1 Set up according to Konnie s service sheet on the bulletin board. It lists number of chalices, patens, wafers needed, etc. according to service. It is a moving target; Sacristans-In-Charge, keep in touch with Brooks about this. BEFORE 1. The keys should be in the towel cupboard. Unlock the priest s sacristy. Leave the keys in towel cupboard 2. Inner sacristy a. Make sure mikes are at full power: i. If at full power, turn off and put back on press. ii. If not at full power, remove batteries and replace with fresh batteries. iii. Discard old batteries in usher s closet. iv. Note: Never ever wind, kink, or otherwise bend wires! b. Provide vesting assistance as required. c. Keep interlopers out of Dean s closet. 3. Wafers-Wheat a. A total of 590 Individual Wheat Wafers will be needed. This total includes the consecrated wafers that are in the Ciborium. The Priest s Host is not a part of this calculation. b. Count the # of Reserved Consecrated Wafers, in the Ciborium. Make a note of it. Replace the Ciborium on the corporal in the outer Sacristy. Calculate the # of Individual Unconsecrated Wheat Wafers that will be needed: 590 total - # Reserved= # Individual Unconsecrated Wheat Wafers c. 2 4. Outer sacristy a. Lay out 1 corporal for reserved sacrament. Lay a small funnel nearby. b. Place reserved sacrament on the corporal. Count the wafers in the Ciborium and leave a note with the count by the Ciborium. c. Leave by the piscina: Half bottle of wine Small silver bowl with two bags of 50 wafers Small silver bowl with baggie of 10 GF wafers d. Leave outer sacristy outer door closed but unlocked. e. Leave empty wine bottle in cupboard for unconsecrated leftovers. f. Leave ablution pitcher and hot water kettle full of water. g. Fill carafe with water and leave it on the counter. 5. Oblation Table a. Table cloth. b. After ushers come on duty, cross flagon filled to neck. c. Standing paten with Priest s Host and wafers d. Cover elements with veil. 6. Sanctuary a. Place the Resurrection Icon, torches and Pascal Candle where directed by Brooks s customary. b. Set out missal pillow, placed in center of altar. c. Set out 1 cup of water in the pulpit. Set out 3 cups of water in the celebrant s desk. d. Put sharp pencil and the brass bookstand on the celebrant s desk. e. Find out from a verger if Lee Teed and/or Jack Lindquist will be present. If they will be, put their cushions where they ll be sitting. Lee-purple cushion with the lamb. Jack-stack of 2 velvets, usually kept on the frontal cabinet. If you see Joan Ford, put the flat purple pillow on her seat. f. Check furniture placement to ensure proper setup for celebrant, preacher, assisting clergy, acolytes, and verger. 3 g. Place bulletins in each seat (above). Leave the insert in the Dean s bulletin to be used for announcements. Remove inserts from the rest, and place them on the press. h. 4 7. Credence Table a. Table cloth. b. 13 chalices (or more, according to Konnie s Service Sheet). Dress the knobby one with the cross on the base. c. 6 flat patens, two large silver, two pewter, medium one from Chapel, gold-lined one (or more, according to Konnie s Service Sheet). d. Scalloped silver dish, napkin, and spoon on napkin. e. Tall cruets filled with wine and water to the top of the cross. f. Lavabo bowl. g. 2 lavabo towels. h. 2 extra purificators. i. Plastic tray for stoppers. j. GF set-up? k. Healing stock, tissue and plastic tray? l. Silver missal stand. m. Verger s prayer book. n. Bar towel for wiping up drips at the altar. o. Place reserved sacrament on Credence Table after candles are lit. Place a note with the number in the Ciborium by the Ciborium. p. If there is a bowl of overflow wafers, place a note with the number by them. DURING THE SERVICE 8. Two Sacristans should go to the Priest s Sacristy during the Peace and lay out the Bishop s Chasuble on the Press, front down, with the bottom half of the back folded up. When the Bishop comes back in a hurry, he will hand off his cope to Sacristan #1. He will flip the chasuble on by himself. Sacristan #2 will then help him straighten whatever needs to be straightened. Sacristan #1 will lay the cope over a chair so that the Bishop can put it back on again after the service. 5 AFTER 9. Outer sacristy a. Record number of attendees (posted by the ushers at the back) on service sheet. b. Record number of communicants on service sheet. Calculate the number using information including: Number of reserved wafers before and after mass Number of wafers put out If used, the number of wafers that were put on the counter in case of emergency that got consecrated Priest host serves 24 *Optional: add the number of GF wafers used to the total. It s not really necessary because we get close enough without it. b. Consume leftover consecrated GF in the pyx. Do not save any GF. d. Consume consecrated priest s host. e. If there are more consecrated wafers than can fit comfortably in the ciborium (overflow wafers), ask Brooks if he wants them for the next service. If he does, put them in a small silver bowl, veiled, and leave it on the corporal. If he does not, bury them. f. If there is more consecrated wine than will fit in the two small cut glass cruets, ask Brooks if he wants it for the next service. If he does, put it in a flagon as directed. If not, pour it down the piscina. g. If there are lots of crumbs in a corporal, shake it in the garden to remove all crumbs. If you don t see any, shake over piscina. NOTE: Acolytes may place crumbs on the side of the piscina for the Altar Guild to take to the garden. h. Launder linens, take them home or leave them abluted in the sacristy. i. 6 10. Sanctuary and Pulpit a. Dispose of water cups. b. Return 1 cordless mic to top of press. Return the rest to the slotted tray on the sideboard. c. Put away the missal pillow, silver bookstand and gospel book. d. Examine floor around the altar and altar rail for sacrament. Consume it or bury it in the garden. 11. Inner sacristy a. Tidy books on press. Do not discard any notes. b. Hang up Dean s vestments. c. Put away all vessels and unused linens. 12. Lock-up a. Double-check the Sanctuary for any items left out. b.
