7 Epistle Acts 9:32-42 (Sunday of the Paralytic) Sing praises to our God, sing praises Clap your hands, all you nations The Reading is from the Acts of the Apostles In those days, as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints that lived at Lydda There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years and was paralyzed And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed" And immediatley he rose And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord Now there was a Joppa disciple named Tabitha, which means Dorcas She was full of good works and acts of charity In those days she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him entreating him, "Please come to us without delay" So Peter rose and went with them And when he had come, they took him to the upper room All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them But Peter put them all outside and knelt down and prayed; then turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, rise" And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up And he gave her his hand and lifted her up Then calling the saints and widows he presented her alive And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord Gospel John 5:1-15 (Sunday of the Paralytic) At that time: Jesus went up to Jerusalem Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethzatha, which has five porticoes In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed waiting for the moving of the water; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water; whoever stepped in first after the troubling of the water was healed of whatever disease he had One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?' The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me" Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet, and walk" And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked Now that day was the sabbath So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet" But he answered them, 'The man who healed me said to me, "Take up your pallet, and walk'" They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, "Take up your pallet, and walk'?" Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you" The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him

9 Cell phone vs Bible Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it? What if we gave it to kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency? This is something to make you gohmmwhere is my Bible? Oh, and one more thing Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities? And no dropped calls!

10 The Story of Mother's Day During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday" which was celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent During this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy As most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at the houses of their employers On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return home and spend the day with their mothers A special cake, called the mothering cake, was often brought along to provide a festive touch As Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor the Mother Church Over time the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday celebration People began honoring their mothers as well as the church In the United States Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic) as a day dedicated to peace Ms Howe would hold organized Mother's Day meetings in Boston, Mass ever year In 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day Ms Jarvis persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of May By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia Ms Jarvis and her supporters began to write to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day It was successful as by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May While many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother's Day at different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May
