1 ST. CHARLES AVENUE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH January 4, :30 worship 2nd Sunday after Christmas Day

2 St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church January 4, :30 worship Welcome to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church and Happy New Year! We are glad you are here as together we begin a new year by worshipping God and singing praises to his holy name. GATHERING WELCOME Philip L. Stagg VOLUNTARY Steven B. Blackmon ANNOUNCEMENTS *CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) from Psalm 146 Matt Guy Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; who grants justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord! *prayer OF THE DAY *HYMN Great God, We Sing That Mighty Hand wareham Great God, we sing that mighty hand by which supported still we stand; The opening year your mercy shows; that mercy crowns it till it close. With grateful hearts the past we own; the future, all to us unknown, We to your guardian care commit, and peaceful leave before your feet. In scenes exalted or depressed, you are our joy, and you our rest; Your goodness all our hopes shall raise, adored through all our changing days. CALL TO CONFESSION Philip L. Stagg With sincere and repentant hearts, let us name our sins against Christ and one another. PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Lord Jesus, Judge of the nations: we confess the times when have not seen your face among our neighbors in need. Too often we have not shared food, clothing or shelter with the destitute. In our neglect, our sin, we have failed to serve you. Lord, forgive us; open our eyes to recognize your beloved family, and give us the blessing of sincere repentance with you and all the saints in this world, and in the world to come. SILENT CONFESSION KYRIE DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS (responsive) Brothers and sisters, God seeks the lost sheep and feeds them with justice. Forgiven and freed, turn, then, and live in Christ, our Lord. Amen. *Please stand as you are able. Please silence cell phones during the worship service.

SCaPC S vision Statement Holy worship is central to our life as Christ s disciples, sustaining us, shaping us, and sending us out into the world. As we continue to grow in membership and giving, we will nurture a greater sense of inclusiveness and belonging within the congregation. We will actively encourage increased involvement in the ministries of the church. We will broaden and strengthen our lay leadership. We will be intentional in our spirituality, relying on the power of prayer to direct us. We will be a mission church, reaching out, in the name of Jesus Christ, to both the local and the global community.
