And he took him from her arms and carried him up into the upper chamber where he lodged, and laid him on his own bed. 5 RECEIVING THE SACRAMENT AT TRINITY Trinity Lutheran Church, according to our Lord s Word, practices closed communion. We kindly ask any visitor to speak with one of our Pastors before partaking of the Lord s Supper. According to the Words of Institution we believe the Supper to be a participation in the very body and blood of Jesus. The Pastors have been entrusted with these gifts as stewards of the mysteries to serve this meal carefully. We believe that it is a communion in all we believe, teach, and confess as Lutherans. We want to serve this meal to you faithfully and for you to understand our beliefs before you commune. Every communicant should mark an attendance card before approaching the Lord s Table. 6 A spaghetti meal will be served following Sunday school TODAY. A free will offering will be received to support a suicide walk that Dawn Clevenger, Jessica, and Heather Mallorey are participating in. The offering will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Are you in high school and Lutheran? Then this is for you! Come join us for the first ever Denver Lutheran Youth (DLY) event. This group was created by a group of high school students with the hope to meet other Lutherans in the area through planned social gatherings several times a year. The organ music today (as it always does) reflects the theme of the day; for The 16 th Sunday after Trinity the theme of the readings, hymnody, and preaching is: The Faithful Christian s Comfort in Death and Hope of Resurrection. Thus, the Prelude is based off of the Hymn of the Day, The Will of God Is Always Best. The music during the offering is based off of a hymn we sang in our Bible class on the Funeral service, When My Last Hour Is Close at Hand. Some may remember our Adult Choir singing a setting of this hymn a few years ago. The Postlude is based on a hymn of repentance and hope, All Men Living Are but Mortal; it is set to the same tune as Christ, the Life of All the Living. The Adult Choir will sing some stanzas of this hymn (though with its historic tune, not the one used here by J. S. Bach) on All Saints. 7 The Will of God Is Always Best (LSB 758) Albrecht von Preussen was the first ruler to establish Lutheranism as the official religion of his realm. He was convinced of the Gospel by Martin Luther during a visit to Lutheranism. His hymn is a contemplation on the 3rd Petition of the Lord s Prayer, Thy will be done. We confess in Luther s Small Catechism, God s will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature and when he strengthens and keeps us firm in His word and faith until we die. This is His good and gracious will. Death is the ultimate question concerning God s will. Is it God s will that we die? We know that the wages of sin is death, but we also know that God does not desire the death of a sinner, but that he turns from his evil way and live. It was God s will to send His Son Jesus to taste death for us everyone (Heb. 2:9). And it is this Son, who is our Brother, who raised the widow of Nain s son. It is only through Christ that we can say, Thy will be done, because He Himself fulfilled God s will for us in His own body through death and resurrection.
