Change can be positive and we have derived many benefits from advances in fields such as medicine, computer technology, entertainment, transportation, energy etc. As a result we live today in a modern world with greater longevity and benefits than did our ancestors. Unfortunately accompanying this progress, we have also endured an erosion of civility, social values, morality, and religion. Today most of our media promotes a culture that says that convenience, pleasure and resolving issues expeditiously regardless of consequences is good. This is goes hand-in-hand with a What s in it for me philosophy that today dominates our culture. Topping it all What s the least I can do has become an attitude that has taken root in education, the workplace and even in religious practice. Our recent elections have shown that a large segment of our population favors intrinsic evils such as abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, same sex marriage, etc. More disturbing is that many Catholics support some of these initiatives. So, it s no surprise that our churches are no longer filled to capacity and a large segment of the population questions the need for God in their lives. But, it is not the first time our 2000 year old Church has faced such adversity and dealt with it. Do remember His words. upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew practicing Catholics we realize we can no longer be passive and must take a stand on these issues and attitudes. The question of how we go about doing this is the essence of this rally. Pope Benedict XVI has called for a New Evangelization with the purpose of stemming this antireligious tide. Our own bishop Gerald Barbarito, host of this day will address this subject of reevangelization and its need to this large gathering of Catholic men. We will also hear from the Reverend Jose Alfaro, Vice Rector of the St Vincent DePaul Regional Seminary. Rev Alfaro will be joined by many of his seminarians. He will speak to their role as future leaders in our church. This is also an opportunity for us to meet them and demonstrate our support of their vocation. The New Evangelization will not be an overnight effort, but a lengthy undertaking to return stray Catholics to the Church. If we are to have any measure of success, we as practicing Catholics must participate in that initiative. At this rally we will be guided by Curtis Martin the President and founder of FOCUS, (Fellowship of Catholic Students), one of the fastest growing movements in the Catholic Church. Curtis holds a Master s degree in theology and is the author of the best-selling book Made for More. He co-hosts the new ground-breaking show on EWTN, Crossing the Goal. Michaelann were awarded the Benemerenti Medal by Pope John Paul II for their outstanding service to the Church. They live in Colorado and have been blessed by God with eight children. Curtis Martin recently was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as a consultant to the Synod of Bishops recently held in Rome. The purpose of this synod was to define and begin the implementation of the New Evangelization of the Catholic Church. In the course of our rally Curtis will make two presentations. The first is entitled Made for more. It says that if you find your true purpose in life, you'll discover that you really are "made for more" than what our culture has to offer. Martin s second talk is entitled Win, Build, Send which defines what evangelization is about. s. Essentially it addresses what we can do personally to encourage others to revisit their lost or declining faith. That day you will join over 1,000 Catholic men in praying the rosary. Throughout the morning over 25 priests will be available to hear confession. Our rally will culminate with Bishop Barbarito celebrating the Mass assisted by the participating clergy. We urge you to participate as there will be no better way for you to spend a Saturday morning for the rest of the year. You will find attending beneficial and importantly bring meaning to the enticement of the Eucharistic prayer: Do this in memory of Me.

8 Bulletin Announcements 1 Place these Bulletin Announcements in your weekly bulletin or newsletter and on your website or Facebook page to keep participants informed about how their participation in CRS Rice Bowl is making a difference in the lives of the poor. Bulletin Announcements can also help you remind participants when to pick up and return their Rice Bowls. Sunday before Ash Wednesday You re invited to participate in CRS Rice Bowl! Our parish will be participating in CRS Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services Lenten program, as a way to encounter Jesus through others, especially through the most vulnerable in our world. Rice Bowls will be available on [DATE]. Please be sure to take one home and use the easy and fun resources to deepen your family s Lenten experience. Your prayers, fasting and almsgiving this Lenten season will help Catholic Relief Services continue to provide life-saving assistance in nearly 100 countries. CRS works on our behalf to care for the poorest in our world and to end global poverty. First Week of Lent Growing Food in Burkina Faso In the small West African nation of Burkina Faso, 80% of the population are farmers. Frequent droughts make it difficult to produce enough food for the entire year. Often, farmers can only grow enough to feed their families for seven months. The rest of the year is called the hungry season. This week, we pray for families in Burkina Faso and give to CRS Rice Bowl to help small-scale farmers. Second Week of Lent Getting Healthy in East Timor CRS Rice Bowl invites us to learn about East Timor this week, where tuberculosis is a major health crisis. CRS works in communities where access to medical care is limited. This week, we pray for families in East Timor and give to CRS Rice Bowl to help people who are struggling with illness. Third Week of Lent Helping Children in Lesotho This week we focus our prayers, fasting and almsgiving on Lesotho, where many children lack access to quality education. Only 73% of primary school-age children in Lesotho are enrolled in school. Give to your Rice Bowl this week to support communities working with CRS to provide educational opportunities for children. Fourth Week of Lent Fostering Community Banking in the Dominican Republic CRS Rice Bowl invites us to learn about the Dominican Republic this week, where CRS helps women form savings and lending communities that help them save money and access small loans for new businesses. Pray for these women who have the courage to start their own businesses, and make a contribution to your Rice Bowl to support people working to provide a better livelihood for their families. Fifth Week of Lent Drinking Clean Water in Pakistan This week we focus our prayers, fasting and almsgiving on Pakistan, where poor communities often do not have access to clean water. CRS helps communities build water pumps so they can have clean water nearby for use at home and on their farms. This week, consider fasting from all beverages except for water, and donate what you saved to your Rice Bowl Catholic Relief Services. All Rights Reserved. US12132 CRS Rice Bowl.org
