2 Squad Liturgists must pass the Squad Prayer Leader certification first. The requirements for this certification being easy to fulfil, all squad liturgist must work on at least a second liturgical certification (Sacristan, Cantor or Acolyte) immediately afterwards. 1. INDEX: 1. REGULAR CERTIFICATIONS. - Requirements common to all liturgy related certifications. - Squad Prayer Leader. - Sacristan. - Cantor. - Acolyte. 2. MAJOR CERTIFICATION. - Evangelist. (2) EXAMPLES OF CHARITABLE CHALLENGES: You have taken care of an elderly, sick, or handicapped person during a time agreed upon with your CO. You have been active in a charitable social event like a regular food drive, organized visits to the sick or to hospitals, slum cleaning and improvement drive You have done at least 10 days of pilgrimage in a social team (1 st Aid team, children care, elderly care ). EXAMPLES OF MISSIONARY CHALLENGES: Under the supervision of a priest, you have prepared a youth to his Baptism, Confirmation and First communion. You are one of the head MCs in your parish liturgical team. You have taught Catechism in your parish during a time decided by your CO and your parish priest. You have set up and led an operation Change of Heart in your community (school, village, district ) : cheating, purity, joy, daily Mass You have helped some boys to start a Free Standing Squad. (11)

3 2. MAJOR CERTIFICATION: EVANGELIST 1. REGULAR CERTIFICATIONS. 1. You have obtained the CCA Squad Prayer Leader certification. 2. You have obtained a CCA Liturgical certification of your choice amongst the following ones: Sacristan, Cantor, Acolyte. 3. You have obtained the CCA Catechist certification. 4. You have chosen a priest as your Spiritual Father and meet with him regularly to deepen your spiritual life. 5. You have taken up and fulfilled 2 challenges (on top of those required to obtained other certifications): one charitable challenge and one missionary challenge: (10) REQUIREMENTS COMMON TO ALL LITURGY RELATED CERTIFICATIONS. 1. You know the seasons that make up the Liturgical Year, as well as the main feast days of the year (all Days of Obligation, 1 st Class feasts, as well as all the feasts of the Apostles and some 2 nd class feasts of Our Lady). 2. You know the 5 liturgical colors, what they symbolize, and when to use them. 3. You know the parts of the Mass in detail, in order to be able to follow the Mass, serve it or sing properly. 4. You know the name of all the sacred vestments used at Mass. 5. You know prayers to be recited when putting on the cassock and the surplice, and you always recite them when vesting. 6. You know how to answer at Mass by heart. (3)

4 SQUAD PRAYER LEADER S CERTIFICATION. NB. You must first fulfil requirements 1 to 6, common to all Liturgy related certifications (page 2). 7. You are capable of leading regular prayers in your squad: Morning & evening prayers, Graces (Latin & English), Angelus/Regina Cæli (Latin & English, recited & sung), Rosary You have led all these prayers in your squad several times. 8. You know by heart the 15 decades, with their fruits; and you know which days of the week the Joyous, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries are to be recited. 9. You have made up a very short meditation for each of the 15 decades (2 to 5 lines each meditation); you have led the meditation of the Rosary with these short meditations you have prepared (one Joyful Rosary, one sorrowful rosary and one glorious Rosary, on three different days, to avoid overtiring your squad). 10.You have prepared a meditation to read during a Vigil of Promise, either about The Law and the Principles in general, a Principle in particular, an article of the Law in particular, the nature of the Cadet Promise, or any other topic related to the ceremony of Promise. (4) ACOLYTE CERTIFICATION. NB. You must first fulfil requirements 1 to 6 common to all Liturgy related certifications (pages 2 and 3). 7. You know how to serve a Low Mass and a Sung Mass in all positions. 8. You know how to serve a solemn High Mass in all positions: with regard the MC positions, this requirement may be considered as fulfilled if you have started learning the Solemn High Mass MC position. 9. You have taught several persons how to serve Mass in several positions. 10. You know the symbolism of the altar, the candles, incense, and two other sacred items of your choice. 11. You have explained to your squad or to other people the meaning of the Mass and its main parts. 12. You belong to the Saint Stephen s Guild (if it has a chapter in your parish). (9)

5 CANTOR CERTIFICATION. NB. You must first fulfil requirements 1 to 6, common to all Liturgy related certifications (pages 2 and 3). 7. You have some notions of music. 8. You know Gregorian Chant properly; you can sing an unknown piece from the Liber without too much difficulty. 9. You know how to use a microphone. 10. You are capable of singing the most common Gregorian Commons, that is, at least 5 kyrialia (amongst 1, 2, 8, 9, 11, 17, 18, Requiem), 2 Credos (Credo 1,3), and 1 Asperges. 11. You have intoned the hymns and Gregorian melodies, and led the congregation, during at least 10 Cadet Masses, to the satisfaction of the Padre. 11.You have written down in your notebook the names and feast days of the Patron Saints of (1) our Cadet Corps (St John de Brébœuf), (2) your Platoon, (3) your Squad, (4) your squad mates, (5) the US (the Immaculate Conception), (6) your Diocese, (7) your traditional parish, (8) any other patron Saint you wish to remember. And you make sure that the patron Saints of our Corps, your platoon, your squad and your squad mates are remembered by all your squad mates and celebrated as a squad (Mass together, or dinner ). 12.You have a good Missal (SSPX missal or St Andrew Missal); you know how to use it and do use it every time you attend Mass (except when you serve it of course). 12. You have made up your own folder with hymns and some Gregorian melodies, for Mass, Benediction, Morning and evening and other Cadet prayer-times You use this folder to prepare ceremonies and prayers in your squad/platoon. 13. You have studied several of the most famous psalms. (8) (5)

6 SACRISTAN S CERTIFICATION. NB. You must first fulfil requirements 1 to 6, common to all Liturgy related certifications (page 2). 7. You know how to prepare everything for Holy Mass (Low Mass, Sung Mass and Solemn High Mass): sacred vestments, chalice and ciborium, credence table, altar 8. You know in which order to light/put out the altar candles. 9. You know the parts of an Altar Missal, and are capable of preparing it for both Low & Sung Masses (you even know which preface to choose: read, ferial, solemnis, or solemnior) 10. You have prepared everything for Mass for most of a Summer Camp, or at least 10 times during cadet trips. 11. You know how to prepare the sacristy and the sanctuary for Benediction. You have actually done it properly at least 5 times. 12. You have acquired the habit of always washing your hands before touching anything in the sacristy or the sanctuary. 13. You know which sacred vessels and linen you are not allowed to touch without gloves, and you know why. 14. You have seen the Mass kit used in your platoon, and you have used it properly at least 5 times (packed & unpacked it, re-supplied it with little and big hosts, wine & water, washed the linen and replaced them with fresh ones ). 15. You have washed and ironed the linen (altar clothes, purificator, pall, corporal, amice and finger towel) at least twice. Before washing purificators, palls and corporals, you made sure that a Priest, Deacon or Sub deacon purified them first! 16. You have performed sacristy duties in your parish several times for an important ceremony (solemn High Mass, Corpus Christi Procession, Good Friday ). 17. You have explained how to prepare Mass to one fellow Cadet. (6) (7)
