In addition, that same weekend, we will also host the Youth Lock-In for the diocese at All Saints which means we ll need volunteers to provide snacks for our younger guests! Sign up sheets for all of these areas are located in the Parish Hall lobby. For more information, please call Vicky Vance or David Sparks, Council Co-Chairs. We d like to thank Tom Robinson and Robinson & Associates for sharing their time and talents to design our Annual Council logo, The Challenge of Mission. We d also like to thank Buddy Vance and J.E. 3 THE PASTOR S PAGE Kickoff Celebration Update - About 140 parishioners gathered in the Parish Hall on All Saints Day evening to enjoy a festive time with our parish family, to reflect on our life together and hear about campaign progress. Decorated in a harvest theme courtesy of Virginia Chambers and Carol Alvis, the Parish Hall was the perfect venue for the occasion, and Romie s catering served up a winner for all attendees with delightful fare and plenty of libation to go around. Following personal reflections by Deanna Alford and Albert White, Lloyd Gray highlighted our needs to meet an increased operating budget and service our building loan. Advance Gifts Chair David Sparks reported $929,320 had already been pledged to the campaign from 34 families and individuals! He stated our challenge as seeing how far beyond our need of $1,250,000 we can go. Campaign Chair Cathy Fitzpatrick asked that members pray, volunteer and participate by giving sacrificially to All Saints. Master of Ceremonies Wayne Slocum kept the evening rolling with his Cajun humor. Expanded coverage of the Kickoff Celebration will be included in the next Campaign Newsletter, arriving soon at a mailbox near you! Upcoming Events - A Day of Prayer, centering on stewardship and the effort currently underway at All Saints, is slated for Saturday, November 14 and a Commissioning Sunday is set for the following day. Campaign volunteers will be recognized and commissioned at each worship service. Pictured above are the family and godparents of the 9 children who were baptized on All Saints Day, November 1. Congratulations to (in alphabetical order): Alexander Crowe, Bradley Crowe, Connor Crowe, Walsh Driskell, Wiley Reddick, Indiana Sistrunk, Austin Strickland, James Strickland and Ronald Strickland.
4 PARISH MINISTRIES We hope to collect a ton of food (literally) which will be delivered to a local charity the weekend before Thanksgiving. Please bring canned goods or nonperishable food items to the Parish Hall Lobby on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights. November 4 & 11 Sonny Mason will offer a presentation on creating sacred space November 18 A Ton of Food for a Hungry Community Campaign concludes. Please bring nonperishable food items or canned goods to the Parish Hall Lobby. Children s Choir for 3 year olds 3 rd grade. Youth Handbell Choir 4 th grade & up A nursery is provided for younger children ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES 136 boxes were distributed in October! PLACE YOUR ORDER SATURDAY, November 7 10:00 a.m. Noon or you can place your order online at: DISTRIBUTION DAY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 9:00 10:30 a.m. We need volunteers to help take orders (2 Saturdays per month) and to help with distribution (one Saturday per month). A sign up sheet is located in the back of the church. A nursery will be made available to those volunteers that call ahead to either Mandy Atkins or Kasey McFate.
5 PARISH MINISTRIES SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14 All Saints Day of Prayer In the Chapel Saturday, November 14, has been designated as All Saints Day of Prayer for the long range vision, mission and future of the church, as well as our stewardship and capital campaigns. Meditation materials will be provided or you may bring your own. We have openings available from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. We d like to have at least 2 people per time slot. Sign up sheets are available in the church on Sundays and in the office during the week. I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to GIVE. I am afraid the only safe rule is to GIVE more than we can spare. C.S. Lewis We appreciate all of our volunteers who are stepping up to help with this ministry. We really depend on YOU for donations of food items such as sugar, coffee, creamer, fruit, and Sunny D juice. Thank you, people of All Saints, for your continued support of this ministry. Please remember Saints Brew for your monetary gifts, memorials and honorariums. The next ECW meeting will be TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17 at 5:15 p.m. in the Parish Hall. All women of the church are encouraged to attend.
6 CHRISTIAN FORMATION We are continuing to move toward our goal of opening a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level III atrium in January, 2010 for our children ages As there are still many materials to be made for this level, we have scheduled a work session in the Level III atrium for Sunday, November 8 at 4:00 p.m. You don t have to be a master craftsman or artist to help! Even if you think you don t have any skills to offer, we have jobs that anyone can help with! Kamme Riddle and Mary Howard King will have all the needed materials along with detailed materials descriptions, so please join us in this effort. The Faith Club: a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew Three women search for Understanding by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner. The women voice opinions and thoughts that we all have or are exposed to, but would never consider safe to speak about in so doing they demonstrate that it is precisely in speaking the unspeakable with an attitude of humility and listening in an undefended posture that a way forward can be found. The Rt. Rev. Catherine S. Roskam, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Gift of Kaye Cannon. (Shelved 201.5/Idl) Thanks to our Vestry and the savvy shopping skills of Mary Howard King, the EYC room is now home to a wonderful, homey set of comfortable furniture. This project has been in the works since the building construction s completion, and we re so grateful to have such a wonderful space to be together. Thank you All Saints! The EYC will be taking its annual fall outreach trip November This year, we ll be traveling to Sewanee, TN for a weekend in God s beautiful creation. We re especially excited because we ve never taken a trip of this kind before as a group, and we hope that the beauty surrounding us and the physical challenges we meet on the Mountain will bring us closer than ever before to God and each other. We ll be hosted by the Fire on the Mountain EYC group there and will get the opportunity to do some hiking, rappelling, and spelunking! The deadline for commitment to this trip (by turning in permission slips) is Wednesday, November 11. Forms will be distributed in the mail, and can also be found on the EYC webpage. Ann Marie Schott, Sr. EYC Director
