped with Your Word so I can help others more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

25 Thursday January 24 Scripture Reading: Exodus 7-8 Matthew 17 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:8, Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth--men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. Paul referred to these two men from the Old Testament who had rejected God and His ways. It is interesting that Paul said they had depraved minds. We need to renew our minds to the Word and then we will always be on the right track. Look at Matthew 17:24-26, After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, Doesn t your teacher pay the temple tax? Yes, he does, he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. What do you think, Simon? he asked. From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes--from their own sons or from others? From others, Peter answered. Then the sons are exempt, Jesus said to him. This was a tax that was collected for the upkeep of the Temple of God. Jesus pointed out that in the natural the king s sons don t pay taxes and since He was the Son of God He was exempt from this tax. But look at what He did next. Matthew 17:27, But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours. Jesus went ahead and paid the tax for Himself and Peter and He did it miraculously. Jesus will help you financially too. Trust Him and believe. Prayer: Lord, I want to renew my mind to Your Word more. Please help me. I also thank You for meeting my every need. I know that You always have and I know that You always will. Help me to remember this and help me grow in my trust and confidence in You. Please bless my Pastor today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

26 Friday January 25 Scripture Reading: Exodus 9-10 Matthew 18:1-20 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:9, But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone. When people are not living for God it may seem like they are getting away with all kinds of things but God knows everything and there is a day coming when He will take care of them. We need to keep living for Him and we need to trust Him. We even need to trust His timing. The disciples wanted to be great in the Kingdom and I don t think Jesus minded. They did need to learn how to be great but I think the desire was a good thing. Matthew 18:1-4, At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. They were asking to be great and Jesus told them how to be great. They needed to become more childlike. Children trust, they forgive and they are always learning. Want to be great in the Kingdom? Humble yourself and become more like a child. Matthew 18:18-20, I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Jesus gives us power and authority. Believe it. Prayer: Lord, I want to live fully for You and I am going to trust You to take care of those who are rejecting You. I want to be great in Your Kingdom and I know that trusting in You and continually learning are part of that process. Please help me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

27 Saturday January 26 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 18:21-35 Praise the Lord! Paul had been writing about people who were rejecting God and His ways. Now he is going to write to us. 2 Timothy 3:10, You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance. We should pay attention to those who have taught us the Word and we should live like God wants. Paul was a good example and I hope you have some good examples in your life too. Be thankful for them and bless them when you can. Matthew 18: Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. I don t think we should be too hard on Peter here. I have seen a lot of people who wanted to quit forgiving someone before seven times. Haven t you? Jesus said we should forgive people much more than that. I don t think He was saying seventy seven times and then we can quit forgiving them. Do you agree? Matthew 18:32-35, Then the master called the servant in. You wicked servant, he said, I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn t you have had mercy on your fellow-servant just as I had on you? In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart. We need to forgive people just like God has forgiven us. How many times has God forgiven you? Prayer: Lord, thank You for the men and women You have brought into my life to be examples for me. Help me to appreciate them. I also thank You for forgiving me so many times. Help me to forgive others just like You have forgiven me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

28 Sunday January 27 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 19:1-15 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:10-11, You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings--what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. Paul had been through a lot of things and yet he could still say that the Lord had rescued him from them all. Let s trust God like Paul did. Matthew 19:1-2, When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. Jesus always had time to help people. I really want you to get that today. He must have been the busiest person who ever lived and yet He would take time to minister to people whenever they came to Him. Do you know that He has time for you today? Matthew 19:13-15, Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there. The disciples thought Jesus was too busy to bless the children. Don t make the same mistake they made. Jesus always has time for people and that includes you. James said, Come near to God and He will come near to you. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Prayer: Lord, I know that You have rescued me from so many things. Help me to remember those times when I face new things. I know that You are always going to rescue me. I also know that You are always ready and willing to draw near to me when I draw near to You. Help me to do my part more often. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

29 Monday January 28 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 19:16-30 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:12, In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. I don t know of anyone who is claiming this verse for their lives but it is still true. When we are sold out to God there will be some who reject us. Look at what Jesus said in Matthew 5:10-12, Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Look at what Jesus said in Matthew 19:23-24, Then Jesus said to his disciples, I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. I know that you respect and accept everything Jesus said as the truth. Look at the reaction of the disciples in the very next verse. Matthew 19:25, When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, Who then can be saved? I don t think it would be a stretch for us to think that the disciples were thinking about whether or not they could be saved. Matthew 19:26, Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Thank God for verse 26! It would be impossible for us to save ourselves but with God all things are possible. Jesus became the Way of salvation for us. Thank God! Prayer: Lord, I want to live fully for You and I will not be distracted or deterred by what others think or do. Thank You for providing a Way for me to be saved. I know that I was totally and completely lost without You and I know that I am totally and completely saved with You. I love You! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

30 Tuesday January 29 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 20:1-16 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:12-13, In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. We are saved because we have accepted Jesus into our lives but some people are just getting worse and worse. They may oppose us and they might even persecute us but we are on the right track. Never quit. Matthew 20:1-2, For the Kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. I know you are aware of how this ends because I am sure you are doing your Scripture Readings every day but don t miss how Jesus started this parable. He was teaching us about His Kingdom. Here are a couple of things we can see. The Kingdom belongs to Jesus. We are called to live and work in the Kingdom and there are rewards for us. There may be some who don t live and work in the Kingdom as long as others but we all end up blessed. Some people were upset that this didn t seem fair. Let me be clear. None of us deserve the rewards we get because of the work we do. Ephesians 2:8-9, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that noone can boast. Look at 2 Corinthians 10:17. But, Let him who boasts boast in the Lord. The Kingdom belongs to Jesus. Let s only boast in Him and all that He has provided for us all. Prayer: Lord, I want to live for You and I am never going to quit. Thank You for never quitting on me. I am so thankful for being in Your Kingdom and I am thankful for all the benefits I have. Help me to always welcome others in. I know that everything good in my life comes from You and I only boast in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

31 Wednesday January 30 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 20:17-34 Praise the Lord! Paul had been talking about some people who were not living for Jesus and now he is back talking to us. 2 Timothy 3:14, But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it. We need to live like God wants and we need to continue no matter what happens around us. Believe me we are blessed to know how God wants us to live. What I am going to cover from Matthew goes right along with this. Matthew 20:29-30, As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us! These two blind men wanted to be healed and they were crying out to Jesus for help. This was a good decision and it is a good decision for us too. Matthew 20:31, The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us! Some of the crowd rebuked them but they didn t quit. May I say that was another good decision and it is a good decision for us to make too. Matthew 20:32-34, Jesus stopped and called them. What do you want me to do for you? he asked. Lord, they answered, we want our sight. Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. Jesus didn t rebuke them. He healed them. I sure want to stay in faith and have what Jesus has for me. Don t ever let the unbelieving crowd talk you out of God s best. Prayer: Lord, I know that living for You is always right. I am also thankful for the good friends You have given me that are living for Jesus too. I want to consistently bring my needs to You in faith and never quit. There may be some who don t understand but I am sold out to living for You and I am never going to quit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

32 Thursday January 31 Scripture Reading: Exodus Matthew 21:1-22 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 3:15, And how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. I don t know how long you have been living for Jesus but I am sure you have learned a lot and we all have more to learn. Thank God that we know about Salvation in Jesus. That is where we all start and now God keeps working in our lives. Matthew 21:12-14, Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the benches of those selling doves. It is written, he said to them, My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers. The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. Jesus got rid of things that were wrong, He told the people to pray more and then He healed them. God is doing these same things in our lives. Let s let Him do His good work. Look at Matthew 21:22, If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Isn t this a wonderful promise? Jesus is making that promise to you today. The more you know the Word the more you will know what God wants you to pray for and the more belief you will have. When those things are in line Jesus promises to answer our prayers. Romans 10:17 says, Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. Faith comes when we hear and believe the Word. Do you think that applies to this? If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Prayer: Lord, thank You for saving me and teaching me Your ways. I want to represent You well at all times. Thank You for cleansing me, for teaching me to pray and for healing me. Help me to believe more and to pray more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

33 Up and Coming Events BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS Every Wednesday morning at 7:30 AM the men meet for coffee and/or breakfast at Perkins and a time of fellowship.
