2 MISSION STATEMENT: The purpose of Christ the King is to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people and to make them disciples of Jesus. Welcome: We are pleased that you are here to join us in worship today. We pray that our time together in God s word assures you that you are loved by God and your sins are forgiven because of Jesus Christ s life, death, and resurrection. If you are visiting with us today and we can be of any assistance to you, please let us know. Record of Attendance: We ask that all who are worshipping with us today would honor us by giving us a record of your attendance. Please fill out the blue card and then hand it to the center aisle. Prayer Request: If you have any prayer requests, please place them on an attendance card. If you would like your request included in the prayers today, please inform one of the ushers and they will inform Pastor. Children are always welcome in the worship service. At Christ the King we believe that it is important for the whole family to worship together whenever possible. In order to assist you and for your comfort, we have a room just off the sanctuary that has a one-way glass, and we also have a nursery. If one of these areas would be helpful to you the usher will be happy to assist you. Altar flowers are given to the Glory of God by Terry and Wendy Conway in memory of their parents. Order of Worship: Creative Worship As We Gather: On Thanksgiving, most Americans are thankful for God s gift of a table overflowing with special foods, not to mention the family gathered there or the parades and football games filling the rest

3 of the day. But when we gather together around God s Word coming through our ears in the Readings and sermon and through our mouths in the Lord s Supper our thanksgiving is for more. God has both given us our daily bread and has also forgiven us our trespasses. Our heavenly Father has given us His Son, the Word made flesh. Our Thanksgiving has no end. OPENING SENTENCES (Philippians 4:6 7) Leader: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. People: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

5 CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION (Philippians 4:8, 19) Leader: Although we are anxious about many things, God s peace comes to us daily. Let us confess our sins, trusting that for Jesus sake our heavenly Father will guard our hearts and minds with His peace. (Silence for reflection on the Word of God and our sinful condition.) Leader: Brothers and sisters, in today s Epistle, Paul urges, Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. People: We confess that we have spoken lies, dishonored God s name, judged people on sight, adopted society s impure values, failed to tend to God s good creation, and forgotten to thank Him for providing all we need from day to day. Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who did all things well and to whom alone belongs all the praise, we ask You to forgive what is past, graciously strengthen us for this day, and by Your indwelling Spirit move our feet to walk in ways pleasing to You. Leader: Paul was inspired to promise, God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Our heavenly Father does indeed supply your deepest need. In the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Thanks be to God.

Almighty God, Your mercies are new every morning and You graciously provide for all our needs of body and soul. People: Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your goodness, give thanks for Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience all our days; Leader: through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. OLD TESTAMENT READING Deuteronomy 8:1 10 (In the good land, remember God s fatherly care.) 1 The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers. 2 And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. 4 Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you. 6 So you shall
