Bible Classes Sunday 9:10am Pastor Narring leads the Bible study in the Sanctuary between the services. Topics will vary each Sunday. Monday 10:30am Women in the Bible led by Dr. Mary Hilgendorf. New topics are discussed each week. The last day of class will be March 19. Thursday 10:30am All are invited to study the book of Job with retired pastor, Clyde Kaminska. 1

2 Wandering Editor s Note Sometimes things seem upside down...ash Wednesday was on Valentine s Day, February in Florida was like summer while up north was bitter cold, and now Easter is on April Fool s day. Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. No matter what, God is in control. Praise God, from whom all blessing things flow. (LSB 805) We encourage you to find ways in which to serve Him during March. Naomi Weslock Editor Board of Fellowship The first Lenten supper on February 21 was well-attended (69 people) and was provided by the Fellowship Board. Debbie Worthington, with assistance by Roberta Misener, made the sloppy joes. All the desserts were homemade by the Fellowship committee members. The second Lenten supper was also well-attended and was provided by our Board of Education committee. Everyone enjoyed the ham and cheese sandwiches that were made by the committee. Thanks to all! We will follow the prescribed agenda and also will ratify the new constitution that our Board of Directors have already approved. Please plan to attend. 3

4 Board of Missions Please read this very important message from our Board of Missions Chairperson... Can you please help me? I am looking for several people to help me on the Board of Missions. What is needed? I need help me with the following... I need some help in making decisions about our mission projects. I really need someone to take used cell phones to Robertson s Funeral Home on Marion Road. Could someone pack and send-out the boxes of our donated articles to our servicemen? Thank you for all of your donations of items for the servicemen, for the children s school supplies, the used cell phones, and the groceries that go to the Salvation Army each month. Please do not donate small hotel sized shampoos, lotions, soaps etc. The military chaplains do not want these - they are not needed and must be sorted and thrown away from the other articles sent. Support the local schools in our area by: Joanna Waterman Collecting Boxtop$ for Education. They are used at the schools to receive money and then use it as needed. These are found on General foods products: Yoplait yogurt, ziplock bags and many more products. Collecting pull tabs from pop or beer cans. They can be turned in and the schools send them on to Ronald McDonald House. There is a basket below the military collection basket in the narthex to place your contributions. Ellen Jodway will take the items to various schools while she is here in the winter months. 4

5 Save the Date!!! Wednesday March 7 th 6:30 pm at Faith Lutheran Church Punta Gorda! We are once again blessed to host The Sound in concert on Wednesday, March 7 th at 6:30pm! These wonderful Christian musicians will join us for a lively hour-long show of old-time favorites, sing-alongs, and more. Come early and enjoy a half-hour of Praise and Worship from 6-6:30pm (seating is limited to the first 300 people) Bring your friends and stay after for coffee and dessert! 6 2018 Flea Market A Huge Success! We are so thankful for everyone who... Donated Items FLEA MARKET Purchased Items In Any Way Helped Support This Mission-focused Event! The March 2 & 3 event netted just over $2,000! However, Arlene Wells and Ellen Jodway both remarked that more importantly it was a great time of fellowship for everyone all week. Arlene shared, We all had so much fun together! Our LWML will soon select and share their 18 Mission recipients. An invitation! Everyone is invited to attend the annual Airing of the Quilts. This popular event will be held on Saturday, March 10th from 10-1pm at Shell Creek RV Park, Washington Loop Road in Punta Gorda. Food and drinks will be available to purchase. Following the airing, the quilt tops will be given to Faith LWML quilting group for completion. This year, on February 7th, 64 quilts were taken to Bradenton, FL for further shipment with Lutheran World Relief (to be used as needed world-wide). The quilts are packed and shipped every year at the beginning of February. Locally, 24 quilts were given for the season of quilting. If anyone would like to help, please join us Tuesdays from 9 to 12 ish assembling, sewing, and tying knots for these quilts. Without the help of the Shell Creek RV Resort Quilters, who assemble our tops, we would not be so successful in blessing others. 7 Board of Education Luther s Small Catechism has been totally revised/updated and now it reflects the many current issues that we and our society face. The focus is still the same - teaching God s people through a series of questions/answers that focus on the Ten Commandments, Baptism, The Lord s Prayer, The Creeds, The Lord s Supper, and the Office of the Keys. This edition provides a thorough and understandable scriptural foundation which will help believers understand and faithfully apply God s Word in their lives. An order form is on the Narthex table. Please place your payment of $14.49 in an envelope marked Luther s Small Catechism and drop it off in the church office... Or, place it in the offering plate by March 25th. Thank you! Please contact Joyce Jandola if you have questions Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World March 21st at 6:30pm If you have not viewed the most recent Luther movie Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World, we will once again show this PBS film in the sanctuary following the last mid-week worship service. Refreshments will be served. The film follows the dramatic story of Martin Luther's life: the massive lightning storm that nearly killed him, the bleak self-punishment of his time in the monastery, the corruption that unleashed his anger, his trial before the most powerful man in Europe, and the staged kidnapping that helped him escape the death penalty. The film is narrated by Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey") and stars Padraic Delany ("The Tudors," "The Man Who Knew Infinity"). That evening, Rev. Dr. Jack Miller will also conclude our mid-week series on What s it all about? as he preaches about denial. Join us for this wonderful evening! 7
