1 Introduction Trinity Website Re-design Project WordPress Primer Version 9 Trinity s re-designed website employs WordPress as its content management system. Trinity people who enter content at the website will need to understand three frequently-used WordPress formats: PAGEs; POSTs; WIDGETs. The website employs PAGE and POST templates that facilitate content input and maintain a uniform website look. PAGEs (PAGE Templates 01 06) Typically used for more static information. Content doesn't change that often, does not typically require regular updating Content is entered directly in template. Header, footer and layout are determined by which PAGE Template is selected. POSTs (POST Templates 01, 02) Typically used for more dynamic information. Content changes relatively frequently; is regularly updated, added, replaced; prior content can be archived for recall. Content is entered directly in template. POST content automatically populates (i.e., inserts content into) three PAGE templates (01, 02, 06). Header, footer and layout are determined by which POST template is selected. WIDGETs (No templates. Formatting built into type of WIDGET selected for use) Content amplifies given PAGE or POST content. WIDGETs typically add How / What / When / Where / Who information that Trinity wants visible at many windows of its website. 1 Usually placed in Sidebar area a column at right (or sometimes, left) of a visible window. PAGE WIDGETs appear on PAGE Templates 04, 06 same content each time PAGE WIDGET appears. POST WIDGETs appear on POST Template 01 same content each time POST WIDGET appears. PAGE WIDGET content and POST WIDGET content can be different from each other. 1 For example, answer website visitor questions like: How do I contact church office? What s going on this week? When are your services? Where are you located? 1

5 Template Overviews The following compilation presents information about six PAGE and two POST templates. Each template overview: presents the template name; provides a picture of a typical example; describes the template structure;, and, offers examples of how the template might be used to display Trinity s current website content. Trinity s template names are suggestive of layout. Each template name is structured to fit within the WordPress 36-character-and-space count naming limitation. WIDGETs used on Trinity s website derive from default WIDGETs supplied by WordPress as well as others selected from 3 rd party sources. Formatting is pre-determined based on the specific type of WIDGET selected. In effect, each WIDGET is its own template. Thus there is no finite set of templates that need be understood and chosen among for using on Trinity s website. 5
6 Default PAGE 01 Wide Col., Sidebar Chapel on the Green Helping bring Good News to people who haven t had any in a long time. In the summer of 2008, Trinity on the Green partnered with community agencies and clergy from other churches to launch Chapel on the Green. This outdoor service began on All Saints Sunday in November of It is based on the Common Cathedral in Boston. Every Sunday at 2:00 pm people gather on the Upper Green (directly behind Trinity) for a brief (25-30 minute) service of Holy Eucharist in all sorts of weather. We do not cancel services due to weather. Communion We use grape juice to stand in solidarity with those who do not drink alcohol. We believe this is God's table and all are welcome to receive Coummunion. ALL are welcome! This service has attracted a wide variety of people across New Haven: those interested in social justice, the homeless, or anyone that does not feel comfortable in a church building. Join our drum circle before the service at 1:30 pm. Following the service, we distribute bagged lunches to all those in need. Below is a brief description of each service we offer. Try out each service a few times and see which one speaks to you most. Sunday Services 7:45 am Holy Eucharist This is our most contemplative service. Each Sunday, we offer Holy Eucharist in our side chapel and use the traditional language of Rite One. The sermon is shorter than the 9:00 and 11:00 services. There is no music except for a final hymn. 9:00 am Family Eucharist While this service is geared toward families with younger children, all are welcome and usually feel at home.this relaxed service features a children s message as well as a sermon. We use the contemporary language of Rite Two. The children all gather around the altar during the words of the Eucharist and help bless the Bread and the Wine. The music for the service also tends to be more contemporary and eclectic. 11:00 am Holy Eucharist or Morning Prayer This is our most traditional service we offer at Trinity. Either the Choir of Men and Boys, Choir of Men and Girls or the Trinity Singers help lead the traditional music of either Morning Prayer or Holy Eucharist. We use the traditional language of Rite One, and the priest celebrates the Eucharist from the high altar. 5:00 pm Evensong (usually offered once per month Sept - May) Since the late middle ages, "evensong" has been the popular name for vespers (from the Latin vesperis, "evening"), the Evening Office of the western church. Occasionally one of the Trinity Choirs will sing evensong. This beautiful choral service uses the traditional language of Rite One. Wednesday Service 12:10 pm Holy Eucharist and Healing Service Each week we offer a brief service of Holy Eucharist, followed by a service of anointing for healing. Sacramental oil is used as an outward sign of God s active presence for healing in body, mind or spirit SEARCH Calendar Events Children at Worship Children of all ages are welcome at all our services. The 9:00 am service is geared towards including children as a part of the service. Children are invited to sit in the frst few pews, so they can see what is going on in the service. At our 11:00 am service we offer a Children s Chapel. Children join a member of the clergy and other adults downstairs in the undercroft for a special service geared for preschool through ffth grade. Nursery Care at the 9:00 and 11:00 services professional nursery care for infants through age 3 at the 9:00 and 11:00 services.
