Forgiveness Bridge Pastoral Foundation, formerly the Clinical Theology Association, is holding its Annual Conference at the Hayes Conference Centre Swanwick, from July 26th to 30 th We should be most grateful if you could bring the attached details to the attention of anyone you know who might be interested in attending. The conference is entitled Forgiveness. The sessions with our speakers will look at the theme of forgiveness from various perspectives, from theological to psychological to sociological. The conference would be of interest to those involved in pastoral care, the training of ministers or pastoral visitors, to those being prepared for ministry, or to anyone working at the meeting of theology and psychology. Julie Nicholson resigned from ordained ministry following the death of her daughter in the 7/7 London bombings and now works creatively with people on issues of life, death, fall and redemption, love and betrayal. Fr Edmund Power will consider issues of reconciliation, and address weakness and strength in spiritual growth. There will also be workshops, social occasions, daily worship, and groups for personal growth. 5 CODEC at St John s Durham You may have heard of the new research centre CODEC, which is exploring the interfaces between the Christian Faith (especially the Bible), the digital environment and contemporary culture ( The institute developed out of the former Centre for Christian Communication, involvement with the Churches Media Council and the media work of one of St John's Visiting Fellows, Rev Brian Brown. CODEC has three centres focussing on different aspects of Communication in the Digital Environment: Preaching and Communication, Biblical Literacy and Communication and Theological Engagement. In its first couple of years, the centre has been able to assemble resources in biblical literacy, the media, preaching and the emerging digital culture, and are currently engaged in a wide range of research projects in these areas. CODEC is now is a position to share resources and research with those training to be Christian communicators and leaders. We have therefore planned our first training course: MediaLit, open to all those training for Christian leadership and those engaged in Christian ministry, which will run from 21st to 25th June We think this innovative course will enhance your own training provision in this area and give valuable access to this subject areas for those courses and colleges who may not have yet have this provision. The Medialit course was designed as a Mission Study Block for Cranmer Hall in Durham with the intensive teaching week followed by placement opportunities. However, we are keen to offer the intensive teaching week to people outside of Cranmer, in order to put together a mixed group of students and those already engaged in ministry. We believe that the course offers a unique perspective on Christian engagement with the media at a truly competitive price. The cost is 150 per delegate which includes lunches, evening meals, refreshments and a resource pack, but does not include accommodation and breakfasts. We would also be happy to discuss opportunities for placement by individual request but we are aware that this aspect of the course may be best delivered in your own local context. Places allocated to Cranmer students filled up within a week of being offered. As such, we are sure that the places assigned to non-cranmer people will fill up very quickly but if you have interested students then please ask them to complete a booking form and register a place with our administrator whose contact details can be found below. When the course is full, we will put together a waiting list and review when we can next run the programme. For further information on the course, please contact either the Revd Dr Pete Phillips (p.m.phillips@durham.ac.uk) or the Revd David Goodhew (d.j.goodhew@durham.ac.uk) (A copy of the brochure and booking form can be opbtained from Colin). Leading Your Church Into Growth conferences. This is the best of its kind, staffed by a wide range of experienced clerical and lay practitioners. Nearly 1 in 110 ordained Anglican ministers have now attended this course it is that good! Topics include: Evangelism in a post-modern culture, Becoming a positive leader, Understanding our context and mission field, Becoming a Mission church, Sharing practical mission event ideas, developing a culture of invitation and welcome, Creating a church community.
