This letter is intended to be printed in bulletins for June 1 & 2 with the special collection on June 8 & 9. The USCCB is calling for a second Fortnight for Freedom to take place June 21 July 4. There is some general information in this set of announcements but coming soon will be a more detailed package. Keep looking for it. Natural Family Planning Week will be celebrated in the diocese July 21 July 27. In this month s announcements there is information as well as PDF that can be inserted into the bulletin. 2 We would appreciate if you could publish the first four announcements below with the red heading (**PLEASE PUBLISH AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE IN BULLETINS AND PARISH WEBSITES**) as often as possible. **The information below is for use in your parish bulletin. More detailed information and instructions were sent by Father Brian to pastors in his May 2013 Liturgical Newsletter sent out last week. Please see your pastor if you need further information** Holy Father Calls for Hour of Eucharistic Adoration in June On Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 5.p.m. (Central European Time) the Holy Father will preside at an hour of Eucharistic Adoration in St Peter s Basilica in the Vatican, in communion with all Bishops and with their local diocesan communities around the world. The universal scope of this moment is to be a gesture of spiritual sharing. For this reason it is asked that all Bishops join with the Holy Father by celebrating in their own cathedrals an hour of Eucharistic Adoration, synchronized with the Vatican Basilica. It is asked that this initiative be extended to as many parishes and ecclesial realities as deemed appropriate by the Ordinary. As Rome (CET) is currently six hours ahead of Southeast Florida (EST) that means the Holy Hour would take place at 11am in the Diocese of Palm Beach. Bishop Barbarito realizes that the vast majority of parishes in the Diocese have a regularly scheduled morning Mass around 11a.m. Thus, to maintain the spiritual union desired by the Pontifical Council on the New Evangelization, a special emphasis should be given to the Mass taking place in parishes around 11 a.m. on June 2, 2013, (Corpus Christi). If your parish schedule is free at 11a.m., you are encouraged to hold a special Holy Hour at that time to be united in prayer with Pope Francis. (**PLEASE PUBLISH AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE IN BULLETINS AND PARISH WEBSITES**) EDITORS: THE BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENT BELOW MUST BE PLACED IN YOUR PARISH BULLETIN REGULARLY AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH) Protecting God s Children The Catholic Diocese of Palm Beach is committed to the safety and protection of all children and vulnerable adults in its care. The first Fortnight took place during the same dates last year as an effort to educate the public about religious liberty, both at home and abroad. In 2013, we face many challenges to religious liberty, including the August 1, 2013, deadline for religious organizations to comply with the U.S. Health and Human Services mandate; potential Supreme Court rulings that could redefine marriage in June, causing serious religious liberty issues for Catholic adoption agencies and many others; and religious liberty concerns in other areas, such as immigration and humanitarian services. 8 Prayer to Avert Hurricanes The Most Reverend Gerald M. Bishop is asking all parishes and schools in the diocese to join him a united prayer effort in thanksgiving for the past several calm hurricane seasons and for our protection from devastating storms in the upcoming 2013 season. Below is a prayer to avert storms that you and your families can use throughout the hurricane season. Thank you for your support of our prayer effort to ask God to keep us safe from hurricanes in this upcoming season. (SUGGESTED PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM STORMS) God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and Patroness of our Diocese, pray for us. ******************************************************** Oración para pedir protección contra las tormentas Dios Padre nuestro, Creador del Universo y Señor de toda la creación, humildemente nos presentamos a ti, como hijos tuyos, en acción de gracias por tu amoroso cuidado y protección. 10 We must never tire of clarifying misunderstanding and shedding light where there is myth and confusion, demonstrating empathy and compassion and a deeper vision. Our task is to present the truth with civility, empathy and clarity. Being champions of the Gospel of Life is about building a civilization of love. ~ Cardinal Seán Patrick O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston, homily at the Opening Mass for the 2013 National Prayer Vigil for Life, January 24, 2013 As for those who work in the medical profession, they ought to neglect no means of making all their skill available to the sick and dying; but they should also remember how much more necessary it is to provide them with the comfort of boundless kindness and heartfelt charity. Such service to people is also service to Christ the Lord, who said: As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me (Mt. 25:40) ~ The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Declaration on Euthanasia, May 5, 1980 All men, by their inherent paternal nature, are called to be fathers in a certain sense, if not in the flesh, then in the spirit by a pure and fruitful love that helps in the formation and growth of others as children of God. As with women, men find their dignity not in occupational pursuits, much less in the acquisition and exercise of power, but by virtue of loving relationship with others. ~ Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, Saint Joseph and the Vocation of the Pope and All Men to Fatherhood, Seek First the Kingdom: A Blog by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, March 19th, 2013 The most fundamental human freedom is that of practicing one s faith openly, which for human beings is their reason for living. ~ Blessed Pope John Paul II, Address to Diplomatic Corps, January 13, 1996 It is imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church s public moral witness. The seriousness of these threats needs to be clearly appreciated at every level of ecclesial life. Of particular concern are certain attempts being made to limit that most cherished of American freedoms, the freedom of religion. ~Pope Benedict XVI, Address to the Bishops of United States of America on their Ad Limina Visit, January 19, 2012 Copyright 2013, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, DC.

~ Beato Juan Pablo II, Discurso al cuerpo diplomático, 13 de enero de 1996 United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, 2013 Related fliers are posted in this month s PDF file for Bulletin Announcements.
