SEASON OF LENT MASS SCHEDULE & EVENTS SOLEMNITY OF ST. JOSEPH, SPOUSE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: This year March 19 is the Third Sunday of Lent; therefore, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be celebrated on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the 9am and 7pm mass. ADDITIONAL MASS FOR LENT In addition to our weekday 9:00am mass, there will be a 7:00pm mass (Monday through Friday) during the season of Lent. CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES RICE BOWL One way Catholics can enhance their Lenten fasting practice is by giving up meals and donating the cost of those meals to Catholic Relief Services in order to help those who do not have enough to eat. Please pick up your Rice Bowl in the back of church and please return it at the end of Lent and no later than the first week of Easter. ALL DAY EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT During the Lenten season the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on Fridays (March 24 th March 31 st, and April 7 th ) from the conclusion of the 9:00AM Mass to 7:00PM, followed by Benediction. PLEASE SET ASIDE ONE HOUR TO SPEND WITH JESUS on each Friday during Lent. In addition to our prayers for an increase in vocations, we would like to remind you to continue to pray for our own priests who minister to us daily at St. Therese, our Pastor Fr. Mendes, Fr. Michél and Fr. Smith There will be sign up sheet in the back of the church to choose an hour time slot. Remember someone must be there every hour. Followed by the Station of the Cross at 7:30PM. 4 4 THEME FOR THE LENTEN RETREATS IS : The Word Is A Gift. Other Persons are a Gift ENGLISH LENTEN MISSION will be held from Monday, April 3 rd through Wednesday, April 5 th. Praise and worship begins at 6:30pm followed by service at 7:00pm. Guest speaker will be Fr. Alonzo Cox. CREOLE LENTEN MISSION will be held from Thursday, April 6 th through Saturday, April 8 th. Youth Sunday is an effort to encourage and develop in young people a growing awareness of their value and importance in the life of the church, especially in Liturgy. They can be active participants in the liturgy, as altar servers, ushers, lectors and choir members. Parishioners are encouraged to request the regular Mass for their intentions. There is no special Mass offered outside of the regular parish Mass. 6 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL Diocese of Brooklyn! Annual Catholic Appeal 2017 Live in Faith Give in Love We are encouraged in a special way in this 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal to help our brothers and sisters in our Diocese who directly benefit from our generosity, as we live in Faith and Give in Love. Our Parish Goal: $54,704.00! All funds collected over goal are returned to St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. THANK YOU! The Haitian Fellowship would like to thank all who participated in our Valentine s Day party and show. Our special thanks to the performers and to those who helped by cooking and setting up the Auditorium. Because of your generosity, we were able to donate $ 5, to our church. We look forward to seeing you again at this event next year. RUNNING OF THE SILVER ROSE To reaffirm the work for peace, harmony, healing and an end to the senseless violence and to promote respect for life all life - the parish of St. Therese of Lisieux in collaboration with the Knights of Columbus will host the visit of the Silver Rose of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas on May 13th at the 5 pm Mass and May 14th at the 11 am Mass. 7 7 VIRTUS TRAINING The Diocese requires that Ministry Leaders and Ministry members be Virtus-trained. If you do not complete this training by May, 2017, you will have to step down from your ministry until it s completed. What is Virtus? VIRTUS is a program created by the National Catholic Risk Retention Group in the United States with a "Protecting God's Children" component that combats sexual abuse of children in the Church. It is currently in use in over 80 dioceses in the United States. MERCY IN MOTION Lent is the season for us to renew our connection to God. We can achieve a closer relationship with him by reading the Bible, listening to his words and increasing our practice of 1) the corporal works of mercy - feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick and the imprisoned, and bury the dead; and 2) practice the spiritual works of mercy: counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish the sinner, comfort the sorrowful, forgive injuries, bear wrongs patiently and pray for the living and dead. This Lent why not put your faith in action by loving your neighbor in your own back yard and on the other side of the globe by exercising the Catholic Social Teaching of Preferential Option for the Poor by: 1) Giving to the parish s pantry 2) Start going through your closet and prepare to donate to the Spring Clothing Drive April 23rd 3) Fast and make a gift of the funds to Catholic Relief Services via the CRS Lenten Rice Bowls 4) 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) PRAISE DANCE MINISTRY Meets every Sunday from 2:00PM- 5:00PM in the school Auditorium.
