1 General Information Baptism: By appointment. At least one parent as well as the sponsors must be practicing Roman Catholics who attend the Traditional Latin Mass exclusively. Confession: Before Mass on Sundays, and other times as indicated in the weekly bulletin. Confirmation: Solemnly administered periodically in the year and may be administered privately by request. Catholics who received confirmation in the post Vatican II rite (1971) should arrange to receive confirmation conditionally in the traditional rite. First Holy Communion: Administered each year on the Sunday after Corpus Christi. Adequate knowledge of the catechism in required. Matrimony: If you are contemplating marriage, please make an appointment to speak with a priest before you set a date. At least one of the parties must be a practicing traditional Catholic and member of this parish. Weddings are forbidden during Advent and Lent. Communion for the Sick: Please contact the pastor or coordinator when a church member is hospitalized or too ill to attend Mass. Extreme Unction: Do not put off making arrangements until the last moment, but contact the pastor or coordinator promptly if a church member is gravely ill or in danger of death. Decorum in Church: Respect for God in the Blessed Sacrament requires a reverent silence. Please turn off cell phones and keep children well behaved. Both young and old should wear dignified and modest clothes in church, and women should wear a dress or skirt, and a veil or hat. Veils are available in the vestibule. Singing: The faithful are invited to join in singing any hymns preceding or following the Mass, but only the choir sings during the course of the Mass. 3 Mary and the Muslims The World s First Love, by Bp. Fulton J. Sheen Mary, then, is for the Muslims the true Sayyida, or Lady. The only possible serious rival to her in their creed would be Fatima, the daughter of Mohammed himself. But after the death of Fatima, Mohammed wrote: Thou shalt be the most blessed of all the women in Paradise, after Mary. In a variant of the text, Fatima is made to say: I surpass all the women, except Mary. This brings us to our second point, namely, why the Blessed Mother, in this twentieth century, should have revealed herself in the insignificant little village of Fatima, so that to all future generations she would be known as Our Lady of Fatima. Since nothing ever happens out of Heaven except with a finesse of all details, I believe that the Blessed Virgin chose to be known as Our Lady of Fatima as a pledge and a sign of hope to the Muslim people and as an assurance that they, who show her so much respect, will one day accept her Divine Son, too. Evidence to support these views is found in the historical fact that the Muslims occupied Portugal for centuries. At the time when they were finally driven out, the last Muslim chief had a beautiful daughter by the name of Fatima. A Catholic boy fell in love with her, and for him she not only stayed behind when the Muslims left but even embraced the Faith. The young husband was so much in love with her that he changed the name of the town where he lived to Fatima. Thus, the very place where Our Lady appeared in 1917 bears an historical connection to Fatima the daughter of Mohammed. The final evidence of the relationship of the village of Fatima to the Muslims is the enthusiastic reception that the Muslims in Africa and India and elsewhere gave to the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima, as mentioned earlier. Muslims attended the church services in honor of Our Lady; they allowed religious processions and even prayers before their mosques; and in Mozambique the Muslims, who were unconverted, began to be Christian as soon as the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was erected. Missionaries in the future will, more and more, see that their apostolate among the Muslims will be successful in the measure that they preach Our Lady of Fatima. Mary is the advent of Christ, bringing Christ to the people before Christ Himself is born. In any apologetic endeavor, it is always best to start with that which people already accept. Because the Muslims have a devotion to Mary, our missionaries should be satisfied merely to expand and to develop that devotion, with the full realization that Our Blessed Lady will carry the Muslims the rest of the way to her Divine Son. She is forever a traitor in the sense that she will not accept any devotion for herself, but will always bring anyone who is devoted to her to her Divine Son. As those who lose devotion to her lose belief in the Divinity of Christ, so those who intensify devotion to her gradually acquire that belief. Many of our great missionaries in Africa have already broken down the bitter hatred and prejudices of the Muslims against the Christians through their acts of charity, their schools and hospitals. It now remains to use another approach, namely, that of taking the forty-first chapter of the Koran and showing them that it was taken out of the Gospel of Luke, that Mary could not be, even in their own eyes, the most blessed of all the women of Heaven if she had not also borne One Who was the Savior of the world. If Judith and Esther of the Old Testament were prefigures of Mary, then it may very well be that Fatima herself was a postfigure of Mary! The Muslims should be prepared to acknowledge that, if Fatima must give way in honor to the Blessed Mother, it is because she is different from all the other mothers of the world and that without Christ she would be nothing.

4 St. John Vianney on the Angels Ah! if we had the eyes of angels with which to see our Lord Jesus Christ present on the Altar and looking at us, how we should love Him! The first thing about the angels that we ought to imitate, is their consciousness of the Presence of God. Our Guardian Angels are our most faithful friends, because they are with us day and night, always and everywhere. We ought often to invoke them. The Angels take great pleasure in helping us with our enterprises, when they are in accordance with God s will. If you find it impossible to pray, hide behind your good Angel and charge him to pray in your stead. We ought to ask the Blessed Virgin, the angels, and the saints to pray for us that we may receive the good God as worthily as it is possible for us to receive Him. (Sermon on Holy Communion) There is not a single creature which does not provide us with the means of reaching God. If any of them become an obstacle, it is only by our misuse of them. The devil writes down our sins our Guardian Angel all our merits. Labor that the Guardian Angel s book may be full, and the devil s empty. If you invoke the Blessed Virgin when you are tempted, she will come at once to your help, and Satan will leave you. Do not try to please everybody. Try to please God, the angels, and the saints they are your public. With what humility should we assist at Mass, if we realized that our Guardian Angel was kneeling beside us, prostrate before the majesty of God! With what eagerness should we not ask him to offer our prayers to Jesus Christ! A Note from Father Dear Faithful, Last Sunday was a wonderful induction ceremony for the members of the Rosary Confraternity. Rosary Sunday and the first day of the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary were welcomed in by a Rosary procession and the welcoming in of fifty-one new members to the confraternity, which will be a great source of graces and indulgences for their promise of dedication to Our Lady. Speaking of devotion to Our Lady s Rosary, I really hope that as many of you as possible will be able to make it to church this upcoming Friday for our last of the Rosary Processions in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. Last month, we had a rather disappointing attendance and were not even able to do a procession. However, this is not only the last opportunity for the great annual tradition, but it is also the 100 th anniversary of the last apparition of Our Lady at Fatima and the Miracle of the Sun, which was witnessed by 100,000 people who had come to pray with the three children. I don t expect 100,000 to come to our little procession, but I would like it if YOU were able to take a little time out of your schedule to honor Our Lady on this most important anniversary, by coming for the candlelight procession. I had a good mission trip up to the northern lands. The cooler weather has returned up there and the colors are really starting to pop out on the trees up near the top of our country. While the scenic views of autumn make the drive more enjoyable (all 2,000+ miles of it), the real joy comes in being able to bring the sacraments to the faithful in these places and to see their perseverance and progression in the practice of our wonderful Faith. We had a baptism of a baby in Grand Forks (the second in as many trips): A little boy, who became the newest member of the Mystical Body of Christ. I also did the blessing of expectant mothers in Powers Lake so the missions happily continue to grow. With my prayers and blessings,
