2 Page 2 - Pastoral Message First Sunday of Advent Advent Wreath: The Advent wreath, which has German origins, is probably the most recognized Advent custom. It is a wreath made of evergreens that is bound to a circle of wire. It symbolizes the many years from Adam to Christ in which the world awaited its Redeemer; it also represents the years that we have awaited His second and final coming. The wreath holds four equally spaced candles, the three purple ones lit on the peniten al Sundays and a pink one for Gaudete, the joyful third Sunday in Advent. Help us to be Jesus in the world. LEGION OF MARY Bible Study Every Thursday, 10-11am Please join us for Bible Study in the Educa on Building every Thursday. First Sunday of Advent L.I.G.H.T.: Have you ever felt alone or in the darkness? If you ever felt that way you know how much it would have meant to have someone available to pray with. We at St. Jerome are trying to organize a ministry of prayer to be available to pray with people for whatever it is that burdens them. They are the True Reformers that allowed themselves to be used by God to Renew and Reform His church in the midst of the confusion of the Protestant Reforma on 500 years ago. On five successive Mondays, which began on November 20th at 9:30am and again at 7:00pm we will get to know these Saints and through them discover how powerful and beau ful is the human heart s free response to the generous grace of God. 8 Page 8 - Devo ons / Ministries of Mercy & Stewardship of Sharing First Sunday of Advent You are welcome to join us for Morning Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours Monday through Friday at 8:40 am. The Mother of Perpetual Help Novena is held every Saturday at 8:45 am. Lifeline is con nually in need of the following nonperishable food items which can be le in the LIFELINE bins in the church: -boxed macaroni and cheese -pasta/spaghe -boxed mashed potatoes -pasta sauce -beef stew -canned fruit -hearty canned soups -canned tuna -canned pork and beans -rice (2 lb. bag) -peanut bu er and grape jelly -cereal -canned vegetables (corn, beans, carrots, tomatoes) Thank you for your generosity! Do you need food? In addi on to every Wednesday 8:30am 11:30am, St. Jerome LifeLine food pantry will be open on the last Saturday of each month for you or someone you know who needs food assistance. For more informa on, contact Nancy Selak The Homeless Ministry gathers in the Parish Center on Mondays at 1:30pm to prepare food to be taken to Pinellas Hope for the Homeless of our county. Currently we have approximately 40 volunteers who assemble 160 PB & J sandwiches, 240 deviled eggs, 2 trays of stuffing, 2 trays of veggies and 4 trays of a main course. Unsold bread and pastries are picked up and sorted for distribu on. Many pounds of clothing and bedding are also donated. Our group of 12 leaves the Parish Center at 6:15pm. Thanks to the generosity of St. Jerome parishioners, we are able to feed approximately 200 homeless at Pinellas Hope each week.
