I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, Why have you not built Me a house of cedar? Now, therefore, thus you shall say to My servant David, Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. And I will appoint a place for My people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your

4 body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. EPISTLE Galatians 4: 1-7 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the Law, to redeem those who were under the Law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father! So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a Sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed. And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eightyfour. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of Him to all who were waiting for the Redemption of Jerusalem. And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And the Child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. 6 RECEIVING THE SACRAMENT AT TRINITY Trinity Lutheran Church, according to our Lord s Word, practices closed communion. We kindly ask any visitor to speak with one of our Pastors before partaking of the Lord s Supper. According to the Words of Institution we believe the Supper to be a participation in the very body and blood of Jesus. The Pastors have been entrusted with these gifts as stewards of the mysteries to serve this meal carefully. We believe that it is a communion in all we believe, teach, and confess as Lutherans. We want to serve this meal to you faithfully and for you to understand our beliefs before you commune. Every communicant should mark an attendance card before approaching the Lord s Table. Margaret McDonald In connection with Thrivent Financial Trinity is hosting a breakfast reception on

8 Epiphany morning. The purpose is to rejoice in the visit of the Wise men and the outpouring of the Gospel to all the world and to secure funds for families at need who will be cared for by nurturing newborns. Recently Nurturing newborns has been helping a family whose child quits breathing when he sleeps. Also they have been referred to a first time father whose wife died in childbirth. Many of these families receive care through grants and donations. Trinity hopes to better support Nurturing Newborns in the coming year through a variety of Thrivent member grants and other opportunities.
