Th e Br e we r Fa m ily Names of family members and kids ages: Dan, Rachel Stephen (19), Emiliana (17), Timothy (15), Lydia (13), Benedict (11), LilyMarie (8) Home: Inver Grove Heights Parish: St. Joseph, West St. Paul Occupations: Director of Administration, NET Ministries (Dan) When and why you came to CCR: Dan got involved around 1985 through his parents involvement. Rachel, who is Teresa Demarais sister, was exposed to SPO while at St. Ben s. We both sunk roots of relationship, and delighted in God s obvious movement within CCR/SPO/NET. Small group: Thooft Where you are in CCR formation: Dan-- covenant since 1989, Rachel-- covenant in 1998, 2 years after we married. Dan, you will be ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese on Dec. 9. Why did you and Rachel decide to enter the diaconate? The call was a curveball for us, I knew next to nothing about it. One day Joe Michalak (Diaconate Director) was at NET and I asked him a few questions and from there the desire and the call grew rapidly. It reminds me of the trajectory of our courtship. Rachel had many questions but has been supportive and very generous. How has your formation impacted your family and how do you think it will after ordination? There is not enough space to sing the praises of formation. In a word, it was rich, though not without challenges. A recent call to orders letter from the Archbishop expresses the hope that the Brewer family will be blessed as we seek to integrate and fulfill the demands of Holy Orders and Matrimony. Many deacons speak of Jesus bringing a new Cana wine to their marriage and family. If I do my part and listen to Him, I am confident he will make it all work. Has CCR played a role in your formation? Thanks to CCR, I came to formation tooled up in some key areas, most notably in prayer and in having supportive relationships. I like to look at my vocation as not simply my own, but CCR s. Do you know yet how you will serve as a deacon? No, I m jumping out of the plane, and I don t know where the parachute will take me! I intend to stay connected to CCR.

4 SERVICE REMINDER Every Member, as part of their commitment to CCR, is asked to signup for two slots on each Event Service Sign-Up (this past one was sent in August.) This is apart from your Primary Service (Pastoral Worker, Music Ministry, etc) and is required for our events to run smoothly. If you have yet to sign up for your two events please use this Sign Up Genius link and sign up for two events to serve at. Here s the link to the job descriptions: Client care nurse-rn (Full time but might consider job share) Development and office assistant (Full time) Education outreach coordinator/lifeedge Solutions (.5FTE or so to start) This is for a male educator counterpart to our female educator Moms' Meeting: The Special Moms meet to offer a listening ear to one another, to carry the load of parenting with each other. Sometimes we laugh and sometimes we cry. All moms are welcome; most come because of any type of special situation that increases the stress of caring for their children. Upcoming meetings are Wednesday, November 15 and Wednesday, December 13-7:00-8:30 at the NET Center. Question?
