2 F R. G R E G P A F F E L S N O T E! My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?. ~ Psalm 22:2 ~ These are some of the powerful words Jesus cried out as he endured the Cross for love of us! He was reciting the words from a scripture he undoubtedly prayed many times. In fact, Psalm 22 is an amazing prayer that begins with what looks like despair. But in fact, Jesus is digging deep into his inmost being to find hope in the one, true, and living God. For those with keen observation, the psalm ends with great hope. The final verse is a glorious prophecy, The generation to come will be told of the Lord, that they may proclaim to a people yet unborn the deliverance you have brought. (Psalm 22:31) We are the people who were yet unborn. We are the ones that have received deliverance from sin and eternal death. That is why we still proclaim the death of our Lord, especially on Good Friday when we venerate the Cross, but also at every Mass when we say one of three things after the consecration of the Eucharist: We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again. "When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again. Save us, Savior of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free. One way we can continue to proclaim the death of our Lord in our daily lives is by reciting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I would really like everyone in our parishes to get to know this meaningful devotion. To help foster that goal, I am inviting everyone to pray the Divine Mercy Novena. The pamphlet will be available at all 3 parishes: St. Alexius, Our Lady of the Angels, and St. Paul s Church. It will be prayed after Good Friday services at St. Paul s Church and will continue to be said before St. Paul s Mass through Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8. Special prayers accompany the blanket and can be given to those who are suffer from an illness or even for those celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage. Today! St. Paul s Church Penance service, Sunday, March 25 at 4:00pm. There will be extra Priests available to hear confessions. The Divine Mercy Novena begins Good Friday. It will be prayed after the St. Paul s Church 12:00 Noon & 3:00 p.m. Service. Then it will be prayed in place of the Rosary at St. Paul s Church. 6 H O L Y F A M I L Y S C H O O L N E W S Scrip -There will be no special Scrip order placed this week due to Holy Week and the shortened school week. HFS students will be attending morning Mass this coming Tuesday. Please continue to save box tops and Country Hearth bread labels, etc. for Holy Family School. Your help with these labels and programs have helped us purchase much needed equipment and supplies for our classrooms and computer lab. Students have school on Monday and Tuesday of this coming week. Students entering Kindergarten this coming year and possibly interested in attending HFS are invited to HFS preschool testing/screening on Tuesday morning, April 3rd. Students should be dropped off at 8:00 a.m. that morning, and parents are asked to return at 10:30 a.m. to go over results with the teachers. Students and parents are encouraged to remain for lunch so the children can experience going through the lunch line and eating at school. The last PAC Mtg. of this year is this coming Monday night at 5 p.m.. This will be the closing meeting and social gathering for the members. Annual Paschal Meal, our symbolic Seder Service, with a full meal to follow. It will be held on Wednesday, March 28th at 6:30pm in Our Lady of the Angels Church basement. Places are set by reservation only- for reservations call , there is no charge, however free will offerings are greatly appreciated! The Symbolic meal offered during the service is just a small taste of the Paschal Meal our Lord himself grew up eating and participating in, and what He ultimately shared with his disciples. Which question did Christ read as a child, has your child possibly read the same one that Jesus did over 2000 years ago? Come and enjoy a meal like the one Mary helped prepare every year in preparation of this joyous festival. This meal is for everyone! Bring your children, suggested ages 5 and up. Senior Parents There is a one hour planning meeting for the Mass for our graduating seniors on Monday, March 26 at 7 pm at the Youth Center. Elementary Faith Formation: All First Communicants and a parent must complete the final interview before receiving their First Holy Communion. Interviews will be 20 minutes long starting April 16-April 19 from 3pm-7pm at various locations. Teens We are looking for teens to help serve the Seder meal on Wed. March 28 at 6pm. This is a great way to give back to our community for all the greatness God has given each of us.
