1 November 2018 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I want to commend you for being in God s Word as much as you have this year. I know that you are growing and that is great. Keep studying the Word and it will continue to help you. Your best days are ahead. God bless you as you study God s Word this month. Gladly in His Service, Dr. Jason B. Brittain

Thursday November 1 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Titus 2 Praise the Lord! We are going straight through 2 Timothy verse by verse and in this first paragraph and we are ready for 1 Timothy 5:21, I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism. Paul was writing to Timothy who was being raised up in the ministry. In this verse, Paul was telling Timothy to treat everyone the same. This was great advice for him and it is advice that we all should heed. In the book of Titus, Paul is writing to Titus and training him too. Look at Titus 2:1, You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Paul was sure sharing good things with these men. From time to time I have seen some young people going into the ministry with the attitude that they knew it all and didn t need to learn from anyone. Most of those people got into problems that they could have avoided if they had listened to the advice and council of others. Is there anything you can learn from their mistakes? Titus 2:11-12, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Thank God for His abundant grace. It is for all of us. Paul adds a very important aspect to our understanding of God s grace. His grace empowers us to say, No to ungodly things. God s grace helps us to say Yes to selfcontrolled, upright and godly lives in this age. In this age means God s grace should be doing all these things in your life right now. Prayer: Lord, help me to avoid favoritism towards people. I know that You love everyone and I should too. I am also thankful for the men and women You have brought into my life to help me. I want to stay open to their instructions and warnings. Empower me with Your Grace to say, No to sin and ungodliness. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Friday November 2 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Titus 3 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 5:22 says, Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. Paul was writing to Timothy so we know that he believed in raising others up into leadership but he makes the point that some people are raised up too quickly. Paul also tells us to live lives of purity. That sounds like good advice to me, how about you? Yesterday, I wrote to you about being open to advice and counsel. Many times that advice and counsel comes from the Word. Titus 3:1-2, Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no-one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility towards all men. If something didn t stick out to you as advice and counsel from those verses would you please reread them slowly and I think you will find God speaking something to you. Titus 3:10-11, Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is selfcondemned. People who spend too much time with divisive people often end up being drawn into their ways and that is not good. If you can help people then help them but if they start to draw you away from how God wants you to live then you need to spend less time with them. Have you seen other people who would have kept out of all kinds of problems if they had heeded this advice and counsel? Are these things also wise advice and counsel for you? Prayer: Lord, I want to live a life of purity. I also know that You want to use me more and I want to be willing to be prepared and not get ahead of Your perfect will. Help me stay open to advice and counsel from Godly people and help me to especially stay open to advice and counsel from Your Word. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Saturday November 3 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Philemon Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 5:23, Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. When I go straight through the Bible verse by verse I can t skip any verses. Evidently Timothy has some stomach problems and Paul told him that adding a little wine would help. Well, Paul said it and I have told you what Paul said so I have done my job here. Look at Philemon 1:6, I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. When we share our faith with others it will help us to understand every good thing we have in Christ. There is one more aspect to this process that is mentioned in this verse. When we actively share our faith these good things happen. When we are actively sharing our faith it means we do it more than once in a while. Look at Acts 1:8, But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit will empower us to be witnesses. Philemon 1:22, And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. Paul really believed that God answers prayer. We need to believe it too. Matthew 7:7-8, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Prayer: Lord, I love You so much and I am thankful for all of Your Word. Help me to do my best as I study it every day. I always want be active in sharing my faith. I know that we are all called to be witnesses and I want to do my part. Please fill me with the Holy Spirit and power. I want to represent You well all the time. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Sunday November 4 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 1 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 5:24, The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. All sins will be judged. You can be sure of this. The Good News is when we gave our lives to Jesus He bore the penalty of our sins. The punishment of our sins was placed on Jesus and He paid the penalty for us. We are so blessed to be saved! Let s live for Him. Hebrews 1:1-2, In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. In the Old Testament God spoke to His people in many and various ways but now He speaks to us through Jesus! Think about some of the differences. In the Old Testament there were times when God was not speaking to them and so they had to wait. We have Jesus with us all the time and He is always speaking to us. Look at John 10:27, My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. We are His sheep and He is always speaking to us and thank God we listen to His voice. Have you ever wondered what God wants to speak to you about? Everything! Hebrews 1:14, Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Are angels real? Yes. Do they help people? Yes. Who do they help? Believers and they even helped us before we were saved. They serve those who will inherit salvation. Weren t there times in your life before you were saved that you now know God was looking out for you? Prayer: Lord, thank You so much for saving me. Thank You, Jesus, for paying the price for my sins. Help me to live like a born-again, forgiven child of God. I am so thankful that You are always with me and speaking to me. Help me to know that You are also looking out for me all the time. I am not just lucky, I am protected and blessed. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Monday November 5 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 2 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 5:24-25, The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden. Just as all sins will be punished all good deeds will be rewarded. Galatians 6:9-10, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. I am sure every one of us would like to keep learning God s ways and I am sure we would like to be safe in our relationship with God. Well, there is a price that we all need to pay. Would you like to know that that price is? Hebrews 2:1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. We need to pay attention to God and the things He is teaching us. This really is serious. Look at the next couple verses. Hebrews 2:2-3, For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. Pay attention and don t ignore the salvation that God has provided for you. Hebrews 2:14-15, Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil-and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Jesus set us free from death and the fear of death. Prayer: Lord, I want to life fully for You and never quit. Help me to always pay attention to You and all that You are teaching me. I am never going to ignore You in any way. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Tuesday November 6 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 3 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:1, All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God s name and our teaching may not be slandered. Thank God that we don t live in slavery but we probably work for someone. We need to treat our bosses with respect. When we do we will be representing God and His good work in our lives well. Hebrews 3:12, See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. Paul sure seems to be giving lots of warnings about paying attention, not ignoring God and now not turning away from God. You see, all these things are very important. Let s live fully for Jesus and never stop! Now Paul tells us some things that we do need to do. Hebrews 3:13-14, But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. We should encourage each other. I want you to know that we do need to encourage each other and we need to accept the encouragement that others give us. We need to do these things as long as today is called today. Let me put it like Paul put it. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. We have all got a good start living for Jesus and we need to keep living for Him forever. Hold firm to the confidence that you had when you first started living for Him. Prayer: Lord, I want to represent You well all the time. Help me to be the most respectful worker at my job. I want others to know how a Christian should live by looking at my life. I also want to encourage others more often and I want to accept encouragement from others. I am never going to quit living for You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Wednesday November 7 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 4 Praise the Lord! Paul is talking about people s relationships and we are applying what he said to our work situations. 1 Timothy 6:2, Those who have believing masters are not to show less respect for them because they are brothers. Instead, they are to serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers, and dear to them. These are the things you are to teach and urge on them. We should be good employees if our bosses are saved and even if they aren t. You see, it is our salvation that matters not theirs. Hebrews 4:1, Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. In the Old Testament the Sabbath was a day of rest. God had set it aside for His people to rest from their labors. It was a picture of the rest we have in Jesus. In the Old Testament it was a day in Jesus we can rest all the time. They weren t supposed to work on that day. Look at Ephesians 2:8-9, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no-one can boast. We are saved by grace not by our works. Thank God that the things that were illustrated in the Old Testament are ours in fullness because of Jesus. Hebrews 4:9-11, There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no-one will fall by following their example of disobedience. We can and should rest in Jesus and His finished work for us. Prayer: Lord, I want to represent You well at all times. I am so thankful that You have saved me by grace and my works and efforts have nothing to do with it. I want to enter into and live in the rest that You have provided for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thursday November 8 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 5 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:3, If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching. Paul is going to have more to say about this in the next few verses but we can see that there were some people back then that were teaching false doctrines and there are still people doing that today. We need to know the truth of God s Word and we need to base our lives on it. Hebrews 5:7-9, During the days of Jesus life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him Jesus was a man of prayer and He was submitted to God in all things. He learned obedience, was made perfect and became the source of eternal salvation for us. Eternal salvation sure sounds good to me! How about you? Hebrews 5:11, We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. I hope this doesn t describe any of us. We want to be quick to learn. Hebrews 5:14, But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. We grow when we take what we have learned and put it into practice in our lives That is being trained in the ways of God. We should be able to distinguish between good things and evil things. The more we know the Word the better off we will always be. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for being able to study Your Word every day. Help me to be quick to learn everything You are showing me. I want to be mature and I want to use my maturity to help others. Thank You for giving me Eternal salvation. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Friday November 9 Scripture Reading: Jeremiah Hebrews 6 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:4 is talking about false teachers and it says, He is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions If you know of anyone who fits into these descriptions don t have anything to do with them. Let people who teach the Word and who help others be your friends and teachers. Hebrews 6:1-3, Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so. Paul was encouraging them to keep growing in the Lord. I am sure we all have more growing to do and so I encourage you to keep growing in the Lord. Do what God is speaking to you and you will be on the right track. Hebrews 6:11-12, We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. We need Faith and Patience. Thank God that our Faith will be strengthened as we know the Word and do what it says. Patience is even a fruit of the Spirit. As we stay full of the Spirit and operate in the patience we have God will help us to grow in that area too. So, let s go on to maturity. In Jesus. Prayer: Lord, help me to know if there are people I should not be spending so much time with. I also want to be a person who helps those who spend time with me. I want to keep growing in You. Help me to have Faith and Patience. I want to inherit all that You have promised me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Saturday November 10 Scripture Reading: Lamentations 1-2 Hebrews 7 Praise the Lord! Paul tells us more about false teachers. 1 Timothy 6:4-5. He is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. These people are only in it for the money. We all need finances but God is our source. These people manipulate others in ways that are not right. There were many priests in the Old Testament and they were a picture of Jesus Who would come and be the true High Priest from God. Hebrews 7:23, Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; There were some good priests in the Old Testament and there were some bad priests but they all had one thing in common. They all died and their priesthood ended. Hebrews 7:24, But because Jesus lives for ever, he has a permanent priesthood. Jesus died and was raised from the dead and He lives forever. So, His priesthood is permanent. He will never be replaced. Hebrews 7:25, Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. This is a wonderful verse. Because Jesus lives forever He is able to save us completely! He is able to save us completely because He is not only alive forever He is also praying for us. Thank God we have given our lives to Jesus. Prayer: Lord, thank You for the men and women You have brought into my life to teach me about You. I don t ever want to settle for anything less than Your best. Teach me more about my complete salvation and thank You for praying for me. I know that I am going to make it because of You and Your prayers. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Sunday November 11 Scripture Reading: Lamentations 3-5 Hebrews 8 Praise the Lord! Look at what Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:6, But godliness with contentment is great gain. Paul was making a comparison between some false teachers who were only out to get people s money and how we should live. We should be content with what God has given us. We need to be faithful and then He will give us more because He loves us and He wants to bless us as His children just like we want to bless our children. Hebrews 8:1-2. The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. Jesus is our High Priest and He is seated on the throne of God in Heaven. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. Thank God that His priesthood lasts forever. Hebrews 8:6, But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. The covenant we have in Jesus is way better than the old covenant. It is based on better promises. Look at 2 Corinthians 1:20, For no matter how many promises God has made, they are Yes in Christ. And so through him the Amen is spoken by us to the glory of God. All of God s promises find their Yes for us in Jesus. Look at this wonderful promise. Hebrews 8:12, For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. That is a wonderful promise and it is Yes for you because you have given your life to Jesus and you are now in Him. Prayer: Lord, I want to be content in You and I want to keep growing in You and progressing at the same time. Thank You for all the promises I have in You. I am so thankful that I have given my life to You. Thank You for forgiving all my sins. Help me to represent You well in all things. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Monday November 12 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 1-3 Hebrews 9 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:6-7, But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. Let s be content in Jesus. I am sure you know of some people who never seem to be content. That can be such a stressful way to live. God has a better life for you. Believe that God wants to meet all your needs and trust Him. Then be content. Hebrews 9 is talking about the sacrifice Jesus made for the sins of mankind. Look at Hebrews 9:26, Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Jesus sacrifice was great enough. No other sacrifice will ever be needed. He paid it all for all time. Hebrews 9:28, So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Jesus is coming again. He is not coming to bear our sins because He already did that. He is coming to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. You see, there are some people who have not accepted Jesus sacrifice for their sins and they will be eternally lost if they don t accept Him. Thank God that we have accepted the truth of the Gospel and we are born again. Ephesians 2:8-9, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no-one can boast. Jesus paid it all! Prayer: Lord, I know that You promise to meet all my needs and I choose to be content with what You are providing for me right now. Help me to be faithful. I also thank You for paying the price for all my sins. I know that giving my life to You was the best decision I ever made. Thank You for Your grace. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Tuesday November 13 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 4-6 Hebrews 10:1-23 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:6-8, But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. What a wonderful way to live. Paul is saying that he lived this way and it is surely a great example of how we should live. Look at Hebrews 10:3, But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. In the Old Testament animals were sacrificed for the sins of the people and they had to be offered over and over. You see, those sacrifices were not good enough to pay for their sins. So because they happened over and over they actually became a reminder of the people s sins. Jesus was perfect and sinless so when He died for our sins they were paid in full once and for all. Hebrews 10:10, And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Our sins have been paid for once and for all. Now look at Hebrews 10:19, Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus. We can how enter into God s presence because our sins have been paid for completely and for all time. There are people who are trying to pay for their own sins and they won t be able to. There are other people who are trying to make some sacrifice for their sins and they will always fail as well. There is only one sacrifice. There is only one way to the Father. John 14:6, Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. Noone comes to the Father except through me. Prayer: Lord, I am seeing that being content in You is a good way to live. Help me to know how to apply this truth to my life. I am also so thankful that You died on the cross for my sins once and for all. I know that You are the only way to the Father and I am so thankful that I am saved and forgiven by You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Wednesday November 14 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 7-9 Hebrews 10:24-39 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:9, People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. God wants to bless you and He even wants to prosper you but being rich can t be the most important thing in our lives. We need to seek Jesus and His Kingdom first and then He will help us with the other things in our lives. Being content is an attitude that some people miss. Hebrews 10:25, Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Are you learning from God and being encouraged by these devotions? Well then help other people to know Him and encourage them in any way you can. We should always be doing these good things. Encourage others and accept encouragement from others when they give it to you. Both parts of encouragement are important. Don t miss out on giving encouragement and in receiving encouragement. Hebrews 10:35-36, So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Do you have some confidence in God and His Word? Well don t ever throw your confidence away. There is a reward coming so don t quit. I am sure that God has made many promises to you and He will keep His promises. Don t give up. This verse tells us to persevere and you will receive what God has promised. Wouldn t it be sad if someone quit right before they were going to get what God had promised them? Prayer: Lord, I want to be content and I want to seek You and Your Kingdom first and foremost in my life. Help me to know if I am allowing other things to be too important and help me to seek You first. I also thank You for all the promises You have given me. I am going to live for You and I am never going to quit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thursday November 15 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Hebrews 11:1-19 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:10, For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Please notice that Paul didn t say that money is the root of all evils. We need money to live and God even wants us to have money so we can bless others. Paul said the love of money was the root of all evils. We should love God and use money. We should love people and not money. Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Faith is being sure... Another version says that Faith is the title deed... Or Faith is the assurance of... This verse also says that faith is being certain of what we do not see. Look at 2 Corinthians 4:18, So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Things that are seen are temporary and changeable. The things of God are often unseen and they are eternal and unchangeable. Hebrews 11:6 says, And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. We need to be people of faith. When we are people of faith we are able to please God. We need to believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. When we believe these things in faith we will live by faith and we will earnestly seek Him. Praise the Lord that He has shown us these things. Let s do them. Prayer: Lord, I love You and not money. I want to serve You and have money serve me and the things that You want me to do. Help me live these things out. I also thank You for teaching me about faith. I want to be a person of faith. I believe You exist and I believe that You reward those who earnestly seek You. Help me to earnestly seek You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Friday November 16 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Hebrews 11:20-40 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:11, But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. All of us as God s people should flee from things that distract us from God and we should pursue things that are in line with His will. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. That s a pretty good list. Hebrews 11:29, By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. God s people had faith in God and they walked through the Red Sea on dry land. The Egyptians didn t have faith and they drowned in the same Red Sea. That sure makes me want to be a person of faith. How about you? You may have to go through some things but thank God that we can go through them in faith. Hebrews 11:31, By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. By faith Rahab was saved when others who didn t have faith were killed. Hebrews 11:39-40, These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. All these people in Hebrews 11 were commended for their faith but they weren t able to receive all that God had for them. We have Jesus and we have all that God has for us in Him. We have something better than they had. We have Jesus and we even have better promises in Him. Prayer: Lord, I don t ever want to do anything that You tell me to flee from. I want to pursue You and Your ways for my life. Help me to live by faith in every area of my life. I know that is the best way to live and I can see that it is the safest way to live too. Thank You Jesus for saving me and keeping me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Saturday November 17 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 16 Hebrews 12 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:12, Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. Paul refers to fighting the good fight. Do you know what makes a fight a good fight? Winning. God gives us faith and we can win the fight of faith with His help. The benefits of winning is eternal life. That sounds like a fight that I want to win. Hebrews 12:1, Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. I like the terminology here. Let us throw off anything and everything that holds us back from living fully for Jesus. Don t debate and don t delay. Throw off those things. Would you like to know something that will help you to throw off those things? Hebrews 12:2, Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Fix your eyes on Jesus and keep following Him and it will help you to throw off those things that should go. Hebrews 12:14-15, Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no-one will see the Lord. See to it that no-one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Live at peace with people and don t let bitterness take root in your life. Prayer: Lord, I want to fight the good fight of faith and I want to win. Thank You for always being with me and always helping me to have victory. I want to throw off anything and everything that holds me back from following You and living fully for You. Help me to live at peace with others and to avoid all bitterness. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Sunday November 18 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Hebrews 13 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:13, In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you. Paul is going to speak a challenge to us but first he wants us to remember Jesus and all that He has done for us. You see, Jesus is our example of how to live. Hebrews 13:15, Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. We should praise God continually. I know this is easier to do it at times than it may be at other times but we still need to Praise God continually. Paul said it might be a sacrifice but we can Praise God continually through Jesus. Hebrews 13:16, And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Paul also tells us not to forget to do good and to share with others. These things are also called a sacrifice and Paul tells us that God is pleased when we do them. You do want to please God don t you? Hebrews 13:20-21, May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. May the peace of God equip you with everything good for doing God s will. Believe that God is doing that for you. He will help us to do His will and to do what is pleasing to Him. We are so blessed to have God working in our lives. Prayer: Lord, thank You, Jesus, for all that You have done for me. I know that You were always obedient to God and I want to learn from Your example. I want to praise You more and I always want to live like You want. Empower me to always do Your will and to please You in everything I do. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Monday November 19 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel James 1 Praise the Lord! Paul is now speaking a challenge to Timothy and to us. 1 Timothy 6:14, To keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul isn t just talking about us living for God a little bit. He isn t talking about us doing just enough to get by. He is encouraging us to live without spot or blame until Jesus comes again. I know this is a very high standard but may I encourage you to aim higher and you will do better. James 1:5, If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. This is an amazing promise. Do you believe it? Do you ask for wisdom like you really believe it? Let s ask for wisdom and believe. Lord, please give us some wisdom today. James 1:2-4, Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. We need to have this attitude. God can and will use everything in our lives when we keep learning what He is teaching us. We can even learn from the hard things we go through. We can learn faith and perseverance. We can come to a place where we are mature, complete and not lacking anything. Do you know what we lack the most? The next verse is James 1:5, If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. Prayer: Lord, please give me wisdom continually. Help me to grow in You continually. I want to have faith and perseverance. I am never going to quit asking You for wisdom. Help me to know that You are answering my prayer for wisdom today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Tuesday November 20 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel James 2 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:15, Which God will bring about in his own time--god, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords. God is working and He has timing in what He does. He is the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords. Our part is to keep learning, trust Him and know that He is going to get His will done. The more we know Him and His Word the more we will be able to recognize Him working. Have you been asking God for wisdom or did you forget what we talked about yesterday? James 2:8, If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, Love your neighbour as yourself, you are doing right. We need to love people right? Well, we really need to love everyone. James 2:9, But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as law-breakers. That is loving everyone. James 2:23-24, And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. Abraham believed God and it was the basis for his righteousness. Do you believe God and have you given your life to Him? If so, then you have been made the righteousness of God just like Abraham. Abraham was called God s friend. Look at what Jesus said in John 15:15, I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. Jesus calls you His friend. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for Your good work in my life. I love You. Help me to love others with no favoritism. I know that You call me Your friend and I know that You have made me the righteousness of God because I am in You. Please continue to give me wisdom about these wonderful Scriptures. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Wednesday November 21 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel James 3 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:16 is talking about God and it says, Who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no-one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might for ever. Amen. All honor and glory goes to God. Amen. We can approach God because Jesus died for our sins and He has made us Children of God. Hebrews 4:16 says, Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. James 3:1, Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. If I believe something wrong it is a bad deal but really it only affects me. If I teach others what is wrong then the problem is greater. So, those who teach need to make sure they know what is right and they need to make sure they are teaching others what is right. James 3:2, We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. This applies to us all. When we come to the place where we speak things that line up with the Word that discipline will have a good effect on every area of our lives. James 3:17-18, But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. God s wisdom is all the good things described in this verse. Don t settle for less than God s wisdom! Prayer: Lord, thank You for making me new when I gave my life to You. Help me to know that I can approach You with confidence because of Jesus and all that You have done for me. Please continue to teach me Your truth and help me to speak words of life and encouragement in line with You and Your ways. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thursday November 22 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel James 4 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:17, Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. God isn t against your being blessed. Just make sure you keep your hope in God and not in money or anything else. All those other things are uncertain. Keep your hope in God. He is always the same and He will never leave you or let you down. James 4:7, Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. We should resist the devil. Sometimes people don t quite know how to do that. Here is a key. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil. A vital part of resisting the devil is staying submitted to God. There are a lot of things I could say about this but consider this for today. When you are submitted to God you won t do things that open your life up to the devil. Look at the next verse. James 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Come near to God and stay there. That is how you should live because it is right and it will help you in every area of your life. James 4:17, Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn t do it, sins. Some people would define sin as doing something bad and they are right but there is more. It is also when a person knows something good and then they fail to do it. God wants you to avoid doing bad things AND He wants you to actively do the good things that He has for you to do. Prayer: Lord, I want to put and keep my hope in You and You alone. I know that You are always with me and I know that You will always help me. I want to resist the devil, to come to You, to stay close to You and I want to do all that You want me to do. Thank You for making things clear to me. Help me to be a doer of Your Word today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Friday November 23 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel James 5 Praise the Lord! I want to spend some more time on the verse we looked at yesterday. 1 Timothy 6:17, Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. God wants to provide you with everything for your enjoyment. Isn t that a wonderful promise? Keep your hope in Him and not the stuff He provides for you. Have you ever had to wait for something from the Lord? I am sure we all have. James 5:10-11, Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. You are not the only one who has had to wait. The prophets had to wait and Job had to wait. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. He came through for them and He will come through for you. Be patient. Your blessings are coming. James 5:12, Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your Yes be yes, and your No, no, or you will be condemned. We need to be people of our word. When we say Yes, we will do something we need to do it. If we say, No people need to know that our no means no. When we are people who always speak the truth then people will believe us when we tell them about Jesus and His goodness. Prayer: Lord, my hope and confidence is in You and You alone. Help me to know and receive Your blessings without being distracted from You. I want to be a person of my word all the time. Help my Yes to mean Yes and my No to mean No. I am never going to quit trusting You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Saturday November 24 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 1 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:18, Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. We should be rich in good deeds. Isn t that a great statement? When most people think about being rich I am sure not many think of being rich in good deeds but that is how we should live. How do we do that? Well, be generous and be willing to share what you have with others. The people in the Old Testament weren t able to understand many of the things we know about in Jesus. 1 Peter 1:10-11, Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. They knew that the Messiah (Jesus) was coming and they tried to figure out more about it. Thank God that we know Jesus and what He has done for us on the cross and through His resurrection. 1 Peter 1:12, It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. We know more about what Jesus did for us because God has raised up men and women to preach the Good News to us. We are so blessed. Keep learning and believe everything God teaches you. Prayer: Lord, I want to be rich in good deeds. Help me to be generous and help me to share with others. I know that Your blessings are given to me so I can do these things. Thank You for all that You have done for me. Help me to know more and help me to live more fully for You. I love You! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Sunday November 25 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 2 Praise the Lord! Paul had just written about our need to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and to share with others. 1 Timothy 6:19, In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. When we live like Jesus wants we will be laying up treasures that will help us. We will have a firm foundation in this life and in the life to come. We will have life that is truly life. 1 Peter 2:1-3, Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. Get rid of those bad things (and anything else bad in your life) and crave the Word. It will help you to grow up in the Lord. Haven t you tasted and seen that God is good? 1 Peter 2:24-25, He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Jesus took the punishment of our sins in His body so He could provide healing for us. Thank God! Don t miss out on anything He has provided for you. He paid a great price for you to have what He has for you. He also opened the way for us to return to God. Stay close to Him. Returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Psalms 23:1 says, The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Prayer: Lord, I want to live like You want. Thank You for helping me to know how to have a firm foundation in my life. I want to lay hold of the life that is truly life. Help me to crave Your Word more. I am also thankful for the healing, the guidance and the protection that You have provided for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Monday November 26 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 3 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:20, Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge. Have you ever known someone who was always wasting time with godless chatter and arguing about all kinds of unimportant things? Well, this verse tells us to turn away from such things. This is really good advice. 1 Peter 3:9, Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. How do you handle it when someone insults you? We should bless them. I know this may not be what we want to do in the natural but it is what we should do. Look at why we should do this. Because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. You should bless others because you were called to inherit a blessing. What you sow (blessings) is what you will reap (blessings). 1 Peter 3:10-12, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. There are three things in these verses that I want to make sure you get today. Speak words of life, do good and seek peace. These things would be a pretty good to do list for you today and everyday. Amen? Prayer: Lord, help me to turn away from godless chatter. I want to speak the truth more and I know that will help me to live better. I also want to bless others more. Help me to speak words of life, to do good and to seek peace today. If I start to forget these things please remind me and help me to get back on track. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Tuesday November 27 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 4 Praise the Lord! 1 Timothy 6:20-21, Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you. We don t ever want to wander from the faith. Let s stay close to Jesus and thank Him continually for His grace. 1 Peter 4:7, The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. The Word tells us that the end is near and so I believe it. Some people who believe the end is near get into all kinds of things and some of them are strange. The Word tells us the end is near and it tells us the kind of things we should be doing. We should be clear minded, selfcontrolled and praying. Doing those things will prepare you for the end better than some of the other things that some people do. 1 Peter 4:11, If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. Here are some more things God talks to us about doing. The first one says if you speak you should speak like God would want you to speak. I was around someone a couple of months ago who was definitely not speaking like God would be pleased with. I kept speaking positively (and with no cussing) and after a little bit he adapted to me and started speaking better too. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for Your grace. Help me to stay close to You at all times and help my life to represent You well. I want to be clear minded, self-controlled and I want to pray more. Help me to remember these things and to do them more and more. I also want to talk like a Christian should. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Wednesday November 28 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 40 1 Peter 5 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 1:1, Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus. Paul knew that he was an apostle because it was God s will. I hope you are the person God wants you to be too. Believe me living in line with God s will is always best. God promises us life and life in abundance and we find all that He has for us when we are in His will. 1 Peter 5:5, Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility towards one another, because, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. God opposes the proud and He gives grace to the humble. Can you guess who ends up with more of God s favor? In case you don t know it is those who are humble and dependent upon Him rather than their own strength and effort. We do have an enemy and God helps us to know how to position ourselves to defeat him. 1 Peter 5:8, Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. The devil is real and he is our enemy. 1 Peter 5:9, Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. We need to resist the devil and not give an inch to him in our lives. The verse right before these gives us some great help in knowing how to resist the devil. 1 Peter 5:7, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. God cares for you. When you know this and continually cast your cares on Him you will find His help to resist the devil. Prayer: Lord, help me to know Your will for my life and help me to live right in the center of Your will. I want all the life and life in abundance You have for me. Help me to resist the devil and help me to always cast my cares on You because I know that You care for me. Thank You for saving and for keeping me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Thursday November 29 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 1 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 1:2, To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Paul referred to Timothy as his dear son and he spoke words of life to him. Would you like to have someone speak some words of life to you today? Ok. I speak grace, mercy and peace from God the father and Christ Jesus our Lord over you right now. Do you receive those things? Look at 2 Peter 1:3, His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. What if we really believed this? God s divine power has already given us everything we need for life and godliness. If we believed that I am sure we would be more thankful and I think we would come to the conclusion that we should be doing better in life. This verse also says that He gives us these things through our knowledge of Him. You see, the more we learn from Him and the Word the more we will be able to live in the wonderful things He has already provided for us. The very next verse says, 2 Peter 1:4, Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. We should be participating in His divine nature and overcoming the corruption of this world. This is talking about living and experiencing victory in Jesus. I want to ask you again, what if we really believe these promises? Prayer: Lord, I believe Your Word and I accept what You are saying to me today. I accept grace, mercy and peace from You. I also choose to believe that You have given me all that I need for life and godliness. Please continue to teach me Your ways and help me to live like You want with Your help. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Friday November 30 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel Peter 2 Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 1:3, I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Paul was thankful. We should be the most thankful people around. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. We are to give thanks in ALL circumstances and ALL means ALL. You may be going through something hard but we can and should still be thankful for Jesus and His good work in our lives. Peter is writing to us about false teachers and how they are going to end up. 2 Peter 2:17, These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. That sounds serious and it is. They were leading people astray and that is really bad. 2 Peter 2:19 says, They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. They were slaves of depravity. We should only serve Jesus and He will only bring purity and good things into our lives. 2 Peter 2:20, If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. These things are not going to happen in our lives because we are staying close to Jesus and we are certainly never going to turn away from Him. Thank God for the life and life in abundance He has provided for us. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for You and Your good work in my life. I know that I can and should give thanks to You all the time. I am so thankful that You have saved me from this world and ungodliness. I am going to stay close to You and live for You forever. Thank You that You never leave me and that You are helping me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
