Post Bazaar meeting in St. Andrews Room On Saturday, November 24th at 7:30pm Arcady s seasonal production There s a Song in the Air: A Timeless Holiday Classic will be presented at St. Andrew s United Church (95 Darling St.) in Brantford. This entertaining and upbeat production will feature new and traditional holiday music written and arranged by Arcady's artistic director Ronald Beckett. Beckett s holiday music will leave an unforgettable impression on first hearing. There s a Song in the Air is designed to take the listener on a colourful winter journey and conjure up thoughts and memories of the Christmas season. The concert will be performed by some of the finest singers Canada has to offer. A highlight of the show is always the humorous short dramas centred around Lanny Fleming and Greg Walshaw. Arcady also looks forward to involving local youth singers in this family friendly production. This heartwarming performance promises to leave everyone full of Christmas cheer. 4 Welcome! Again we are pleased that you could be in worship this morning, as it is our hope, together, that everyone will find joy, peace, and community here. A time of sharing, with light refreshments, takes place in the church hall following the worship service. Today s fellowship time is hosted by members of Session. We assist your worshipping experience by providing a nursery for young children. (Carolyn Stratford has graciously offered to care for our children); by reserving two parking spots in the southwest corner of the City Hall Parking Lot for Stork Parking - (for infants and their parents or expectant mothers). We also make available Words only editions of the hymn book (available in the narthex). We also supply individual hearing devices to supplement the sound system; and, we reserve shortened pews for the use of physically-challenged persons and their families. Ushers this morning are Cathie & Bruce Trickey; they are available to answer any questions if you are visiting or new to the church. Poppies of Remembrance are available in the narthex entrance and are provided by the Royal Canadian Legion. Donations may be given in support of the Legion s work within our communities, and in particular to support the children/families of veterans who gave of their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today! Special thanks to Sean Colwell, trumpeter for his music ministry. We appreciate his presence with us given that this is a very busy season for him. Also to Sandy Russell for his participation in our worship service, to all those that participated in the Remembrance portion of the service this morning and to Michaela Chiste for her gift of music. The flowers in the Sanctuary this morning are in honour of all Veterans. Those that have given their lives, the men and women who gave service to our country and also those that are presently serving to keep our country safe. God Bless you all! The sympathy of the congregation is extended to the Vos and Vukson families and friends. Nicholas Vukson passed away on Tuesday, November 6 th. Nick was a leading telegraphist in the Royal Canadian Navy in the North Atlantic doing convoy duty during WWII. There will be a visitation at Dennis Toll Funeral Home this afternoon; from 2 5 p.m., 55 Charing Cross St. Funeral will be in Ingersoll at 11 a.m. on Monday at McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home, 246 Thames St. S., Ingersoll. The General Convenors of the Bazaar would like to thank everyone for all their time and talents put into yesterday s Bazaar which made it such an amazing success. Please join us for the Post Bazaar Sale in the Church hall during coffee time this morning. **Please note change of date of Post Bazaar meeting** - Reminder to All Bazaar Convenors and table helpers: meeting on Wednesday, November 14th at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and share your input to help make next year s Bazaar a success! 5 The Bells of Peace - Bells call us to wake, to pray, to work, to arms, to feast and in times of crisis, to come together. On November 11, 1918, the ringing of church bells erupted spontaneously across the country as an outpouring of relief that four years of war had come to an end. The Bells of Peace initiative is designed to emulate that moment of remembrance in honour of our veterans who served in WW1. Today; November 11 th, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended WWI. Tonight at sundown we have a few volunteers that will be coming to the church to participate in tolling the bell at the church known as The Ringing of the Bells of Peace. A few other churches in the city with working bells will be participating as well. Commitment cards thank you to those who returned their commitment cards; This helps the Board of Managers to set the budget for Commitment cards can be still be sent in and left on the offering plate or left/mailed to the office for Carolyn. Preparing the Way an Advent Bible Study - 4 weeks, Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. beginning November 27 th Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn t come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more! (Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas) Please join us for a discussion of the stories of Advent as presented in the Lectionary readings designated for the 4 Sundays of Advent. Study guides for each session will be available in the narthex on the previous Sunday. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be held on Sunday, December 2nd during 10:00 a.m. worship. This is a special day in the life of the church. The prayer of the Session is everyone at the Table of the Lord. Toonies for the Blessing Centre please bring your toonies (on December 2nd) that go to support Central s suppers at the Blessing Centre. If you are donating bills or other coins please put them in an envelope and mark it clearly for the Blessing Centre. Your donation will be credited to your annual givings if you include your envelope number or name. Christmas Vendor s Fair - Saturday, December 1st, 10 a.m. 2 p.m. How can you help? - Take a poster to hang up at your place of business/apartment - Donate a raffle table item - Volunteer to help the day of the vendor s fair December 2nd is the first Sunday in Advent, which marks the first Sunday in four Sundays of deep spiritual reflection, with increasing anticipation and hope, all culminating to Christmas Eve where we celebrate Emanuel; God with us! Please join us on our journey every Sunday to share in the promises and joy of this church season. Donations for this year's Christmas Floral display will begin on November 18th. Debbie will be in the Narthex before the service and in the hall during coffee time. The list will be printed on Sunday, December 16 th. The people shall stream to it, and many nations shall come and say: Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and shall arbitrate between strong nations far away; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; but they shall all sit under their own vines and their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. For all the peoples walk, each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. In that day, says the Lord, I will assemble the lame, and gather those who have been driven away, and those whom I have afflicted. The lame I will make the remnant, and those who were cast off, a strong nation; and the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion now and forevermore.
