The Apostle Peter Brother of Andrew Married - Matthew 8:14-15 NIV He was Left Handed Also Called Simon or Simon Peter

The Calling of Peter Luke 5:3-11 NIV 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. 5 Simon answered, Master, we ve worked hard all night and haven t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, Don t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people. 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! Don t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.

Jesus Calms the Storm Matthew 8:23-27 NIV 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, Lord, save us! We re going to drown! 26 He replied, You of little faith, why are you so afraid? Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!

Peter Walks on Water (Almost) Matthew 14:22-31 NIV 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. It s a ghost, they said, and cried out in fear.27 But Jesus immediately said to them: Take courage! It is I. Don t be afraid. 28 Lord, if it s you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. 29 Come, he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me! 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith, he said, why did you doubt?

Peter s Confession that Jesus is the Son of God Matthew 16:13-19 NIV 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man is? 14 They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15 But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? 16 Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. 17 Jesus replied, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Peter Rebuked for Rebuking Matthew 16: Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. Never, Lord! he said. This shall never happen to you! 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.

The Transfiguration Matthew 17:1-8 NIV After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.4 Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. Get up, he said. Don t be afraid. 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

Jesus Repeatedly Engages With Peter Jesus anointed by a Sinful woman. The Temple Tax Forgiveness The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman Luke 7:39 NIV 39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is that she is a sinner. 40 Jesus answered him, Simon, I have something to tell you. Tell me, teacher, he said.41 Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more? 43 Simon replied, I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven. You have judged correctly, Jesus said.44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little. 48 Then Jesus said to her, Your sins are forgiven. 49 The other guests began to say among themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins? 50 Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

The Temple Tax Matthew 17:24-27 NIV 24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the twodrachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, Doesn t your teacher pay the temple tax? 25 Yes, he does, he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. What do you think, Simon? he asked. From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes from their own children or from others? 26 From others, Peter answered. Then the children are exempt, Jesus said to him. 27 But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.

Parable of the Unmerciful Servant Matthew 18:21-22 NIV 21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, Lord, how many times Up to seven times? shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? 22 Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Jesus Predicts Peter s Denial Mark 14:27-31 NIV 27 You will all fall away, Jesus told them, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. 28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee. 29 Peter declared, Even if all fall away, I will not. 30 Truly I tell you, Jesus answered, today yes, tonight before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times. 31 But Peter insisted emphatically, Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you. And all the others said the same.

Peter Attacks the High Priest's Servant John 18:2-11 NIV 8 Jesus answered, I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go. 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: I have not lost one of those you gave me. 10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant s name was Malchus.) 11 Jesus commanded Peter, Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?

Peter Denies Jesus Three Times Mark 14:66-72 NIV 66 While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him. You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus, she said. 68 But he denied it. I don t know or understand what you re talking about, he said, and went out into the entryway. 69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, This fellow is one of them. 70 Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean. 71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, I don t know this man you re talking about. 72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times. And he broke down and wept.

Peter is Reinstated John 21:15-19 NIV 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? Yes, Lord, he said, you know that I love you. Jesus said, Feed my lambs. 16 Again Jesus said, Simon son of John, do you love me? He answered, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said, Take care of my sheep. 17 The third time he said to him, Simon son of John, do you love me? Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, Do you love me? He said, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus said, Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go. 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, Follow me!

Peter, Jealous of John John 21:20-22 NIV 20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, Lord, who is going to betray you? ) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, Lord, what about him? 22 Jesus answered, If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.
