3 Dear Parishioners, From: Father Joseph s Desk As Fall is in the air and school is in full force and harvest is around the corner, we continue to thank God for the many blessings He has given us. St. Joseph's is home to 1,174 parishioners who are registered and home to those who attend our parish but are not registered. All are welcome at St. Joseph's! DMF is a topic that is not easy to talk about, but has to be addressed. As of today, only 234 parishioners have contributed to the DMF out of 1,174 registered parishioners. I am requesting that those parishioners who have not contributed to DMF 2018 to please do so. If we do not fulfill our goal of $ 88,572.00, we will have to take this out of our budget. As of today, $ 52, has been pledged. Please contribute if you have not done so. I am asking those who have not yet contributed, to contribute $50.00 or $ dollars to the DMF. It is all of our responsibility to support the greater Church in the Diocese of Pueblo. May God continue to bless you all and your families. 6 RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults will begin Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10 am. We invite anyone who is interested in learning about the Catholic Church to join us to have your questions answered. Any baptized or un-baptized person is invited. If you are a Catholic who has not completed receiving the three sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and/or Confirmation, you are invited to join us. If you are not a Catholic, but want to know about the Catholic Church, you are invited to join us. If you want to help the people coming into the Catholic Church, you are invited to join us as a team member, or, as a sponsor, or, as a guest. LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today s readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don t always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God s promptings will lead us in the right way. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
