Home Cell Margo Peebles The Annual Christmas R.A.P. Party Come party with us! There will be games, crafts and prizes for the kids. The guardians will relax in a different area and be able to enjoy a couple of hours of visiting, cookie sharing, some door prizes and refreshments. Guardians will also pick up the kids Christmas stockings at this event. For All Relatives As Parents And Their Children When: December 12, 2010 Where: Time: Coeur d Alene Library 702 Front Street Cd A, Idaho 1:00 to 3:00 pm You do not have to be a member of R.A.P. to come to the Christmas Party. If you are raising a relative child, other than your own, grab the kids and come join the fun! Cookie Share Bring 3 dozen of your familyʼs favorite Christmas cookie to share at the party. Each family will get a plate and can fill it with different delicious cookies to take home. (This is optional.) Relatives As Parents Group Meeting Date Change Beginning in January of 2011 the Relatives As Parents Group will meet on the second Thursday of the month. We will still meet at the Jewett House located at 1501 E. Lakeshore Drive in Coeur d Alene. We will serve a light lunch and offer child care on the premise for no cost. The first meeting of the year will be on January 13th and it will be a presentation by a guest speaker on all type of drugs and their abuse. Mark your calendars now, because you won t want to miss this important presentation. Come enjoy the friendly atmosphere with a view of Coeur d Alene Lake. Everyone is welcome!

Newsletter Kin-Care Support Group Tis the Season for Christmas Tree Permits Mission is to: Build healthy families by promoting broadbased community collaboration and coordination to combine resources to reduce substance abuse, increase literacy, and to reduce the duplication of services. Kootenai County Kin-Care Committee c/o KACF 610 W. Hubbard, Ste.123 Mission of Kootenai County Kin-Care Committee is to: Advance Community Support for a Safe and Nurturing Environment for Children Raised by Relatives. The RAP/GAP Mascot is the turtle. The turtle, like us and our children, has a hard shell to protect it from getting hurt, but the inside is soft, vulnerable and loveable. We must learn to stick our heads out of our shell and take a chance. Christmas tree permits are now available from the Forest service & Bureau of Land Management. Here s what you need to know about the tree permits(tags): * Christmas tree tags are $5 each * A family may purchase up to three tags. * Christmas tree tags can be used to cut trees on: National Forest lands in Northern Idaho & Montana. The Bureau of Land Management lands administers the Coeur d Alene District Office. The Coeur d Alene River Ranger District offers a permit by mail system. I have attached a tree tag form so that you can fill it out and and mail it in for a Christmas tree tag. Be prepared for cold weather and snow! Dress warmly, carry extra food and hot drinks and always let someone know your travel plans including the destination and expected time of arrival back home. Start your tree hunting early in the day while there is plenty of daylight. Be sure to carry tire chains as most backcountry roads are not plowed. Cell phone coverage is limited in many of these areas. Select your tree from thickets or overstocked areas. Leave isolated trees and single growing trees. Do not cut large trees just to get the top! Cut the stem off below the lowest live limb or 8 inches above the ground, whichever is ever lower. Make this a Christmas family tradition and let the kids help pick out the perfect Christmas tree. Cheap Things to do This Holiday Season * Eagle Watching -The Idaho Department of Fish & Game and the U.S. Forest Service Panhandle National Forest provide spotting scopes and information at Mineral Ridge Boat launch and Trailhead in Beauty Bay * Go Sledding at Cherry Hill * Build a Snowman with friends and family. * Make homemade garland from dried fruit and popcorn for your tree or mantle. * Art Walk is every second Friday of the month from 5-8 pm throughout downtown Coeur d Alene. * Music Walk in downtown Coeur d Alene is every 4th Friday of the month 5-8 pm January - April. * Go Ice Skating * Go Ice Fishing all of our lowland lakes have some sort of ice fishing opportunities. * Movie Marathon at home with popcorn and friends is a good way to spend a cold afternoon. * Build a Snow Ball Fort and have a snowball war with neighborhood friends. * Read a Good Book and Listen to Music. * Volunteer at a Senior Citizen Home or a Soup Kitchen.

We re told at this juncture the tree was adorned with apples, foil, colored paper, and sweets. Not everyone approved of such displays. The tree remained part of the German holiday culture and slowly began to expand, with lights being added in the 17th century. A Christmas tree may not be an original Christian tradition, but the tree s meaning for Christians is something that has developed over the generations. The evergreen became a symbol of the eternal life offered by Jesus. The lights on the tree is God s light and life s spirit. The star at the top retells the story of the star of Bethlehem. Other modern Christian meanings of the Christmas tree include: Triangle Shape: Symbolizes the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Evergreen color: Symbolizes everlasting life. Red ornaments or ribbons: Jesus sacrifice Bells: ringing out of glad tidings (the good news ) Bows: the ties that bind people together. Candy cane: Shepard s crook (to gather the lost lambs) Wreaths: God s eternal love Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Crispy Parmesan Chickpeas/Peas on Earth These savory and salty chickpeas pack 3. Spread the chickpeas on a rimmed a delicious crunch - with protein and fiber baking sheet and roast, tossing twice, to boot! (by Womanʼs Day Kitchen) until dried and very crisp, 50 to 60 Recipe Ingredients minutes. Let cool completely on a 2 cans (15 oz) chickpeas baking sheet. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 4. Wash out chickpea cans and soak off 1 Tbsp. olive oil the label. Throughly dry the cans. 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 5. Fill cans with dried flavored chickpeas 1/2 tsp. salt and cover the top of the cans with wax 1/4 tsp. ground pepper paper and tie with a ribbon. pinch of cayenne (optional) 6. Take a plain stick on label and write Recipe Preparation Peas on Earth and stick on the can. 1. Rinse the chickpeas under water, spread them out on a paper towel and let dry for 15 minutes. Pat the chickpeas dry with additional paper towels; discard any loose skins. 2. Meanwhile, heat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl, whisk together Parmesan, oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and cayenne, if using. Add chickpeas and toss to coat.
