1 St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church Sunday of the Forefathers The Sunday that falls between December is known as the Sunday of the Holy Forefathers. These are the ancestors of Christ according to the flesh, who lived before the Law and under the Law, especially the Patriarch Abraham, to whom God said, "In thy seed shall all of the nations of the earth be blessed" (Gen. 12:3, 22:18). 5 Epistle (For the Holy Forefathers) Blessed art Thou, O Lord, the God of our Fathers. For Thou art just in all that Thou hast done for us. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Colossians. (3:4-11) Brethren, when Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these, the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all. THE GOSPEL Luke 14:16-24 (11th Sunday of Luke) The Reading of the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke Then Jesus said to him, Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. At the time for the dinner he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, Come; for everything is ready now. But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I must go out and see it; please accept my regrets. Another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please accept my regrets. Another said, I have just been married, and therefore I cannot come. So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. And the slave said, Sir, what you ordered has been done, and there is still room. Then the master said to the slave, Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner. الرCسال?ة Colossians 3:4-11 (29th Sunday after Pentecost) 4 مSتSى أ Z ظQهOرS الQمSسOيحZ حSيSاتZنSا فSحOينSئOذl تZظQهSرZونS أSنQتZمQ أSيQض_ا مSعSهZ فOي الQمSجQ دO. 5 فSأSمOيتZوا أSعQضS اءSكZمZ ال تOي عSلSى الSرQ ض : O الزÜنSا الن جSاسSةS الQهSوSى الش هQوSةS الر دOي ةS الط مSعS ال ذOي هZوS عOبSادSة الSوQ ثSانO 6 ال Z مZورS ال تOي مOنQ أSجQ لOهSا يSأ Q تOي غSضS بZ اO عSلSى أSبQنSاءO الQمSعQصO يSةO 7 ال ذOينS بSيQنSهZمQ أSنQتZمQ أSيQض_ ا سSلSكQتZمQ قSبQل_ حO ينS كZنQتZمQ تSعOيشZونS فOيهSا. 8 وSأSم ا النS فSاطQرSحZوا عSنQكZمQ أSنQتZمQ أSيQض_ ا الQكZل : الQغSضS بS الس خSطS الQخZبQثS الت جQ دOيفS الQكSلSمS الQقSبOيحS مOنQ أSفQوS اهOكZم. 9 لS تSكQذOبZوا بSعQضZ كZمQ عSلSى بSعQض l إOذQ خSلSعQتZمZ الOنQسSانS الQعSتOيقS مSعS أSعQمSالOهO 10 وS لSبOسQ تZم الQجSدOي دS ال ذOي يSتSجS د دZ لOلQمSعQرOفSةO حSسSبS صZ ورSةO خS الOقOهO 11 حSيQثZ لSيQسS يZونSانOيÆ وSيSهZودOيÆ خOتSان وSغZرQ لSة بSرQ بSرOي سOكÜيثOيÆ عSبQد حZرÆ بSلO الQمSسOيحZ الQكZل وSفOي الQكZل.

7 Santa Claus & St. Nicholas (0ne opinion) The American version of St. Nicholas, or Santa Claus originally came from the Dutch version called Sint Klaas. The Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam (New York) brought this fun and lively tradition (some even say cult) to America. This version of Santa has given the current myth its visual form and these most curious traditions: A merry old man with red and white clothes Eight flying reindeer, later joined by Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. A home located on or near the North Pole The habit of filling socks or stockings with presents on the night of December 24 th. Also the habit of entering houses through the chimney. The most important single source for our modern day version of Santa Claus comes from the Christmas poem A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore. Written for his children in 1823, the family poem was later published for the general public and included what became the now famous picture of Santa Claus. was the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. way to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

8 Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all! s dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. e was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; he stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; e spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, here he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

10 Twinkies and Root Beer A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of Root Beer and he started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an elderly man. The man was sitting in the park just feeding some pigeons. The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie. The man gratefully accepted it and smiled at boy. His smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root beer. Again, the man smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the man, and gave him a hug. The man gave him his biggest smile ever. When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy? "He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? God's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!" Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked," Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before his son responded, he added," You know, he's much younger than I expected." Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother. Mark 3:35
